Thank you for your participation in the Upstate Spartans Golf Classic. Your valued support has allowed our student-athletes to excel both in the classroom and on the fields, courts and courses. Here is just a sampling of the success your support helped provide in 2014-15: •Upstate placed a school record 149 student athletes on the A-Sun All-Academic Team. •Four Spartans were named A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year in their respective sports: Mario Blessing (men’s basketball), Rachel Reiling (women’s golf), Marvin Schmiege (men’s soccer) and Lexi Shubert (softball). •The South Carolina General Assembly recognized men’s basketball player Ty Greene for winning the Lou Henson Award as the best mid-major player in the country. •The softball team won the A-Sun regular season and tournament championships, giving the program four conference titles in three years. •The softball team made its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, playing in the Tuscaloosa Regional hosted by Alabama. •Men’s golfer Ryan Cornfield earned an individual berth into the NCAA Championship and finished tied for 23rd at the Chapel Hill Regional. •Spartans Ty Greene (men’s basketball) and Marvin Schmiege (men’s soccer) were named A-Sun Player of the Year in their respective sports. •The softball team swept the major individual postseason awards with Shellie Robinson as the Player of the Year, Lexi Shubert Pitcher of the Year, Karla Beasley Freshman of the Year and Chris Hawkins Coach of the Year. •Baseball player Charlie Carpenter was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.
