From the President

As part of our commitment to enhance the LV experience,
improvements continue to be made on facilities and
operations. Kitchen equipment has been upgraded
for proper food storage and preparation. Bar facilities
have seen cosmetic changes and functional upgrades
with the addition of more reliable seating capacity. The
dining facilities can be enjoyed more comfortably with
the installation of new air conditioning equipment and
universal definition television capabilities. Renovations
to the outdoor patio and sun deck will soon be complete
with new furniture providing more usable space to
accommodate members and their guests. Access to
the sun deck will now be available through the east end
of the formal dining room. We have recently acquired
a banks mower, utility vehicle, and top-dressing
equipment for golf course operations. An automated
irrigation system is being considered for the practice
facility to reduce the long term cost of watering this area
manually. Needs are many but they will continue to be
reviewed and prioritized for future spending plans. Your
input is important and will always be given consideration.
Please remain involved.

Well, as it turns out, the sun doesn’t always shine and
sometimes the grass is below the water table. Such has
been the case for the last month at Lake View, but hope
springs eternal and recent conditions have improved
materially. So let’s play some golf.
Men’s League July 2013
Lake View would also like to express our gratitude for
the support provided by Mercyhurst University and
our sincere appreciation to the leadership and staff of
same. They have been a welcome partner and it is our
hope that this collaboration will continue for as long as it
is mutually beneficial.

SPECIAL RATE.
Invite up to three guests and introduce them to
Lake View. The fee for the entire group is $100 and
includes green fees and carts. Tee times available
after 12:00. Clubhouse will be open. A great way to
entertain and possibly bring in some new members.
CRANE’S TIP
Use the new practice area to sharpen your uneven lie shots.
You can practice uphill, downhill, side-hill, and combinations.
Some tips: play the ball off your uphill foot (for right handed
players: uphill lie off the left foot, downhill off the right foot).
Square your shoulders with the slope of the land, and swing
along the slope of the land. Uphill shots swing up, downhill
shots swing down. When the ball is above your feet, stand
taller and plan on a hook. When the ball is below your feet,
bend your knees more than usual to create a more level lie.
This shot should slice.
–– Coming Events ––
MEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Saturday, July 13 & Sunday July 14
36 hole stroke play tournament, low gross (scratch) in
flights. Play 18 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
Entry fee is $25. Flights are handicaps 0-3, 4-6( Black
Tees), 7-9, 10-12, and 13-15, 16-18, 19-21, 22+, (Blue
Tees). White Tee players will be divided into flights
based entries. Note: Flights with less than six players
will be combined with the closest flight. Gross and net
prizes will be awarded in these flights.
ETIQUETTE TIP
Please THINK SAFETY when you are on the golf course. Do
not ever hit when there is a chance you could hit into the
group in front of you. Always yell FORE and the hole number
when others are in danger of a wayward shot. If you have
ever been hit by a golf ball, you know it hurts and can lead to
serious injury.
DRIVING RANGE
When using drivers on the range, please aim over the gold
flag as this area is mowed over the hill. Balls hit into the
woods cannot be retrieved.
LADIES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Sunday August 25 & Tuesday, August 27
36 hole stroke play tournament. Prizes for low gross
and low net in flights. Entry fee is $15. Championship
flight (handicap 0-20), First (21-30) and Second (31+)
Flights. Flights with less than 3 players will be placed
in one of the other flights.
RANGE BALLS
The Srixon range balls that we use are softer than regular golf
balls. They travel approximately 10% less than an average
golf ball. We use these balls because our range is short and
we lose many balls in the woods. This ball also gives you a
good “feel”.
MEN’S MEMBER GUEST STAG
Wednesday, July 10
Invite a guest to play in a two man best ball
tournament. Entry fee of $150 includes lunch,
dinner, and prizes. Lunch at 12:00, followed by a
1:00 shotgun.
RULES QUESTION
A player’s ball lies next to the fence on #18 and is in bounds.
He cannot take a full swing because the fence is in his way.
Does he get relief?
COUPLES EVENT
ANSWER: No. The inside edge of the fence defines out
of bounds. By definition, objects defining out of bounds are
NOT obstructions and not on the golf course. The player is
not entitled to relief. He may play the ball as it lies or declare
an unplayable lie.
Sunday, July 21
An 18 hole two person best ball tournament. Pick
your own partner. Entry fee is $20 per couple. 1:00
shotgun start.
