THE VARLEY ART GALLERY
Every year, the Varley-McKay
Art Foundation of Markham
organizes a Fine Art Auction to
support the Varley Art Gallery.
In its 17th year, it is with the
same engagement and with the
same enthusiasm that the Auction
Committee gives shape to this
exciting event.
The goal of the auction is to
raise funds to support a large
portion of the educational
activities offered to the community
through the Varley Art Gallery’s
many programs.
The Varley-McKay Art Foundation
of Markham and the Varley Art
Gallery work hand in hand to
fulfill their mandates and offer a
sustainable vision for the benefit
of all.
Dedicated to engaging the
community through innovative and
quality programming, the Varley
Art Gallery is a place to learn,
create and experience some of
the best in artistic expression.
Since 1997, the Varley Art
Gallery has featured one of the
largest collections of Frederick
Horsman Varley’s work. Varley
was a member of the renowned
Group of Seven painters, and
lived in Unionville from 19571969. The Varley Art Gallery
offers high quality exhibitions and
educational programs for adults
and children, including in-house
and outreach programs. The
Gallery’s events and exhibitions
engage the community and draw
visitors to Markham.
Your support of the Varley-McKay
Art Foundation of Markham,
through the Varley Fine Art
Auction, will allow the Varley Art
Gallery to continue to thrive.
The Varley-McKay Art
Foundation of Markham
and the Varley Art Gallery
teams thank you in
advance for your support!

A Message from the Mayor
On behalf of Members of Council and the City of Markham, I am pleased to extend
a warm and sincere welcome to all those attending the 2015 Annual Art Auction
“Art for All: Enriching Lives with Art”.
Now in its 17th year, this annual art auction is a signature fundraising event for the
Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham. The event benefits the Varley-McKay Art
Foundation of Markham, which supports the Varley Art Gallery. The evening brings
together friends, neighbours, artists and all those who support the Varley Art Gallery
for an exceptional evening where over 50 original pieces of art will be auctioned off
to the highest bidder during this live auction.
The development of the arts is important to our community and since 1997 when
the Gallery first opened its doors, you have built a reputation for high quality
exhibitions and hands-on art related activities designed to educate and encourage
art appreciation in visitors of all ages and interests. This year, visitors to the Varley
can enjoy the recent renovations in the lobby and programming space.
This evening of “Art for All” which includes refreshments, fine wine and live music
by a Cuban trio is sure to be an event to remember.
As Mayor, I am a proud supporter of the Varley Art Gallery and I am delighted
to extend my best wishes for another successful event and thank you for your
continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Frank Scarpitti
Mayor
Welcome to the Varley Art Auction and Gala!
Every year a small dedicated committee works on bringing this special Varley event
to fruition. They reach out to sponsors, gather donations of high quality art, create
the catalogue, arrange the fantastic food and drink and train the many volunteers
who assist throughout the evening.
Where would we be without this wonderful group of volunteers?
I thank them all for their contribution to the Gallery and I thank all members of the
Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham for their effort all year long.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the auction. Bid high, bid often!

A Message from our Chair and Development Officer
Thanks to everyone for attending this, our 17th Annual Varley Fine Art Auction. Your generous support allows the
Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham the ability to provide funding support for many of the art programs
offered to the community by the Varley. In addition, we are able to assist with the funding for various exhibitions
at the gallery that enhance our community’s arts and culture. As always, there are many volunteers that help make
this annual event a success and I would like to thank them all for their willingness to participate in this important event.
art auction chair
I would also like to recognize the core members of this year’s auction committee who have spent many hours

Thanks again to an awesome team.
Paul Keeling,
Chair – The Varley Fine Art Auction
It has been such a privilege to work with this year’s Fine Art Auction Committee and the Varley Art Gallery team.
I am especially grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group of volunteers – volunteers
who hold the Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham and the Varley Art Gallery very dear to their hearts.
An event like tonight would not be possible without the kindness, support and effort of each and every volunteer
assisting this evening. For a complete list of the volunteers assisting us this evening, please visit the Varley-McKay
