We understand the build-up of residue on the production machinery requires maintenance crews to regularly dust everything off. The air can be thick with dislodged dust making visibility difficult and worker protection from airborne particles of paramount importance. The maintenance crew need to be able to get into awkward areas and complete the work in a hot and humid environment. We were told that their existing laminated coverall had been selected to provide worker protection at the lightest weight availability. The perception was that lightweight would be comfortable to wear. What was discovered when our distributor partner spoke to the maintenance team was that the existing coveralls and high humidity did not combine well. The workers were so sweaty that they were changing their coverall a number of times throughout their shift. Changing required leaving their workstation or cleaning area, proceeding to another area to re-suit up, put their protective equipment back on and return to their task. We were told that the workers appreciated the task and environment made work conditions difficult but heat stress and fatigue did impact worker health and safety. The impact on workplace efficiency and worker health and safety provided the impetus for safety review. The KLEENGUARD* A20 coverall was recommended and trialled by the maintenance crew. The product provided fit for purpose worker protection and increased worker comfort through fabric breathability. Flexible and comfortable, the KleenGuard* Coveralls enable dust and heat to coexist. The durability and wearability significantly improve worker satisfaction and minimise the need for mid-shift overall change. 7 KLEENGUARD* A20 Breathable Particle and Water-Based Liquid Spray Protection Coverall Our Solution Areas of Use •Suitable for protection against particles, fibres and light sprays of water-based liquids. • Handling powders • General maintenance •Construction • Contract cleaning Protection against dust, particles & light spray Breathable fabric reduces the risk of heat stress To provide high strength seams with barrier properties serged seams are used with triple overlock stitching Specially designed body, hood and waist for comfort and safety Silicone free for critical areas Single-use protective coverall complaint with Type 5/6 EN standards High Performance SMS Fabric Outer layer – cloth-like, yet strong and abrasion-resistant spunbond polypropylene. Our distributor advised that although a long term buyer of KLEENGUARD* coveralls, unforeseen changes in their business circumstances was the catalyst for procurement substituting a lower cost overall. We understand this is hot and dusty work. The sanding of fibreglass requires workers to be protected from airborne particles and dust and personal protection equipment including gloves, eye wear and overalls are critical. Over the course of a day the manufacturing team need a full range of movement, they bend and stretch, as they work access to target areas can be awkward. The overall needs to move with the worker. It needs to be flexible and comfortable to wear. With the need to reach and stretch to complete tasks came the ripping of seams. The incumbent overall were regularly replaced during a shift requiring the worker to leave their station, walk 5 minutes back to the store, remove the damaged overall and protective equipment, request another overall, re-suit up, walk 5 minutes back and start again. This resulted in wasted production time for the company and frustration for the worker. The distributor advised that as time progressed, inconsistent supply of the alternative overall and the dependence the customer has on overalls for worker health and safety, re-opened the door for KLEENGUARD*. Having previously selected the KLEENGUARD* A20 coveralls for their fit, durability, flexibility and breathability product attributes the customer was delighted to see that the product was the same quality today as it was more than a decade ago. We were told this resulted in procurement reassessing cost and value. Although the unit cost of KLEENGUARD* A20 was slightly higher than the alternative product, the added durability and flexibility meant one coverall would last through a shift. 10 KLEENGUARD* A40 Water-based/Chemical Liquid and Particle Protection Coverall Our Solution Areas of Use •Provides the best level of protection in the Kimberly-Clark Type 5/6 range •Is made from a high-performance film laminate fabric, providing durability, strength and protection •Is low linting, minimising cross-contamination •Provides protection against chemical splash and particles •Paint spraying in Automotive and Aerospace • Pharmaceutical industries •Manufacturing •Utilities •Electronics •Agriculture Protection against chemical splash and particles Specially designed body, hood and waist for comfort and safety Strong triple-stitched seams help protect against tearing Full length zip, facilitates putting on/taking off garment Low-lint performance, film laminate and internal seams help reduce levels of lint Film laminate technology provides a barrier against a wide range of chemicals Particle protection, keeps out > 99% of fibres greater than 1 micron Antistatic fabric EN 1149-1 for critical areas Silicone-free, ideal for paint-spraying EN 1073-2 approved for radioactive dust protection1 Compressed packaging provides auto-dispensing system and reduces storage space A80 Sealed polybags for low contamination risk (1) Provides no protection against radioactive radiation High Performance Clothing Fabric Outer layer – film coating resists splash and spray from many liquids and dry particulates. We were told that to change the manufacturing of one product line to another, the line is shut down, thoroughly scrubbed and completely cleaned using detergent and high pressure hoses. The maintenance team use coveralls to protect their clothing from damage during cleaning. As they need to get into difficult to reach places they need to be flexible and agile and not be constrained by the fit of their coverall. We were told that the customer was dissatisfied with the performance of their existing coverall. Their workers found the product regularly ripped when completing normal work tasks and were uncomfortable to wear, even more so in hot and humid conditions. As the product usage continued to climb with workers replacing ripped coveralls during a shift the customer approached the distributor for other options. The distributor offered three alternative products for customer trial including the KLEENGUARD* A20. We understand after rigorous user testing the KLEENGUARD* A20 was chosen as the best fit for purpose coverall available. As a more robust product, less coveralls were required per shift, reducing waste and replacement costs. The maintenance team valued the comfort and fit as highly as they rated the KLEENGUARD* flexibility and durability. The KLEENGUARD* A20 allowed for an increased range of movement and performed at its best for the entire shift. The breathability of the coverall reduced worker discomfort from heat and humidity.
