Dear Members,
I often get the same questions from Members either
through personal visits, Member surveys or Mindshare
(see below). In an effort to provide answers for the
benefit of everyone, I will answer questions asked and
ideas submitted with straightforward answers (without
any names) on important Club issues. While some
things may be controversial, it serves a purpose to get things out in
the open for Members to read and discuss in order to help make our
Club a better place. Thank you for asking.

Hey Patrick!
I wish these corporate Board Members would ask Members about
changing the menu. I can’t believe that the dish my husband always
orders, chicken fried chicken was “86’d” and why was the fried
shrimp po-boy removed? This is the gulf coast!
First of all, it sounds like me, you know what you like to eat. Since
the opening of the Island Grille and Tavern 91 back in November,
we committed to changing up our menus at least four times each year
to provide variety and rotate new items. Our team reviews a list of
all menu items for a particular period of time, sorted from the most
popular to the least ordered. Our most popular items will always make
the cut to the next menu edition. The least popular will be switched out
for new ones. New items come from either our company’s database or
may be chef created. The great news for us (and our sister Clubs) is that
the database for possible menu items has grown tremendously over the
last couple of years. Chef Art and other company Chefs may add items
to the database at any time. Our nightly specials or Chef ’s creations are
also ways for us to provide variety and test the likability of potential
new menu items. Recently, we have been able to mine the information
in our company’s database to see what the most popular items are for all
Country Clubs, all Clubs, etc. We have benefited from trying some of
these Member favorites from other Clubs here at our Club as they have
in turn become popular amongst our Membership.

Bradley MacDonald| September 2013
Bradley has worked at The Clubs of Kingwood
in our Food and Beverage department as a server
for around one year and has made a great impact
on our members and the department. He has an
amazing can-do attitude, goes out of his way to
help others out, is extremely hard working and pays
great attention to detail when it comes to his Member's orders.
Outside of the Club, Bradley attends Lonestar College, studying
criminal justice and enjoys music and video games. Please join us
in congratulating him!
Jessica Miniutti | October 2013
Jessica is a native of Kingwood and graduated from
Kingwood High School. She is currently a Private
Pilot and pursuing a career in Aviation at San Jacinto
College. Jessica has been with the Club since the
Sports and Fitness Center opened in 2008. She
managed the Welcome Desk until the summer of
2012 when she moved to the Tennis Shop. Jessica always meets our
members with a smile. She is eager to help wherever she is needed and
has been a big asset to the Club with her positive attitude and friendly
disposition. We would like to thank Jessica for her outstanding service
and offer our congratulations to her for being choosen as the Employee
of the Month for October 2013.

I took advantage of the opportunity to test several brands of
equipment throughout the summer when the various manufacturers
were here with their “demo days.” I wasn’t ready before to purchase,
but now I am ready for some new equipment. Do your equipment
prices ever drop at the Golf Shop?
Great question. Our prices for equipment are always at M.A.P. pricing
(Minimum Advertised Price) which is set by each manufacturer. This
means that our prices are the same that you'll find at Golf Galaxy, Edwin
Watts & every major retailer. If you're looking to go a step further and
get custom fitted for your new set, our Golf Advantage School is able to
take care of you at a cost of $75. At the G.A.S., Aurora or one of her
team of Employee Partners, can conduct a fitting which is absolutely
recommended to anyone in search of a new set of Clubs. The G.A.S. also
has a variety of demos for you to try out at no cost. Good luck!

Qigong
Qigong, also known as Falun Dafa or Falun Gong, is an ancient
practice for mind and body, originating in pre-historic China. The
practice involves some slow, gentle movements and a meditation. It
is easy to learn and enjoyable. Qigong practice helps to reduce stress
and can bring great improvements in health and fitness. Our class
practices this exercise on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:45
a.m and ends at 7:45 a.m. The class is free and everyone is invited.
The 5 sets of easy-to-learn exercises are:
1st exercise: Unblock energy channels, stretching of meridians.
2nd exercise: Complete opening of the body, increase strength
and wisdom.
3rd exercise: Energy exchange and purifying the body.
4th exercise: Rectify all abnormal conditions and unblock all
meridians.
5th exercise: Increase gong potency or cultivation energy and
enter into tranquility (12 minutes of meditation).

out when you know your kids are in a fun and safe environment.

The Kids' Club offers a monthly “Unlimited Kids' Club” rate of only
$39 per month for one child or $50 per month for the whole family!
Unlimited Weekend
Are your kids in school and can only come on the weekends? We
have an unlimited program just for you. Your family can enjoy
the benefits of being an “Unlimited Kids' Club” member with our
new weekend-only rate! The Unlimited Weekend rate is $19 per
month for one child or $30 per month for the whole family!
On this one day each month, we offer all of our $65 services for only
$50! Choose from a European Facial, a Swedish Massage or an Ultimate
Manicure and Pedicure Combination. Or, enjoy all three services! We
also offer additional discounts on many of our other services including
waxing, peels, body scrubs and more. As always, there will be delicious
fruit and cheese trays, wine and other refreshments!
“Unlimited” members also receive discounts on all of our child
programs, including Kids' Night Out, Kids' Day Out, and other
special Kids' Club events. Please see the Welcome Desk Staff or
the Kids' Club Staff for more information. Due to childcare code
requirements, childcare is limited to 4.5 hours per day, with a 12hour max per week.
Appointment times are limited and are based on a first-call, first booked
basis. Due to the popularity of this event, you may want to check your

Keith Dollar has taught at The
Clubs of Kingwood for the past
19 years.
Graduated from Middlebury
College in Vermont. In high
school, he lettered in four
sports. In college, he lettered in three sports.
Still an excellent golfer, he has shot his age
more than once. Keith has had tennis rankings
in singles, doubles and father-son doubles
in Texas. Keith was inducted into the New
Rochelle Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

Sarah was born in Baton
Rouge, Louisiana and
attended Samford University
in Birmingham, Alabama on

nursing and is currently a registered nurse.

Cathleen was a member of the University

Camp, New Brunswick, New Jersey (1986),

(1982 -1984) and has taught at Kingwood
Country Club since 2011 and is a USPTA
Certified Professional.
Cathleen graduated from Monte Vista High

California, Berkeley in 1986. She received
her J.D. from St. Mary's University in 1992.
She was admitted to the California State Bar
in 1992 and the Utah State Bar in 1994. She
practiced corporate law in California and
Utah before becoming a mother in 1995.

her husband, Kirk, son, Carey, and two

As we move into the fall and winter season,
some inevitable things are happening.
Regardless of weather, all of your friends and
family are getting married, having babies,
and celebrating birthdays, anniversaries,
retirements and other milestones. It might
just take some real creativity to plan these
parties if you are on a budget. It is a great
time in history to remember that important
occasions do deserve celebrations, but that
love matters more than how much you can
afford to spend on these parties.
I am excited to share with you some ideas to
make these parties fun, memorable and keep
your costs low!
LOCATION, LOCATION,
LOCATION
The location of your party will make a HUGE
difference in the final cost of the event and
there are lots of options for free or extremely
low cost venues that you could use. Did
you know that as Members of The Clubs
of Kingwood, you pay no rental fee and no
room charge or set up fee. This would be
complimentary! (and a lot less hassle than
having it at your house!) The only things you
pay for are the Food and Beverage!
TRIM THE GUEST LIST
While it would usually be great to invite
everyone that the guest of honor knows
to your party, each individual increases
the overall costs of the party. Food, favors,
additional centerpieces, etc all must be
multiplied by the total number of people.
While you might decide to not scrimp in
this area, trimming the guest list will be
worth your consideration before you get too
far into planning the party since it will make
such a big difference in your costs at the end.
BEG, BORROW AND STEAL
(OR USE THE CLUB)
What do you need to pull off a successful
party? A few items that come to mind
right-off-the-bat are: chairs, serving pieces,
tables, table cloths, chaffers, centerpieces etc.
It would be really expensive for you to go
try to buy or rent any of the items that you
don't already own. Did you know that the
Club will provide all of these items for you at
no additional charge? We even have a wide
variety of vases, hurricanes, mirrors, candle
holders etc. that you can utilize for your party.
COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS
Don't feel like you must plan the party all
by yourself. A great way to lower your costs
is to involve several co-hosts and spread
the costs of the party among you. A great
benefit of this idea is also that many brains
will be available for brainstorming when it
comes to figuring out creative solutions in
order to save money. Be careful, however,
since this can backfire. With so many excited
hosts involved, it can be easy to ignore any
budgetary constraints. The best way to avoid
this awkward situation is to have a reasonable
budget already determined before you invite
co-hosts to join you in planning the party.
This way, you can present the costs up-front
to your potential co-hosts before they commit
to getting involved, and everyone will be
more likely to stick to the budget.
DO IT YOURSELF
That doesn’t mean that you should literally
do it all by yourself. Instead, you should
consider the skills, talents, and potential of
you and your co-hosts before automatically
deciding that you need to spend extra
money and purchase professionally made
items to plan a successful party. You may
find that invitations, decorations, and favors
can be inexpensive and simple to make
yourself, as opposed to purchasing expensive
versions made by someone else. Also,
these can be fun projects for you and your
co-hosts as you prepare for your party, and
best of all - they are a fun way to add a very
personal touch that your guest of honor is
sure to appreciate! You can always find great
ideas on Pinterest!
EVITE
Speaking of invitations, technology has
improved quite a bit over the last few years
and you may not be aware of the cost-saving
opportunities that are available to you when
it comes to inviting guests to your event.
Some of the most popular websites for
inviting guests to events are Evite, Paperless
Post, Punchbowl and yes even Facebook. It
is a wonderful, free way to send and manage
electronic invitations to your party. With the
costs of stamps going up all the time, as well
as the costs of paper to make the invitations,
you may find Electric invitations to be very
attractive. Guests can even RSVP to you
directly on the site. This helps you keep an
accurate running tally of who is coming,
who is not and who has not RSVP’d.
Food (and alcohol) is often the most
expensive part of a party. Just looking at
the costs related to the food can make you
rethink your intentions of hosting the party
in the first place. There is an easy solution to
this problem that can help lower your overall
costs significantly. You should plan the party
to begin during a time of day that is not
considered a "meal" time. Generally, if a guest
is invited to a party during the traditional
time associated with breakfast, brunch, lunch,
or dinner, they will expect to be fed a meal at
the party. Breakfast would normally be 7 to
10 a.m., brunch would be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
(during the weekend, only), lunch would be
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner would be
5 to 8 p.m. A guest invited to a party outside
of these time frames would normally only
expect a light snack. With this in mind, a
great time for your party would be 2 or 3 p.m.
(either Saturday or Sunday), or after 8 at
night (Friday or Saturday). Most guests would
expect snacks and alcohol at the later evening
party times, but mid-afternoon parties would
be perfectly appropriate with coffee, tea, sodas
and snacks. You can save significant money on
food with this strategy, and the party will still
be lots of fun.
CHOOSE YOUR THEME
ECONOMICALLY
Finally, a fun tip to help you stick to the
budget would be to choose a theme for your
party that is budget friendly. The theme you
choose should be one that can be inexpensive
in every way - from decorations to food,
to alcohol, to invitations - but can still be
lots of fun! Don't forget to shop for decor
