We strive to create a positive race atmosphere for all participants and use some of the best XC trails in the Edmonton River Valley. This race is also an Alberta Summer Games Zone 6 qualifier for those interested. More information provided at the bottom of this Tech Guide. United Cycle Cycling Club is partnering with Hardcore Cycling Club to bring you a full weekend of racing with a Mountain Bike marathon on May 29, 2016. Important Dates Race registration will close May 26, 2016 at 11:59 PM Race the Ridge XC will be held on May 28, 2016 Hardcore Bike’s MTB-MA will be held on May 29, 2016 Registration Registration will be done through Zone4. All senior and ages 18 and up categories will be $40. All junior and youth ages 17 and under categories will be $25. Register at www.zone4.ca or http://www.albertabicycle.ab.ca/events. Registration closes Thursday, May 26 at 11:59 PM, no race day registration will be accepted! As a reminder, that’s a Thursday night so yes, the weather forecast will be pretty accurate by then. All racers must hold a valid ABA general membership, or be a member of an ABA-affiliated club. Bring your ABA licence plate! If this is your first race of the season, you will receive your plate free of charge. If you’ve forgotten one, or need a new plate, one can be purchased for $10 at sign in. Racers who do not hold a Racing License MUST register as a Citizen Racer. No exceptions! Citizen racers will have to pay an additional $10 for a single event license, which will be paid through Zone4 online. The ABA complies with and fully supports the UCI antidoping regulations, the clauses of the World Antidoping Code and its international Standards to which the UCI antidoping regulations refer and to the antidoping regulations of other competent bodies as per the regulations of the UCI. 2 Race Day Sign on will be held under the ABA tent located beside the main parking lot at Sunridge. It’s the same at every event so no excuses for not signing on. Sign on closes 30min before your start time, and opens at 8:00 AM. Please be considerate and if you are not racing until the later start, let the earlier start times sign up first. Teams and Clubs are welcome to set up tents along the finish/lap area. We do not have access to the chalet at the ski hill so no running water on site. There will be some snacks available for racers. 7 Mechanical/Feed Zone: Please check course map for mech/feed zone area. Double check on race day as it could change last minute at organizers discretion. There will be no neutral feed, please come prepared to take care of yourself. Bikes and Equipment: Bicycles need to be in safe and good working order. Please remove any panniers, kickstands, gunracks, airhorns, etc prior to racing. You must wear an approved bicycle helmet at all times when riding at the venue. No exceptions. Bear Spray: Leave the bear spray at home for this one. You’ll just make the medical guys nervous. Dogs: The race venue is dog friendly, please keep your pet on a leash. Dogs may not assist in the forward propulsion of the rider. Prizing/Awards: Cash prizes will be given to the top three places in Men and Women Elite. Prizing will be based on number of registrant. Draw prizes will be available for each start wave. Awards for each start wave will be conducted as soon as results are available from the entire wave. Medical On-site First Aid will be available for any incidents provided by MI Safety in the main parking lot. We would like to thank MI Safety Inc for providing First Aid Standby for our race on May 28th at Sunridge Ski Club. MI Safety Inc provides Emergency, Standard, AED/CPR and Health Care Provider First Aid training every week in Edmonton, and Devon. MI Safety Inc has provided first aid services in Edmonton for 12 years, they are an Authorized Provider of Canadian Red Cross First Aid Training. The Alberta Bicycle Association requires that two first aid attendants are at every sanctioned race. This is to ensure that all racers are kept safe, a typical race has its share of crashes, including scrapes, cuts, and sprains. Depending on the day, heat exhaustion is a possibility. We want to ensure that the races are kept fun and every one goes home safely! If you would like to update your first aid training, book first aid training at www.misafety.ca. Phone number is 780-449-5380, please see map below for directions. 8 United Cycle Ride the Ridge Outdoor Demo and Trailblazers Kids Race United Cycle will be hosting Ride the Ridge Outdoor Demo event the next weekend, June 5th, and is inviting everyone back out to Sunridge Ski Area to test ride some bikes and talk to industry representatives. Reps from Norco, Trek, Specialized, Cervelo, Felt, Mavic, Cycles Lambert, Shimano, The North Face, Innov8 and more will be on hand talking about new technology for 2016 and demoing some great product. In addition to the Outdoor Demo, United Cycle will be hosting a Trailblazers Kids race in the morning of the 5th. Sign up is day of, $5 per child. Each Zone final roster will consist of up to 6 riders, male & female in the below stated categories.
