How to buy an
Outwell Tent
Outtex® 100% Ripstop Cotton: Unique to
Outwell, tents with this symbol are made
from very high quality ripstop cotton.
Let’s be honest, choosing a tent can be complicated! Tents
come with all sorts of specifications, features and options and
deciphering the technical terms can be bewildering. Our guide
below explains the features and jargon of Outwell tents in
easy-to-understand terms, making it easier for you to choose
the perfect tent that suits your needs.
Outtex®: This is Outwell’s flysheet fabric, and the
number within the logo denotes the hydrostatic
head of the material. Hydrostatic head is a standard measure of how much water can be applied to
a material before it penetrates. Outwell tents vary
between 3000mm and 6000mm. We recommend
you never purchase a tent with a hydrostatic head
of less than 1500mm, as below this water is likely to
seep in. Also, remember wind-driven rain requires a
higher hydrostatic head.

Outtex® Airtech: Is a polycotton fabric that is used
to make your tent more comfortable on hot days.
The woven fabric has a water repellent fabric on the
outside to allow water droplets to form and run off
the tent. As the rain becomes heavier the fabric seals
itself to become waterproof. The material has also
been designed to limit the damage of UV rays, and if
looked after will last for years.

Wind Stabilizer System: This is a system
for keeping your tent stable and safe in the
most adverse weather conditions. Outwell
use Velcro as a direct attachment point for
the flysheet and tent pole, adding further
strength and stability by effectively tautening the whole structure after the guy is
pegged out. Outwell do extensive testing
and use the Beaufort Wind Force Scale to
test all of their tents. Where tents have
symbols stating:
1. Wind force 9: They can withstand winds
up to 47-54mph.
2. Wind force 10: They can withstand
winds up to 55-63mph.
Power Stability System: An interconnecting steel pole frame to ensure the sturdiest
of all tent structures. This is used for large,
family tents.
Space Frame System: Twin fibreglass roof
poles connect two of the tent’s main poles,
giving great rigidity to the structure and
maximising head space.
Extended Frame System: Tents with this symbol have
very strong main poles, therefore they can support
additional fibreglass poles to increase headroom and
make the tent more spacious and comfortable.
Hybrid Frame System: A system that uses Duratec
fibreglass poles to connect steel structural poles. This
gives a solid structure which Outwell have used to
create customisable tents that can be tailored to your
needs using zip-in pods.
Link Access Zone System: A detachable groundsheet
and valance which provides a clean, draught free link
between your touring vehicle and an awning or tent.
Pole Junction System: This is a multi-socket joint. You
fix it to the steel structural poles, and can then connect
Duratec fibreglass poles to enhance the tent’s stability.
One-go Inflation Technology: Rather than traditional
poles, these tents are supported by an inflatable structure via a single air inlet valve. You simply plug a pump
into the valve and you can inflate the largest of tents in
minutes – just plug in, pump up and go! In the unlikely
event of damage, each individual upright is isolated
using valves to prevent the frame from fully deflating
and to allow for easy repair.
Duratec Poles: These poles are made from a fibre-glass
based blend of materials, so they provide both strength
and rigidity whilst being lightweight.
Inside Pole Sleeve with External Entry: By having
inside pole sleeves the tent has a streamlined profile,
which greatly improves the tent’s stability. They will
also help you pitch quicker, as the poles slip smoothly
through the sleeves.

How to buy a
Outwell Tent
Flat Pole Sleeves: They provide the tent with a sleek
wind-shedding profile and an obstruction free sleeve
for easy pole insertion when pitching.
Detachable Bathtub Groundsheet: A hard wearing
groundsheet which can be left in or taken out altogether. The high edges of the bathtub shape mean mud and
dirt is kept at bay so your tent remains clean and tidy.
Fixed Ground System: Where the groundsheet is
a fixed part of the overall tent.
Sealed Inner System: The inner tent has been designed to follow the profile of the outer tent. This
helps to improve insulation and create a spacious
environment that is fully closed off from draughts
and bugs.
Integrated Vent System: This system provides
ventilation adjustment from the comfort of your
tent. The large vents can be fully opened, partially
closed using a zip-up mesh panel for protection
against bugs, or closed fully with the zip-up mesh
and curtain. The vents also have a deep cowl to
protect against rain.
Thermo Roof: It fits over the vented roof of your
tent, therefore allowing excessive heat to be controlled and improving ventilation in your tent.
Universal Inners: These inners are used across
a wide number of the Outwell tents, and provide
flexible accommodation to meet your needs. They
feature:
1. A zipped entrance that allows direct access
from one bedroom to another, whilst giving better
levels of privacy compared to the drop-down curtains when closed.
2. You can choose to close the connecting door so
that you have two bedrooms, or a bedroom and
private changing room with plenty of space for
your clothes. Or, if left fully open it creates a single
big room that is perfect for families with younger
children who still require direct contact with their
parents at night.
3. One side of the inner can be taken down and
rolled away, therefore giving you greater space for
storage outside the bedroom if that is what you
require.
Wave-Shaped Hanging Point: This spreads the
strain created when the inner is suspended from
the outer tent, along the whole of its seam rather
than having it concentrated in a single area where
it can cause damage and tear.
Easy Pegging System: Outwell tents use three
types of colour-coded pegs to help ensure the
right peg is always used for the right job. There are
grey anchor steel pegs for the tent’s four corners,
luminous pegs to complement the luminous
guylines and black plastic pegs for general pegging.
Tinted Windows: Protection from all weather
extremes is essential when camping, and that
includes the sun! These large tinted windows have
a special coating that reduces the penetration of
harmful UV-radiation, and they deflect the sun’s
glare to help keep the tent cooler. Plus, they have
the added benefit of providing privacy whilst you
can still enjoy the views out.
Zip-up Curtain: Gives you full flexibility between
total privacy and letting in some daylight and
enjoying the views. It simply opens and closes
with zips.
Toggle-up Curtain: Uses toggle fittings to allow
flexibility of choice between views out and nighttime privacy.

Screenhouse: A zip-close mesh screen
which helps to keep bugs out when the
outer doors are open for ventilation.
Reflective Guy Point: A luminous corner piece
where the guyline attaches to the tent, for
strength as well as night-time safety.
Skylight Window: High-level PVC window
panel for extra daylight, as well as watching the stars.
Taped Seams: There is extra protection across
all seams, the tape seals any needle holes for
manufacturing to ensure there is no water
seepage.
Night Sky Ceiling: Used on inner tents
to improve sleep by reducing light
penetration into the bedroom. Perfect
if you fancy an afternoon nap, want an
early night, to enjoy a lie-in or ensure
early-rising children wake a little later
than normal.
Fire Retardant: These tents meet all of the
latest regulations for tent materials.
Sleep Comfort: The industry standards
allow for 60cm width per person for
sleeping compartments, however Outwell
recognise that this is often not enough.
Outwell Comfort allows 70-80cm per
person, which takes into account your
airbed, mat etc as well as any personal
belongings to ensure you’re comfortable
and get a good night’s sleep.
Cable Entry Point: Zipped section to
allow a mains lead to be safely run into
the tent.
Luminous Dry Zip System: This system is
effective in preventing damp getting into
the tent along any stretches of the zip,
and the luminous piping adds strength as
well as safety.
Guyline Retainer System: Simple, but
effective, this allows all guylines to be
kept tidy when packing away or not
needed.
Trolley Carrybag: Wheeled bag for full and
easy tent transportation.
Carrybag: Bag with handles for transporting
the tent short distances.
Smart Tunnel Carrybag: Unique round,
flat storage and transportation bag for easy
pitching tents.
