I recently heard my mother's voice come
out of my mouth as I caved to allowing
Grace, my 11-year-old daughter, to bake
cupcakes. "Okay, but you have to wash
the dishes this time." I knew she wouldn't
complete the job, just like my mom knew
I wouldn't leave the kitchen how she
liked it. But there was also a part of me
that warmed to the idea of my daughter
beginning to embrace baking.
