Lourdes is the site of a Marian apparition
in 1858 and although a relatively recent
development, it is the most visited
pilgrimage shrine in the Christian world.
GROTTO DOMAIN: The Blessing of
the Sick, the Blessed Sacrament
Procession and the Torchlight
procession take place each day. The
Basilica of the Rosary, the Crypt and
the Basilica of the Immaculate
Conception dominate the Square.
Located beside the Basilicas is the
Grotto where Our Lady appeared to
Bernadette eighteen times. Nearby are
the baths that contain the Holy Water
of Lourdes. Near the Grotto is the
Chapel of Reconciliation and the Way
of the Cross.
Some places to visit while in Lourdes
include:
MARIAN SHRINE: Where Our Lady
appeared to Bernadette Soubirous 18
times during 1858.
BOLY MILL: Named after its owner
during the 17th Century, an English
Doctor. It was here, on the 7th January
1844 that Bernadette Soubirous was
born – the eldest child of a miller.
CACHOT: After losing the mill, the
near destitute Soubirous family moved
to an old deserted jail for shelter. On
Friday February 11th 1858, Bernadette
set off to gather firewood at
Massabielle, but this expedition was no
ordinary one, as Bernadette
experienced her first apparition.
THE CASTLE: Overlooking the town is
Le Chateau Fort, which dates back to
Roman times. It has withstood many
sieges throughout the years and is now
a Pyrenean museum.

THE HOTEL ALBA EXCLUSIVE TO PILGRIMAGES
ABROAD IN IRELAND
The Hotel Alba was upgraded to four star in May 2013. It has
been closed since June 2013 due to the damage caused by the
flooding and it will be re-open for Easter 2014. They are
refurbishing the hall, bar, restaurant & meeting rooms.
There are 160 bedrooms being renovated with baths being
replaced by showers and the public corridors are all being
re-decorated in keeping with their newly acclaimed 4 star status’

pilgrimage is a memorable one.
During 2011 all bedrooms, bathrooms, reception area, bar and
restaurants have been renovated and all bedrooms now offer air
conditioning and flat screen televisions. There are rooms with
no carpet specifically designed for those with allergies and inter
connecting rooms are available.

This superb hotel is situated on Avenue du Paradis, just 8
minutes walk distance from the entrance to the Grotto.
The hotel has been closed since June 2013 as a result of the
flooding in Lourdes but since then, they have constructed a
protection wall around the hotel with removable anti-flood
protection at the entrances. The ground floor is currently
being completely renovated with a new reception, new bar
& new restaurant. A large number of bedrooms are being
painted with new soft furnishings and new air conditioning
units.

visits to the Grotto, Basilicas, Baths, Boly
Mill, Cachot Hospice, Blessed Sacrament

DAY 4: Half day drive via Toulouse to
Rocamadour. Visit the basilica and Church
of Notre Dame to see the miraculous bell
and the statue of the Black Madonna.

RENOWNED PLACE OF
PILGRIMAGE
It is situated in the middle of Portugal. The
three shepherd children, Francisco, Jacinta and
Lucia experienced the manifestations of the
mother of God and the Angel in 1916 and 1917.
The Chapel of The Apparitions with the image
of Our Lady of Fatima is today situated in
Sanctuary Square, which can presently hold a
hundred thousand people.
FATIMA/ESTORIL COAST
This year on a number of departures, we can offer 4 nights in
Fatima and 3 nights on the Estoril coast, enabling you to relax
for a few days after your pilgrimage to Fatima. You can also
choose an optional tour to Lisbon, or other places of interest in
the surrounding area. Accommodation in Fatima would be on
a full board basis and in Estoril on a half board basis.
Alternatively, we can offer 4 nights Fatima and 3 nights Lisbon.

Santarem
Nazare, with its long Atlantic beach, is one of the most
popular seaside resorts near Fatima, and we intend offering
this tour most weeks throughout the 2014 season.
Santarem, about 35 miles south of Fatima was the scene of
one of the most famous Eucharistic Miracles, which
occurred in 1247.
The Church of the Miracle has a small museum relating to
the history of the Miracle in a room behind the Main Altar.
Pilgrims who visit the museum may climb a ladder and look
in through the back of the special Tabernacle for a close-up
view of the miraculous Host that bled over 750 years ago.
This year, we are incorporating our visit to Santarem in our
day trip to Lisbon. Half day trips may however be organised
upon the request of a group leader.
Nazaré is about 45 km from Fatima and en route we will
stop at either the Monastery of Batalha or the Monastery
of Alcobaca. In Nazaré we will visit Sitio, above the town to
see the Shrine of Our Lady of Nazaré and memorial
chapel which marks the spot where Our Lady appeared
in 1182. We will also have free time in Nazaré to go to the
beach, or for shopping.

HOTEL RECINTO **
Hotel Recinto is a small family run hotel with 33 bedrooms
and has proven very popular with groups since it opened
in 2004 due to its close proximity to the Sanctuary. All
rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning, direct dial
phones and satellite TV.
It has a large auditorium available for Prayer Meetings or
private Mass. The Recinto is about 100 meters from the
Sanctuary.

Hotel Avenida is a very popular hotel with our groups
returning year after year. It is a family run hotel with 94
rooms all with private bathrooms, air conditioning, satellite
TV, direct dial phones and a safe. The hotel has a
comfortable bar and spacious lounge area. It also has a
large auditorium available for Prayer Meetings or private
Mass. The Avenida is about 400 meters from the Sanctuary.

HOTEL TRES PASTORINHOS ***
Hotel Tres Pastorinhos is a three star hotel facing the
Sanctuary area where the new Church of the Holy Trinity
has been built.
It has 111 bedrooms all with their own bathroom, air
conditioning, direct dial phones and satellite TV. It has a
spacious restaurant and comfortable bar facilities. A
special feature of this hotel is its own private chapel.

Hotel Santa Maria is a very modern four star hotel only a few
minutes walk from the Sanctuary. It has 180 guest rooms all
with their own bathroom, including hair dryer. In addition all
bedrooms are air-conditioned, have direct dial telephones and
satellite TV. The hotel has a large dining room as well as a
spacious lounge area with bar. An Auditorium serves as a
Chapel for Mass and Prayer Meetings.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
HOW TO BOOK
Simply phone 01 635 9300 or your local travel
agent. Please read our booking conditions
carefully and also the insurance cover
provided, as you may find that you need
additional cover for personal valuables. Please
note that there is an addional insurance
premium of €25 for persons aged 86-94 years.
Our non-refundable booking deposit is
€ 200 per person (€ 300 for Holyland) which
includes the insurance (subject to medical
clearance). Should you decide to use your
own insurance, the deposit remains the same.
If the price is an inclusive price there is no
reduction for those not taking our insurance.
On receipt of the deposit, together with a
signed booking form we will invoice you
immediately confirming your flight and
accommodation details. The balance is due 12
weeks before departure.

FLIGHT DETAILS
Pilgrimages Abroad and Lauri Duffy Travel are
not responsible for flight delays. These can
occur from time to time for various reasons
and are very much regretted. However, we
would advise you to hold some money for
personal requirements in case of such delays.
PASSPORT-VISAS
An up to date passport is essential for all
pilgrimage destinations. Holders of non-Irish
passports should check current regulations
with the relevant Embassy. In cases where a
passenger does not have a valid passport (or
visa where applicable) no refund whatsoever
of any money paid will be made if the client is
unable to travel. Please note that for some
pilgrimage destinations passports must be valid
for at least 6 months after the date of return
travel. Also, all names MUST be given as per
your passport name, as name changes incur a
€100 fee per change.

While every effort is made to meet your
specific requests in respect of low
floor/adjoining rooms, etc. these are very
much subject to availability and therefore,
cannot be guaranteed under any
circumstances.
WHEELCHAIRS
Wheelchairs are easily available in Lourdes.
Availability of wheelchairs in other
destinations however is limited, and we
recommend, where possible, that you bring
your own wheelchair. Pilgrims who are
confined to a wheelchair or under medical
care must be accompanied by a relative or
friend who will share a room with the
sick pilgrim and be responsible for
him/her during the pilgrimage.
Motorised wheelchairs are not covered by our
insurance.
HEALTH BENEFITS
Pilgrims travelling to EU countries MUST
obtain an EHIC from their local Health Board
as it is a condition of our insurance.
GROUP SAVINGS
If you are interested in taking a group we give
special discounts, free places, promotional
assistance and specialised services.
All pilgrimages offered in this brochure are by
aircraft flying either from Dublin, Cork,
Shannon, Knock, Kerry or Belfast. We will

BOOKING CONDITIONS
Booking conditions for this brochure can be
found on a separately issued, detailed booking
form. It is exclusively the responsibility of all
travellers booking with Pilgrimages Abroad to
read carefully the conditions and details as set
out on this form.
AIRLINE CATERING
Airlines do not provide in-flight catering.
Drinks and snacks are available to purchase
onboard.
CANCELLATIONS & EXCESSES
In the event of a cancellation, for reasons
allowable under Pilgrimages Abroad BLUE
insurance such as medical etc, you will be
entitled to a full refund of your fare, less an
insurance excess fee of €200 (or €300 where
applicable). Alternative insurance companies
may have different cancellation policies.
MEDICAL DECLARATION FORM
All pilgrims with a pre-existing illness must
complete the Medical Declaration Form that
you will receive with your booking form.
Failure to do this may result in an
unsuccessful insurance claim. This form must
be kept with your travel documentation while
travelling.
SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS
All Pilgrimages are accompanied by a Spiritual
Director (unless otherwise stated). On
occasion your Spiritual Director may be
resident in another Hotel in the same
destination.
SINGLE ROOMS
All prices in this brochure are based on
sharing accommodation in rooms with full
facilities (unless otherwise stated). Availability
is limited for single rooms.
