Cause Overview
Thirty years ago, three Juvenile Court Judges were moved to action by the vulnerability of the
abused, abandoned, and neglected children who passed through their courtrooms every day.
Recognizing their needs, the judges organized a group of volunteers to administer a small fund
of donations. As a result of those efforts, Voices For Children Foundation was created. Today,
Voices For Children raises over 2.7 million dollars to support Miami-Dade’s Guardian ad Litem
(GAL) Program in their efforts to recruit, train, and support court-appointed volunteers who serve
as advocates for the best interests of over 3,000 foster children in Miami-Dade. Additionally,
Voices For Children provides direct financial assistance and other resources to meet these
children’s medical, educational, and social needs.
Event Overview
The Be A Voice Gala has been a signature event in the Miami philanthropic community for over
18 years. In company with Honorary Co-Chairs Christian and Brittany Slater with Gala Co-Chairs
Blain and Jill Heckaman, guests will arrive to an elegant cocktail reception featuring a silent
auction with goods and services donated from national and local luxury brands. The exclusive
auction customarily features an array of exciting pieces and unique experiences. From one of
kind designer handbags, to adventures with local celebrities, proceeds from the auction will
benefit several young lives. Emceed by Paul Castronovo, host of Big 105.9’s “Paul & Young Ron
Show,” this year’s Gala will recognize Jeff and Yolanda Berkowitz with the 2015 Humanitarian
Award. The evening culminates in dinner with a meaningful testimonial demonstrating the work of
Voices For Children and the Guardian ad Litem Program. The heart felt words of the children,
