Over 33,883 animals spayed/neutered at Planned Pethood Clinic.
Every spay/neuter means fewer animals will be taken to shelters.
Over 835 animals in 2009 & over 369 so far in 2010
have been cared for at the Adoption Center.

Since opening on April 26,
2009, many cats, dogs, puppies and kittens have had a
temporary home at the Adoption Center.
Visitors are always impressed
and say it is the best shelter
that they have ever visited.

The Humane Society opened
the clinic in a small rented
building in Boones Mill in July
2000. Planned Pethood
Clinic was the 2nd low cost
spay neuter clinic to open in
Virginia, just days after Richmond.

Update on Cookie and her puppies: If you got our February email newsletter, you’ll remember Cookie and her
puppies that were born under a very low deck during the
bitter cold snap in January. In order to get the puppies out,
Mr. Smith cut a hole in his deck.
We were unable to locate Cookie’s owner, so we brought
Cookie and her 3 newborn puppies to the Humane Society
where they spent the next two months. After spaying/
neutering, microchipping and vaccinations, all went to their
new homes.
Lorna (below left) gets in creeks, ponds, and lakes. She
goes on hikes and even enjoys fishing. Her new owner
Alexis Wilson reports “Every time we catch a fish she swims
out in the water to get the fish before the fish makes it on
shore.”
Snickerdoodle (below) returned for a visit wearing a
pretty spring dress. And Newton’s family reports that he
has outgrown several sweaters.

Cricket (below) is a 10 year old Yorkipoo that we rescued
from the county animal shelter. She and another rescued
dog were adopted by her foster family, Lucy & Virgil Goode.

Summer Frozen Treats for Dogs: KONGcicles

Buy a Kong toy for your dog in the correct size.
Plug the little hole at the top with peanut butter.
Turn the Kong upside down and put it in a cup.
Stuff with a combination of kibble, canned food, &
treats & add a little low sodium chicken broth. Freeze
overnight.
Your dog will enjoy it on a hot day.

Please meet Harley, a gorgeous Boxer (left photo). He
is about 1 year old and is a wonderful fellow. That is
why we can not understand why some one shot him
twice. His leg was shattered. We were hopeful that
his leg could be saved, but it was so heavily damaged
and infected that it had to be amputated. Harley loves
everyone and will gladly give you a wonderful slobbery
kiss.
The photo below is also of Harley, now named Reef,
on the ride home with Lindsey. He visited a horse
farm and he ran with a horse and another dog through
pastures. Then he visited his friend, a Jack Russell
Terrier, and wrestled with a black lab. He slept well
and was snoring all night.

loving care for so many months as
Chance waited to be adopted.
Thank God we were the lucky ones to get
him. It was certainly worth coming down
to you to get him. Chance sends his regards and says it's warming up in Canada.”
Hobbes (photos left & right), a comical
pit bull, absolutely hates bedtime but if
he's leashed he'll walk into his crate. If
he’s not on leash, he’ll do anything to put
off going to bed. He talks back, jumps on
the couch, jumps, wiggles, and barks. A
video of his bedtime antics is posted on
our Facebook page.
Hobbes now lives with 2 other rescued pit
mixes and a cat. Amanda wrote that
Hobbes is in love with his extreme Kong
bone, loves peanut butter, and really enjoys yogurt treats.
Barb & Larry Hutson provided
foster care for Sally and her
puppies (below) from their
birth until their adoption.
We have several other great pit bulls at
the Adoption Center.
Patrick (right) was part of litter of 7 Lab/Rottweiler mix puppies that came to the Adoption
Center in January. He now lives with a family with three boys. During his time in the Adoption Center Puppy Room, Patrick served as a warm bear rug for other smaller puppies.
Finnegan and Cher were adopted by the Gil Family.
Eight week old Lab puppies Cher and her brother Sonny
were found at the Grassy Hill dumpsters in February. And
brought to the Adoption Center. Finnegan is an adorable
Bassador (Bassett Hound/Labrador mix) rescued from the
county shelter.
Mrs. Gil wrote “Cher's name has changed to Chica so she
can represent the Cuban in our family and since Finnegan
represents the Irish in our family we will keep his
name. They are doing GREAT together! Finnegan is the
best protector for Chica and us.”
Brother Sonny was also adopted.

with her new family. Most of the puppies were chocolate merles.
We had the pleasure of fostering Daisy and Donald. These
two little siblings were just full of joy and happiness. I
know Daisy and Donald will fill someone's home with unconditional love. They have lots of puppy kisses and will
give them to everyone.
Bradley Wayne now is known as just Bradley. He and
Hugs to Daisy and Donald, forever in our hearts.

you for all that you guys do! We love Bradley very much. He
is incredibly sweet and makes us very happy.”
his 3 siblings are Miniature Schnauzers that were turned
over to us by their owner. After they were groomed by staff
member Charlotte Bowles, their adorable faces were visible.
