WE CHANGE LIVES….NEW BEGINNINGS FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN
Winter 2015, p2
Owens Corning Women’s Information Network and
the Aurora Project, Inc. are once again joining forces
to host a Wait Night on March 2 at La Scola Italian
Grill. Table captains entertain their guests during dinner; encourage diners to bid on silent auction items
and at the end of the evening “tip” the table captain
generously for being such delightful hosts. All monies
raised benefit Aurora House.
This year’s Wait Night goal is $10,000! Diners are
asked to pay in advance. For $30, attendees will
receive the dinner selection of their choice along with
dessert.
Our silent auction is featuring a six course dinner for
ten (10) at La Scola! The chefs dinner will feature culinary creations by well known chefs from the area,
along with a wine/beer pairing. If you are a foodie
this is a dinner you will want to bid on!

CREATIVE WRITING WITH JANE BRADLEY
Winter 2015, p3
SUCCESSES
While living at Aurora Angela reunified with her daughter
Bella. Once the two were together again there was no
stopping Angela from finishing the Aurora program,
finding employment and moving out on her own. Angela’s
poetry painted a goal for which she has now achieved!
With the assistance of Penta’s GED instructor, other
residents of Aurora House and a mentor from the
business community, Kasey received her GED certificate!
Kasey is now looking forward to finding a job and working
towards reunifying with her daughter.
We would like to thank Ms. Jane Bradley and her students for sharing their
time and talents in helping our ladies in the creations of “IF YOU WANT TO
FIND A RAINBOW, YOU MUST WEATHER THE STORM.” A collection of
poems and essays by the women of Aurora.
Over the course of the fall Ms. Bradley and her students came to the
house to work with the ladies on expressing themselves through creative
writing. The class ended with the ladies performing their work at the
Bleak House Café in downtown Toledo.
THE DAY I LEAVE
Having lived at Aurora for the past year, Brandy has
completed the program and recently started a new job.
Brandy is looking forward to the day she is able to move
to permanent housing and is continuing to work towards
receiving custody of her little girl.
The successes that each of these young women have
achieved would not have happened without their
embracing the tenants of the Aurora Project!
Angela
“I would leave this house and have one of my
own.
Isabella and I would be
free from Aurora.
We would be living
in a quiet neighborhood.
It would be just me and her.
She would be running around
and free to be a kid.
I can smell the fall air
while sitting on the front porch.
Watching the colorful leaves
fall on the grass.
Hearing the birds chirp
with no screaming children.
I’d be wearing my slippers with sweatshirt
and blanket,
drinking my coffee.
We would have pumpkins on the porch
waiting to be carved for Halloween.
Bella would be home from daycare,
spending the day with her mommy.
The smile on her face
being out of Aurora would be priceless.
I know this day is coming soon,
and waking up knowing this puts a smile on
my face.
It’s a dream that’s waiting to happen. “
