PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The Club has enjoyed another great year, culminating in a 25th Anniversary celebration at the Glenelg
Golf Club on 16 July.
Major highlights of the past year include:

Our magnificent Lady Lakers
Membership growth over the past 5 years has seen our membership base nearly double with a
substantial jump this year of 33 members or 20% Female membership has grown from 28 in
2005/06 to 69 this year, a staggering 146% in the past 5 years. Go girls!!!

The third Summit Half Marathon took place. Numbers increased from 18 two years ago to an
amazing 55 this year.

Five years ago the Club prepared a Development Plan
The key objectives of the Plan and progress to date are as follows:

Membership – Provide new members with
support and encouragement through a
structured induction process.
o Induction process limited but
membership growing rapidly
o Induction process to be reviewed and reimplemented

Training and Coaching – Provide quality
coaching and training facilities and a wide range
of training sessions to suit all levels of personal
development
o Wide variety of quality training sessions
o Training requirements have changed as a
result of the increased number, type & timing
of events in which the members compete .
o A professional coach (Nigel Pietsch)
appointed to assist with coaching activity

Junior Development – Recruit, support and
develop Junior athletes
o Junior sessions limited by small Junior
membership

Elite Competitor Support - Support and assist
with the development of Elite athletes
o Focus has been on Age Groups

Women’s Development - Encourage female
participation in Triathlon at all levels
o Progressing well with substantial membership
growth

Support for Triathlon in SA - Assist with the
development of the sport of Triathlon
o Lakers played a significant role at State level
o Continue through next year

Marketing & Promotion – Promote the club for the
purpose of public awareness of the sport, membership
growth and sponsor funding
o Questionable need for more promotion given
membership growth and positive morale

Sponsorship – Partner with other organisations to
achieve financial goals whilst providing sponsors with
value
o Strong and growing sponsorship activity over
past two years with a core of loyal sponsors
o Sponsorship marketing document to be revised

Communications and Culture – To maintain a communication system to facilitate awareness of Club
policies, objectives, goals and agenda’s and to fosters values of respect, honesty, humility and unity
within the Club. The following policies have been implemented:
 Communications
 Code of Conduct
 Bike Code
o New publication “The Blue Train Weekly” has reduced the incidence of emails to members,
has increased the information and improved control over communications. The “Buzz” faded
during the year but the information could be added to The Blue Train Weekly in future.
o Club uniforms continue to provide pride and identity for Club members.

Social - Create and develop a socially active club, catering for all members
o Christmas function
o Presentation nights
o Regional event trips
Given the time spent training together only limited additional social functions are required. Training
sessions will endeavour to allow for low level activity for beginners and families. Social functions
have been very professionally organised and supported over the past year thanks to a very
committed Social Committee.

Finance - Develop and sustain a financially viable Club
o Club finances sound and very well managed by our Treasurer

Facilities – To provide facilities and equipment to facilitate the achievement of the Club’s objectives
o Opportunistic consideration of a “home” base continuing
o Possible participation in new Henley SLSC Clubhouse

Organisational Structure – To maintain an organisational structure and system that facilitates the
achievement of the Club’s objectives
o May be reviewed in 2011/12 to more efficiently reflect members’ needs and the current
environment
The Club is in very good shape. The challenge is to maintain the momentum
I would lastly like to thank the Committee members for their work during the year. In particular I would
like to thank those who are always putting their hands up when there is an extra job to be done – Rick,
Nathan and Nigel in particular.
Once again the number and quality of nominations for the 2010/11 Committee indicates that we are well
on the way to another great year at the Lakers.

Treasurer’s Report 2011 (AGM August 28th)
Note: this report is just a summary of major income and expenditures and is not the report for auditor
1. Overview and Highlights:
 Bank balance at June 30 2010 after audit was: $32,783.08
 Bank balance at June 30 2011:
o Cheque acct: $3,462.29
o Investment acct: $30,908.61
o TOTAL = $34,370.90
 Hence ahead by $1,587
2. Sponsorship income: $3,825.

Adams, Mike Gallasch, Trish Nixon, Anthony Meade, Nigel Pietsch, Shannon Stacey, Jason McKenzie,
Lorenzo Peressin, Tony Brady, Matthew Fietz, Andy Cosh
3. Membership income: $7260 net.
4. The club pays an affiliation fee of $125 plus a Tri Aust Insurance fee of $700.
5. Running sessions: Thanks to Nigel Pietsch for his professionally run sessions. The $2 user -pays
ensure that this session is only a cost to those who attend. Fees collected amounted to $1032.
Expenditure against this was $1681 in coaching fees. Nigel has put in a huge amount of unpaid time into
the club eg Sunday runs.
6. Swim sessions: the member’s session fee of $7 went towards discounted entry fee (now $6.70) and
the lane hire. Excess swim fees collected amount to $700.The committee also paid a $1000 (plus $1000
for 2010) honorarium to Grant in return for the many hours he puts into the club sessions.
7. Uniforms: Expenditure on uniforms, bags etc was $24369; income was $21,397 (excess uniforms
from last year). Thanks to Battas for keeping such great records and the use of his house as a clothing
depot. We now have stock excess for new members.
8. Social functions: The club spent $2115 on social functions
(drinks at races, Xmas party, Bowls night, Women’s night,
Lake swim, BBQ hire etc
9. Internet costs etc: The club paid out $355 for web hosting
and domain registration
10. Other miscellaneous costs include Post Box ($86), trailer
registration and tyres $362, trophies $423, $60 for stationery,
gifts $512, venue hire $450.
Summary: the club is in a healthy financial position ($34K);
with finance now stabilised, we can now return some of funds
to members via club events and social occasions.
