About the Lottery
• Players must be 18 years old to purchase
and redeem lottery tickets.
• Store employees must be 18 to sell tickets.
16 year old clerks can sell if there is a
manager on duty who is at least 18 years
old.
• You can accept cash, check or debit cards
for lottery purchases.
• All lottery tickets must be sold for face
value with no tax or other charges added.
Retailer Commissions
Retailers earn 5% Commission
on all lottery ticket sales and
1% Cashing Bonus on all prizes paid out
Retailers earn bonus commissions by
selling prizes of $20,000 and more
Retailers have the chance to earn
additional money through regular
Retailer Incentives
Two Types of Tickets
• Scratcher: Tickets are sold through instore displays located at the point of
purchase to maximize sales.
• Online: Tickets are sold through the
online terminal (Altura). Each retailer is
assigned ticket stock for the terminal that
is for your store only.
How do I get my scratcher tickets?
• Your scratcher tickets are ordered by your lottery sales
representative based on analysis of your sales data
• Tickets are delivered by UPS
• New games are sent based on historical sales of that
game’s price point

tickets are needed, you may call the Virginia Lottery

How do I get my other supplies?
Ticket Stock will be shipped to the retailer or
delivered by GTech
Playslips will be shipped to the retailer or

Pick 3 Manual Entry
Pick 3 is a game where customers pick 3 numbers
between 000 – 999. Depending on the play type,
players can win up to $500 for a $1 wager
From the Home Screen, press the
Pick 3 button to select the game

using the Dollar amounts or use the

How to Play Boost
Any selection of the Pick3 buttons from the Home Screen will take you to this
screen. Boost button always defaults to NO. Press button once will toggle Boost
to YES. Boost only works on $.50 and $1 Base bets.
11. Touch the Send button to send the
wager to the host and process the
transaction. Any play option may be
changed before Send is pressed.
12. Touch Total to total the
amount owed by the customer
and then touch Clear to start
the next transaction
Pick 4 Manual Entry
Pick 4 is a game where customers pick 4 numbers
between 0000 – 9999. Depending on the play type,
players can win up to $5,000 for a $1 wager
From the Home Screen, press the
Pick 4 button to select the game

Megaplier Option
If a Mega Millions wager is entered and the Megaplier Option is not
selected, this screen will appear before the wager is sent to the host This
give retailers a chance to ask players if they want to add Megaplier for
$1 more per wager on their ticket

Megaplier Option
If YES was pressed on the previous Megaplier confirmation screen, OR if the
Megaplier option is chosen on the playslip, the final confirmation screen will
display. This additional confirmation is because Mega Millions tickets cannot
be canceled and retailers should confirm the wager selections with players
before printing the tickets

POWERBALL GAME MANUAL ENTRY
Powerball is a game where customers pick 5 different numbers from 1
through 59 and then select one Powerball number from 1 to 39. Prizes
range from $3 to the multi million dollar jackpot prize. Powerball
drawings are held every Wednesday & Saturday at 11:00 p.m.

Decades Of Dollars is a game where customers pick 6 different
numbers from 1 through 47. Prizes range from a Free Ticket to the top
prize of $250,000 a year for 30 years. Decades of Dollars drawings are
held every Monday & Thursday at 11:00 p.m.

Fast Play Games are online games which feature
extended play action and instant wins. There are no
drawings for the Fast Play Games.

Raffle Games
Raffle is a number match game where the system generates
and issues raffle numbers in a numerical sequence for a
configured number of tickets with in a configured time period.
Players win if their raffle number matches the numbers that

Using The Total Screen
As transactions are being made
they accumulate and are displayed
at the bottom of the Home screen
Touch Total after completing the
transactions for each customer
The Total Screen displays showing
the Grand Total for the transactions.
A negative sign indicates an amount
owed to the customer. A positive
amount indicated an amount owed
to the retailer.
Cancellation Policy
• To cancel an online ticket, press “Cancel”
and scan the ticket.
• No cancels for Mega Millions, Powerball,
Win For Life, Decades Of Dollars, Fast
Play or Raffles.
• Tickets must be cancelled the same day of
the purchase and before the drawing.
• Tickets can only be cancelled from the
same store where the tickets was
purchased.

Cancelled Ticket Receipts
Whenever an online ticket is
cancelled, you will receive a
Cancelled Ticket Receipt. These
receipts should be stapled to the
cancelled ticket. Keep the
cancelled ticket receipts until you
verify that you received your
credit on your weekly settlement
report. Once you verify your
credit has been received , there is
no need to keep the receipt.
Ticket Problems
• At times tickets will not print due to a printer jam or a
communications error.
• Use the Reprint function on the Terminal to reprint
the last transaction.
• Call the Hotline and describe the situation. You will
be given a credit reference number. The credit
should appear on your Weekly Settlement Report.

If the barcode is unreadable,
you can press the button for
the appropriate type of ticket
and it will take you to the
screen where you manually
enter the ticket numbers
Online tickets can also be
scanned using the playslip
reader!
Validating Tickets
For Scratch tickets, enter the
security code underneath the
latex followed by the boxed
digits using the number keypad
For Online tickets, enter the
numbers at the bottom of the
ticket using the number keypad
Validating Tickets
If it’s a winning ticket the
winning jingle will play and the
screen will display the amount
to pay the player if the prize is
$600 or less.
Winning tickets above $600
will play the jingle but display
instructions for the player to
file a claim with the Lottery
In order to pay the prize and
receive credit, you must press
the Cash button
Losing tickets won’t generate
the jingle and will state the
ticket is not a winner
Cash Receipt
After pressing the Cash button,
the ticket is validated. If the prize
was $26 or more, two receipts
are printed are automatically
printed. One is for the player and
one is for your records. You can
also print additional copies
before you clear the screen.
If the prize was $25 or less, you
have the option to print receipts
before you clear the screen
Delivery Confirmation
Always verify your scratcher ticket order against your invoice to make
sure the order is correct. Any errors should be reported to the
Virginia Lottery Retailer Support Hotline at 800-654-2500
Once the order is verified, you must confirm your order through the Altura

You must activate every pack of tickets when they are placed out for sale
To Activate a pack, press the Services button
from the Home Screen

Billing
•
The Virginia Lottery will bill you weekly. The billing cycle runs from
Wednesday through Tuesday.
•
The Virginia Lottery will electronically sweep your bank account on
every Thursday. All deposits must be made on Wednesdays before
your bank cuts off deposits for that banking day.
•
Billing for Online Sales and all Credits is done in the current billing
cycle
•
Scratch Ticket billing is delayed 3 weeks. Depending on the day of the
week a pack is activated, you have 23 to 29 days before payment is
collected .
Accounting and Reports
•
Some reports you will use include:
– Balance Report: This report is used to balance the terminal at the end of
the shift.
– Summary Report: This report summarizes and verifies scratch ticket
activations, scratch returns, online sales, cancels, cashes and
promotion credit for the terminal.
– Weekly Settlement Report: This report lists the balance from the last
settlement period, gross sales, cancels, total commission, cashes,
promotions, adjustments and amount due for a given settlement period.
