A Saturday Halloween Means More Celebrations and More Treats

In 2015, Halloween falls on a Saturday which means more adults and children will be
participating in the event. Halloween has grown to become one of the most popular holidays
of the year.

Halloween has become more of an adult event than ever before, helping boost spending on
costumes, candy, decorations and party materials
•
It is also the time of year with the most sales of candy. In fact, the top 5 candy selling days
are in October. It’s second only to Christmas for spending on decorations

Popcorn appeals to all age groups and is a treat that is easy for anyone to make. Popcorn is a perfect treat
choice as families seek to shut down from their technology driven lives and return to family activities from
simpler times, like family movie night and family game night. These activities promote quality family time
together and establish family traditions that parents remember from their own childhood
It’s also a treat that appeals to Millennials who are finding new ways to add flavor, drizzle chocolate and create
more gourmet recipes. And, because of its broad appeal and easy preparation, it’s perfect for Halloween
parties with recipes that add color and fun mix-ins, not to mention popcorn balls. It’s easy to share, serve and
decorate with color and flavor making it a fun activity for all ages and consumers

Approximately 70% of popcorn is eaten in the home (home popped and pre-popped) and 30% outside the
home (theaters, stadiums, schools, etc.). Unpopped popcorn accounts for 90% of sales for home
consumption1

The peak period for popcorn sales for home consumption is the fall. Sales remain fairly high throughout
the winter months, then taper off during the spring and summer1

Deadly Soiree
Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, has long been a tradition
celebrated in Mexican and Hispanic cultures but its intricate styling
and delicate detail have become a style movement all their own.
The upcoming film release of “The Book of Life” in October of 2014,
also has stylized masks and figures that are synonymous with this
celebration. The celebration is about joyful remembering of the
people no longer with us and takes place on November 1-2. This
look will be reinterpreted for 2015 in a darker, stylized adaptation for
adult celebrations
