Career Path:
My education and career path may seem somewhat atypical, but have amounted to a
very rich life experience, and a background that proved to be very useful to become a
PR professional. I work in one of Quebec’s top 4 PR agencies, called Octane Strategies. Agency life can be quite hectic, but it is especially gratifying and exciting since I am not
required to commit to working for just one organization or industry sector, since I work
for all of them at once.
As an Advisor at Octane Strategies, I developed tailored integrated marketing
communications (IMC) and branding strategies, as well as having conducted media
relations and media placement for clients such as Target, IOC, Ville de Terrebonne,
Desjardins and the Montreal Heart Institute. I am presently working with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon organizing team, which is based in San Diego, to help them
improve the event, and to define and reach their objectives.
Throughout my career, I have collaborated on projects related to a wide variety of fields,
requiring the constant adaptation my skills, a great deal of flexibility, curiosity towards
many topics and much creativity. Prior to joining Octane Strategies, I have held positions
in research support for organizations, as well as numerous marketing, communications
and public relations roles for enterprises in the energy, real estate, and retail sectors.

Career Path:
I grew up with computers and old-school computer games around the house, so I always
thought a) they were awesome, and b) getting a computer to do your bidding was even
more awesome. So I did an undergraduate degree in Software Engineering at McGill,
but wished throughout that I had chosen Computer Science instead (more math, less

electronics). When I finally graduated, I enrolled in a Masters in Computer Science, so I
could finally work with robots, which are the computers that actually do your bidding :)
After graduating from my Masters, I realized I could either move to Edmonton and do a
PhD, or stay in Montreal and get a job. Packing and unpacking is hard work, so I ended
up working for 3 years for Morgan Stanley, in Montreal. Last year I decided it was time
for a change, and now I work for Google Montreal on Chrome. I am also heavily involved
in community events — I organize a monthly meet-up for women developers, and every
couple of months I teach 9-13 year olds how to code.

Annie graduated from Trafalgar in 2001, after which she studied Liberal Arts at Dawson
College and then completed a Bachelor's of Arts at McGill University, specialising in
International Development Studies. She then pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) at the
School of Oriental and African Studies in London, England.
Career Path:
While pursuing her Master of Laws in London, Annie Bodmer-Roy began her career in
international child rights with the British branch of international NGO Save the Children.
She has now been working for the organisation for over seven years, and is currently in
Montreal on maternity leave, having returned to Canada for the birth of her daughter.
Annie Bodmer-Roy is Senior Media Manager with Save the Children Australia, where
she leads on all media work related to humanitarian emergencies and advocacy. Annie
is based in Melbourne and acts as Save the Children's point person for media interested
in the organisation's work responding to humanitarian crises and natural disasters
around the world, as well as its long term development programs in Asia, Africa, Latin
America and the Middle East. Annie also leads Save the Children's media work on
advocacy and campaigns, including the organisation's child survival campaign to help
reduce child and infant deaths globally.
Before joining Save the Children Australia, Annie worked with Save the Children in the
Occupied Palestinian territories, pre and post-conflict Ivory Coast, Japan's earthquake
and tsunami recovery program, and the 2011 Thailand floods response. Since joining
the team in Australia, Annie has deployed to Niger and Senegal for the West Africa food
crisis, to Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon for the Syrian refugee crisis, to Mali to cover the
conflict and widespread displacement in 2013, and to Myanmar for the response to a
tropical cyclone.

worked as a lawyer at the Ottawa office of Heenan Blaikie LLP, in a small practice group
headed by former Supreme Court Justice Michel Bastarache, specializing in
constitutional and administrative law, as well as in Supreme Court advocacy. Following
the recent announcement of Heenan Blaikie’s dissolution, I joined nine other lawyers to build a new firm from the ground up. Power Law LLP is a boutique public law litigation
firm in Ottawa that will continue to work in association with Michel Bastarache.

Career Path:
Maeve has been working in the CEGEP network for 15 years, and joined Dawson
College in 2008. At the beginning of her career, Maeve worked as a professor of
Language and Literature, and then as a non-teaching professional in academic
administration. She has been responsible for a variety of dossiers including, program
evaluation, revision and development, faculty professional development, research
administration and prior learning assessment. She is a mother of three, and an avid
competitor in triathlon, most recently competing in the World Age-Group Triathlon
Championships in London, UK in September 2013. Maeve will be competing for
Canada in the 2014 World Triathlon Championships being held this summer in
Edmonton, Alberta (her hometown).

Realizing that I did not want to fight for research grants as a University professor, as I
neared the end of my Ph.D. studies, I decided to look to the pharmaceutical industry for
jobs that would meet my skill set – love of learning, drive, passion for science and for
people. After speaking to anyone I could (friends of friends, parent’s friends, strangers) who worked in different departments in pharma companies, I decided on Regulatory
Affairs – the liaison between the company and Health Canada for new drug approvals. I
started in a small company doing everything related to scientific affairs (clinical research,
medical information, submissions to Health Canada and to the provinces) and learned
how to deal and negotiate with marketing, sales, quality control and R&D personnel as
well as with the scientists at Health Canada. I grew in that position, moved to a different
company for a while, adding drug development to the list of experience, and then started
my own consulting company. In that role, I provide strategic guidance to companies in
how to approach Health Canada, what type of submission to file to get their product
approved and how to present the science to Health Canada (and often present for
them). I am also Director of Scientific Affairs for a start-up company that is developing a

blood test for immune function. I am the link between the company and the doctors in
Canada who will be helping us to do clinical studies with our product. I am also there if
the doctors have questions about the product. Once the studies are done, I will get the
product approved by Health Canada. I have been doing this for more than 20 years and
love that I am always learning something new and am using my science and business
experience daily.

Education:
Aphrodite holds an Honours BA from the University of Toronto, an MA from Concordia
University and a Certificate of Proficiency in French from McGill University. She has
taught at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Western Ontario and
currently teaches in the Political Science and Journalism departments of Concordia
University.
Career Path:
Aphrodite Salas is an award-winning journalist who has worked across Canada and
around the world. She comes to CTV Montreal after hosting her own radio show, and
anchoring the 6 o'clock news for Global Quebec. Prior to that, she covered national
politics on Parliament Hill for CityTV's Toronto and Vancouver stations.
During her time on the Hill, Aphrodite covered two prime ministers, the merging of the
political right and the Liberal party's sponsorship scandal. Aphrodite has also worked as
a national correspondent for CTV News in Montreal, and was the network's
transportation reporter in Toronto. As an anchor, Aphrodite has been on the desks of
CTV's Newsnet, CityTV's cp24 and for two CTV affiliates - CKCO Kitchener and CFQC
Saskatoon.
Aphrodite broke into television while working at the Reuters East Africa bureau in
Nairobi, Kenya. In a pinch, her bureau chief needed a French-speaking journalist to
travel to West Africa and produce a number of short documentaries. Aphrodite ended up
traveling through Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia as part of the
assignment. She has also worked in India, England, the United States and sailed around
the Pacific Ocean as part of an initiative of the Government of Japan.

Rosella Tursi (Old Girl, Class of '85)

Career Path:
A freelance editor based in Montreal, Rosella Tursi has worked in the television and film
industries for more than fifteen years and is known for being a story editor as much as a
visual editor. She has cut internationally broadcast productions for major networks
including Discovery, CBC, Global, National Geographic, History Channel, Arte, Bravo,
Reelz, and Channel Four.
In 2012, Rosella was nominated for a Prix Gémeaux for her work on the French
documentary series Chasseurs d’Épices (ARTV) and some of her recent editing projects
include the highly rated TV movie JFK: The Smoking Gun (Discovery, Channel Four,
Reelz, SBS Australia.) Other recent work includes Restoration Garage (History
Channel); The Pickpocket King (National Geographic); Into the Lost Crystal Caves
(National Geographic and Discovery); and Anthrax War, which aired on CBC’s The
Passionate Eye and earned a Prix Europa nomination in 2009.
Rosella has also worked in fiction cutting short films including Bunny by Seth Poulin and
Perfect Vacuum, which aired on Bravo and has been seen in numerous film festivals.
Rosella travelled to Bristol, England, in August 2011 to edit the feature-length
documentary Titanic: The Aftermath for Discovery. The film aired on the 100th
Anniversary of the sinking of the ill-fated ocean liner.
In March 2014, she returned from London, England after having spent eighteen weeks
editing a few episodes of the new Discovery series entitled Rise of the Machines.
Passionate about sharing her knowledge, Rosella was one of five editors invited by the
NFB in the fall of 2010 to participate in the Stories from Our Land workshop as an
instructor, teaching young Inuit filmmakers about documentary filmmaking.
