PrayerLights® is a fresh take on devotional lights, designed to enhance
your parishioner’s devotional experience. Along with PrayerLights®, the
Will & Baumer product team has created a beautiful addition to our Paschal candle
offerings with the striking new Sacred Heart. We also introduce new Advent
candles and Candlelight service candles to enhance your liturgical candle needs.
On the process front, Will & Baumer is dedicated to innovating whenever and
wherever possible. To adapt to the growing need for environmentally friendly
products, Will & Baumer now supplies Offerlights® with a nearly 70% vegetable
wax formulation, eliminating reliance on petroleum based products for their production. In addition, our best selling Brite Lite Voticandles® are now produced with
environmentally friendly polycarbonate plastic cups, eliminating the use of PVC
plastic like others use. This new cup is also more durable, less likely to break and
more resistant to heat deformation.

Sacred Heart
Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:8
The Sacred Heart Paschal Candle reminds us that Jesus’
heart is like ours–at the center of our being, giving life and love
at each moment, the warm core of our desires and emotions.
Through His Sacred Heart, Jesus desires to be the center of
our lives, where His love ‘never fails’ (1 Corinthians 13:8).
This Sacred Heart Paschal Candle illustrates the fire of
Christ’s love that is human and divine, constant and unfailing,
to be counted on in all circumstances.
The devotion of the Sacred Heart of Jesus came about in
the 12th century. Though theologians such as Saint
Bonaventure addressed the concept, it was mainly through
the life experiences and writings of Saint Mechtilde of
Magdeburg, Julian of Norwich, and Saint Catherine of Siena
that the devotion really grew. Popularization of the devotion
rose to new heights during the 17th century with the help of
Saint Francis de Sales, Saint John Eudes, and most of all,
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.
The careful attention to details of centuries-old architecture
is highlighted in the design elements of the gold bands and
the gold cross. The Sacred Heart is predominantly placed in
the middle of this artistic creation, symbolizing that Christ’s
love for us is central to His human and divine nature.

“May the light of Christ, rising in glory,
Dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds.”
From the earliest of times we have used symbols, signs and
artwork to express our thoughts and emotions. In the church
especially, we have used these mediums to help us spread the
Word and give glory to God.
Our Divine Light Paschal Candles give glory to God as they
will enhance your sanctuary and add a richer prayer experience
to your liturgies. In addition, they will spread the word of God
through their rich symbolism of raised wax and gold leaf with
beautiful full-color designs.
Church liturgy describes a period of darkness beginning on
Good Friday, when congregations first light the paschal candle
during their earliest Easter celebrations, signaling Christ’s
banishment of death and darkness. Our tall white candle
represents Christ’s steadfast presence in our midst, and its
f lickering f lame dances with light and warmth, illuminating our
shadowed world. We continue lighting the paschal candle each
Sunday throughout the Easter season, with most congregations
continuing to light it until Ascension Day.
We also light this special candle for baptisms, signifying the
Holy Spirit and fire that John the Baptist promised to those
baptized in Christ. Just as we light the paschal candle at the
beginning of life, so, too we light it at the end of life. Its presence
at the head of a casket or beside an urn reminds us again
that Christ triumphed over darkness and that even in death,
there is brilliant life.
The central cross on all our Divine Light designs identifies it
as the Christ candle, and its f lame burns despite the death
Christ endured. The letters Alpha and Omega, which begin and
end the Greek alphabet, signify that God is the beginning and
the ending of all things, and that the Word of God is present
from creation until the end of time.
We insert the current year to signify that God is present not
just at the beginning and the end of time, but throughout history
and among those gathered here and now around the candle.
Each one of our Divine Light Paschal Candles is handcrafted
with full-color appliqués and painted raised wax applied by
our skilled and experienced artisans. The candle core is 51%
beeswax blended and purified in our own facilit y and combined
with a lead-free cotton fiber wick that will ensure a long-lasting,
smoke-free burn.
For over 155 years, Will & Baumer has handcrafted paschal
candles using popular symbols to give meaning and purpose
to our liturgies and the important spiritual moments of our
lives. Churches all over the world recognize the Will & Baumer

Our Paschal Candles begin with an experienced liturgical
design team who create Paschal concepts to add grace and
reverence to the Sanctuary. Will & Baumer is honored to work
with Ellen Kamysz, a successful design artist with many years
of experience designing candles and Sanctuary appointments
for the Church. Ellen draws on her spiritual life experiences to
envision traditional and contemporary designs that meld with
church interiors of today.
At the factory, Will & Baumer artisans interpret Ms.
Kamysz’s designs with handmade wax molds, forming them into
beautifully interpreted designs. Each Sculpted Light Paschal is
hand carved from a model, then crafted in a silicon mold into
which perfectly blended wax is poured. Highly skilled hand
painting is the final step before careful and secure application
of design ornaments to the candle.
Every Will & Baumer Paschal Candle is made of 51% beeswax
and hand tooled to ensure a blemish-free finish. Our candles
are handcrafted to burn with confidence for a long-lasting,
smoke-free performance.

Advent Candles
SARUM ADVENT BLUE
With the demise of the Roman Empire and the invasion of the pagan AngloSaxons, Christians in Britain were in hiding and the church was in disarray.
Pope St. Gregory the Great recognized that Gaul needed a leader and sent St.
Augustine to England. St. Augustine found a robust church that had developed
over time, rituals and practices that were different from the Roman rites but
fitting in a land with a different heritage. He embraced this form of Christianity
and it found its way into the liturgy that he spread throughout the region. Several
centuries later when the Normans invaded the British Isles, their ritual along with
the Gallic rites, formed what today we know to be the Sarum tradition.
The Sarum rites brought us special hymns and practices as well as church
colors that differed from the rites spread throughout the Roman Empire. During
the Advent season, which was gaining liturgical significance, Christians used a
blue sarum color to adorn their vestments and candles.
Christians believe that Advent is a season of preparation that anticipates both
Bethlehem and the consummation of history in the second coming of Jesus
Christ. Since this anticipation is characterized by hope — in contrast to the
repentance characteristic of Lent — the color for the Advent season should be
blue with its hopefulness.
Today, Will & Baumer is proud to present our exclusive Sarum Advent
Candles that replicate the liturgy of ancient Gaul and are colored with a majestic
blue and rose. Our handcrafted Sarum Advent Candles are reminiscent of
the early church in times of persecution, when being a Christian was both
dangerous and difficult.

PURISSIMA PURE BEESWAX CANDLES
A Will & Baumer Tradition Since 1855
Pure beeswax candles have been used for light and to illuminate
man’s religious celebrations for more than 5,000 years, yet little is
known about their origin. While we have no definitive date for the
development of the first candle, we do know that candles were
developed independently in many countries. Accounts of candle
use date back to ancient times, with Biblical references as early as
the tenth century BC.
In the early years, when Christians were persecuted, beeswax
candles were used in hushed ceremonies of small gatherings at night
or in the catacombs surrounding Rome. Our church fathers
proclaimed pure wax extracted from virgin bees as a symbol of the
pure f lesh of Christ received from His Virgin Mother. They taught
us that the wick signified the soul of Christ, and the f lame
represented His divinit y which absorbs and dominates both. In a
troubling time for new Christians, candles were both a light source
and a symbol of one’s faith.
When Christianit y became widespread and Basilicas and
Cathedrals were built all across Europe, the faithful embraced pure
beeswax candles to enhance their majestic sanctuaries. Unlike
tallow candles, beeswax produced long-burning and smoke-free
candles which gave off a pleasant odor and did not stain the glass,
ceilings and painted works of art in the magnificent churches
of the time.
Over the centuries, the church, in its infinite wisdom, set forth
canon law stating that its candles must be “maxima parte” of
beeswax to be in keeping with the pure f lesh of Christ and to enrich
the essence of the Holy Sacrifice of The Mass.
In keeping with our blessed traditions, Will & Baumer in 1855
began blending European pure beeswax and perfected candle
processes that are still used to this day. These wax formulations represent
the very best in church candle making and ensure the quality that our
church fathers wanted for their liturgies centuries ago.
