Many BSCC members put in time and effort to make our 2016 June 18th BRITISH BASH, with over
150 beautiful cars, a delightful success. Many thanks to each person including these most efficient
Vote Counters:
Ron & Carolyn Baylor
Bruce & Carolyn Skaggs Barry & Sheryl Meier Judy Moore
Tony & Sharon Stefater Vickie Wilson
LaDon Olson
Larry Young
Thanks also go to Carol Bennett who helped AV and to Russell Mills who got together the prizes and helped
with the finale of the Vote Counting results. Thanks AV Dodd, BRITISH BASH for Vote Counting Co-Ordinator
August meeting, where?
The question was answered at our June meeting, well, at lease the part about how often we should meet at the
same place. Answer: 3-months, but the where part was left open. Personally believing it should be in Indiana,
I asked Howard Hosp to find us a good place. I’m looking forward to his recommendation at the July meeting.
Good news ~ Bad news
 First the good news: Our Club Leo Halbleib won Joe Guffey’s incredible MGB V8 raffle car at the Bash!
Look for some raffle details and the Bash results in the newsletter. Thank you again Joe!
 The bad news: Bill Fryrear’s AH 3000 beautiful Austin Healey
3000 was “T-boned” on the driver's side just ahead of the door.
The accident occurred at the intersection of
Finchley and Blankenbaker Pkwy on Tuesday
July 5th around noon when a panel truck
driver admitted running red light hit a car
and then ran into Bill's special classic.
Thank Goodness his car was not hit just a few
feet more towards the rear in the driver’s door
as it could have been a lot worst for Bill...
Bill was taken to Baptist East Hospital where
they diagnosed a partially collapsed lung and
after 5-Days of treatment and recovery.
 The car is in the sick ward garage and pending a visit to the Healey Hospital. to be fixed. Let’s hope so!.
BASH 2016 & 2017
It needs to be said and re-said… Russell Mills, Greg Bowman and their team did one heck of
a job chairing the Bash this year! You need to keep in mind, putting together a successful Bash
and integrating it with the MG 2016 National event is nothing less than a full time job but yet,
they did it while trying to maintain gainful employment. Thanks guys.
There have been a lot of pro/con comments about where to have the British Bash next year and to be totally
honest I personally didn't like the waterfront location in 2015 however the 2016 Bash changed my mind. I thought
it was really quite a nice venue, but it really isn't my opinion that counts – it properly belongs to our membership!
Want it somewhere else? I will bring up the subject at our next meeting and for dissenters to having it at the
waterfront they will be challenged to find alternate locations.
The challenge will be harder than what they expect especially when they see how many requirements need to be
met. Greg Bowman’s with Vickie Wilson created a questionnaire with important questions & considerations and
I’ve printed copies to pass out at the meeting. I will keep one for myself because after looking at it, I’ve learned I
didn’t ask the right questions when I visited Farmington earlier this year. Shows how much work is involved too!
Russell and Greg have agreed to chair the 2017 BRITISH BASH and it will only be fair to them to have
completed questionnaires by the end of August so they can start vetting the places.
SEE YOU AT THE PICNIC! – Dona confirmed order food for the 35 who RSVP’d
03. SELECTION OF A BRITISH BASH VENUE FOR 2017:As discussed by members from time to time the interest in old, current or new suggested venues, Nancy Bowman
and Vickie Wilson prepared this excellent data on what it take to select a venue with location day availability,
permits, all related needs and related costs for the Club before Greg Bowman and Russell Mills select our site: -
04. FINANCIAL REPORT: Sent to all current members via e-mail (Not posted on Web Site).
EDITOR NOTE:
Men Jeff Zom, Ladies Marion Bumbalough not present wearing their badge at the meeting missed $14005.
MG2016 & BRITISH BASH 2016 REPORT BY NANCY BOWMAN: June 2016 was an extremely busy month for some of the BSCC Members, as approximately
800+ MG’s traveled from as far away as Australia with all make and model of MG for the
MG2016 event. This was an all MG Registers event, which is held every five years.


 The North American Council of MG Registers selected Louisville, Kentucky as this
year’s destination after several visits to the city, and meetings with Russell Mills, Greg and Nancy
Bowman, Roger and Dona Coates, and nearly two years of planning.
Many BSCC members attended the event as participants and as hosts – Cliff and Vickie Wilson, Carolyn
and Ron Baylor, Sylvia and Danny Jones, Larry Young (who assisted participants with broken parts,
etc. making his shop crew available),
Trevor Jessie (who provided the event with maps to all events and put together a great Self-Guided Drive
Map Book), and Howard Hosp (who planned and led local drives/lunches, with the help of Ron Baylor,
Cliff Wilson, Bob Striegel, Mark Mattingly and Don Minnich).
The event had tech sessions, local drives, tours of the Bourbon Trail and other Kentucky and Southern Indiana
venues, and a Fascinator making class prior to the show on the Great Lawn on Thursday. MG2016 ended with
the awards dinner featuring Dennis Gage, host of TV’s “My Classic Car” as the keynote speaker. The MG
Council has received many kudos for the BSCC members who helped make this an enjoyable and successful event.

The 1947 MG-TC race car driven by Denver Cornett in
the first races at Watkins Glen was on display in the
lobby of the Crowne Plaza all week for MG2016. Denny
Cornett brought the car to the waterfront on Thursday,
and again on Saturday for the British Bash. Many at the
show had questions about the car, and enjoyed learning
about the great history.

MG2016 had a beautiful venue on the Great Lawn, even in the heat! Many compliments were received
for the entire event, including the venue of the Great Lawn. (Photos below).

Thirty-eight BSCC members showed up on the Sunday before MG2016 to stuff bags for the event.

The MG2016 North American Council of MG Registers could not have been more pleased! There were
800+ bags stuffed in about 1.5 hours! Great work! ( Individual thank you sent by Dona Coates.)

ORGANIZED BY GREG BOWMAN & RUSSELL MILLS with volunteer helpers






Russell Mills and Greg Bowman received a beautiful plaque for all of their work
in representing the BSCC as the host club and their many hours of planning,
getting permits and many other projects for the Council, ensuring that MG2016
would be a success.
Danny Jones won second in his division for his MG Midget,
Jeff Leachman won fourth
place in his division,
Cliff Wilson won second in
the Other British through 1980
division,
Russell Mills won third in the
Other British through 1980
division.
Nancy Bowman was awarded a medal for her assistance to the MG2016 success.
The 2016 BSCC Bash – “Brits by the River “– was another huge success, thanks to Russell and Greg and the
British Bash Committee! There were 150+ British cars on the Riverfront for this year’s event. A gentle breeze,
and lawn chairs on the shaded grassy area provided a lovely backdrop for the venue and the participants. Several
cars that participated in the MG2016 extended their stay to join our British Bash. Many BSCC members won
awards this year. Sample of some of this years British Bash Awards.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE BUYING TIRES? I DID.
After a lot of research and forum reading for the ideal replacement tires for my Lotus Elan I settled on four BF
Goodrich 205/50ZR-16 performance rated radials. I ordered them from The Tire Rack and had them drop shipped
to Michel Tires on Bardstown Road where they arrived a few days later. Michel has a contractual arrangement
with them so they discounted the mounting and balancing to a very reasonable $60.
SO FAR SO GOOD: I hate these tires! Damn, I hate these tires! They ride like old, hard snow tires; I don’t know of a better way to
describe it but I think Joe Guffey once remarked he had a set of tires that rode like
bare rims. I understand what he was talking about. After owning them for a few
weeks I called Tire Rack to share my comments. My call wasn’t to complain
because the purchase decision was totally mine; not theirs.A friendly voice
belonging to Quinn answered the phone and she listened. I mean she really
listened. Quinn said, “Let me call BF Goodrich and I’ll get back to you.” Less
than 24-hours later she called me and said, “Let’s fill out a return document…”
Wow! Totally impressive! Guess where I’ll buy my next set of tires?
Here’s a picture of a BF Goodrich tire. Looks like a snow tire, doesn’t it?
PS: EDITOR REPORT: ‘Tire Rack Called back again is advising Gary that not only will they issue 100%
refund for the tires Gary is returning, they will also pay for return UPS shipping. Tire Rack to provide 50% or
the total credit and BF Goodrich the other 50% of the costs. On top of that Gary delighted they have real people
on their phones, and Gary talked to were in Indiana, not India!

FROM CONVERATION AT CARL CASPER SHOW: Owner claims the car has sat inside for many years. Was bought for mother, got it running and had a new cloth top
installed, new tires, and bought all the patch panels. A complete tan interior, wood dash kit, and other odds and ends,
the plan was to redo it, paint it robin egg blue.
I was doing my car and this was something I really didn't want to work on. Mom got to drive it and a few years back
she said she really didn't want it, so it needs to go
Reports Bob Conelly in Indy worked on it, said it needed rebuilt. Had a friend remove the head and did the valves. He
reported got it running but the fuel pump was leaking and he couldn't find another. Report have done nothing to it
since. The car is located on the east side of Indy, but I could bring it back to my house in Sellersburg if needed.
For the car and all the parts asking $3,850 and hoping for $3,500. That didn't happen, so hoping to sell the whole
package for $3,000 or best offer. Reports he knows he can get more for it if I get it running and might have to work on
it once he get his barn floor done and a place here at his house so it isn't in his way.
it has about 80,000 miles, 4 speed transmission, think it is original paint. It drove pretty good the 100 miles or so that
he was able to drive it, run like crap the longer he run it, but drove good.
if anyone would be interested in talking about it of any of the parts (all bought at Moss Motors)

29. 2016 THEY STILL DO NOT COME WITH CUP HOLDERS FROM THE FACTORY
For the last 10 years the 4 wheel Morgan’s have been
banned for import to the USA, for not meeting current
USA Crash Test Specifications, but you can buy the
motor cycle engine Morgan $53,000 3-wheeler.
$14:95 extra from your parts store for the clamp on
cup holder - of course!
30. PS: From:"Trevor Jessie trevor.jessie@gmail.com [BritishSportsCarClub]"
I just purchased a transmission from a guy in Hurstborne.
He abandoned an MG midget restoration, but still has a bunch of parts.
It would be the perfect opportunity for someone about to undertake a restoration since he has new sheet metal, a
complete 1275 engine, new weber carb/manifold, an aluminum flywheel, new floorpans, solid used fenders,
hood, trunk, a bunch of new rubber bits, windshields, etc.
