Chile is geographically unique.
Its boundaries define a long and narrow country,
spanning over 4,300 km (2,672 mi) of Pacific
Ocean coastline on the western edge of South
America. The Andes Mountain Range, rising over
5,000 m (16,405 ft.), creates a natural barrier
to the east. Between the ocean and mountains,
it has an average width of 175 km (109 mi).
In the north, the Atacama Desert, one of the
world’s most arid climates, gives way to the fertile
Central Valley. To the south is Patagonia, a region
with thousands of islands, fjords and millenary
glaciers reaching the Antarctic. Chile’s natural
boundaries have defended the country from
phyloxera, the most lethal of vine plagues, making
it the only country in the world not attacked with
the plague of 1877 and that has pre-phyloxera
clones planted on its own root stock. With its
diversity of terroirs, Chile represents the energy
of the New World. From Elqui to the north, to
Osorno in the south, there are approximately
117,560 hectares (290,487 acres) planted
with about 50 varieties of vinifera grapes,
of which 75% corresponds to red and 25%
to white varieties. Today, Chile is recognized
as an important wine producing nation of
exceptional quality.
MontGras is a winery with soul and that’s the
way it has been forged since the onset with one
clear objective: consistently create world-class
wines from Chile’s best terroirs. Brothers Hernán
and Eduardo Gras, along with partner Cristián
Hartwig gave life to the winery in 1993,
combining state of the art technology with the
talent and passion of a very special group of
people. With the inspiration of Hernán, who
had a long winemaking trajectory in Canada,
along with the entrepreneurial vision of his brother
Eduardo and Cristián’s pragmatic businesses
view, they made a perfect combination that has
converted MontGras into one of the major wine
groups of Chile, with presence in the main wine
regions of the country – Colchagua, Maipo
and Leyda-, along with a high participation in
international markets. ENJOY your Dinner with
this fabulous wine from South America.
When dining with us that evening, receive your
choice of a complimentary bottle of wine per
table, chosen from one of the evenings’ tastings.
Reservations are required for dinner in order to

Use Card and Board Games to Keep Minds Sharp
As people age, keeping the mind sharp is becoming one of their latest obsessions. In hundreds of residential resort
and retirement communities around the US, players who are heading for the century mark play regularly and
there is good reason to believe, based on medical research, that the mental activity prolongs their lives.
At a recent duplicate bridge table at BWCC, the combined ages of the players roughly equaled the number of
days in a year and the level of play placed these players near the top of their field. Said one player: “It’s like
sending my brain to our fitness center.” In fact, a recent University of Wisconsin study found that “participants who
engaged in cognitive activities like card games have higher brain volume, in specific regions, compared to peers
who played fewer or no games.”
According to a recent study by the AARP, members who were interviewed believe that maintaining mental acuity
is second only to a healthy heart in sustaining a healthy lifestyle. While many are attracted to mind challenges
and computer games, these activities don’t offer the same opportunities for social engagement as do bridge, Pan,
Mahjong, gin rummy, poker, chess and other tried-and-true games. Just step into one of our card rooms any day
or evening, or attend one of our bridge seminars, and you will experience the buzz of mental exercises and social
activities. Do yourself a favor – become part of the healthy lifestyle.

4th Annual
$200,000 Golf Challenge
and the Concert for The Children
April 4
April 5
Frequently
Asked Questions
Q: What does my $600
golf entry fee cover?
A: You will receive the famous Boca West
style brunch, on course food, entry welcome
bag, two special gifts from our sponsors,
team golf shirt, chance to win on course
prizes and help a deserving child receive a
$10,000 college scholarship, $150 to purchase gifts from the super
store, your own duck to participate in the famous $5,000 Duck
Drop, golf balls, tournament contests, entry into the Gala Cocktail
Party & Awards Presentation, chance to participate in the LIVE
AUCTION with items including trips to exclusive resorts in the
Caribbean, cruises, a weekend in Las Vegas with Celine Dione,
and a day at Jay Leno’s Garage. And of course you receive one
ticket to the “Concert for the Children” starring Aretha Franklin
and The Symphony of the Americas and featuring the Atlantic
City Boys to be held the next night on the Great Lawn
of Boca West.
Q: Do I have to be a low handicap golfer
to participate in the tournament?
A: No, The 500 person field will be formed into 19 teams
representing our 23 granted charities (you may choose which
charity to play for or if you do not have a preference the
Foundation will match you up for play). The charities will split
the $200,000 dependent on what position their team ends up in
at the end of the day. Your handicap will be counted as part of the
overall score for your team so low or high handicappers will both
be useful.
Q: Is the golf tournament limited to men only?
A: No, you may make up a foursome composed of men only,
women only, or couples. You may also sign up as a single or a
twosome and the committee will put your foursome together.
Q: Can I request to sit with my friends at the
Concert for the Children?
A: The seating will be set up similar to the Tanglewood event each
year. There is not a bad seat in the house. Four massive television
screens are set around the amphitheater. All seats will be assigned
and we will have a lottery determining seating
on March 15. You may request at any time
before that date, who you wish to sit with (we
have a limit that to eight people maximum).
Please note requests on your registration form
or contact the Foundation office at 488.6980
or by email at amorales@bocawestcc.org.
Q: Will there be any food and drink to purchase prior
to The Concert for the Children?
A: The doors will open at 6 p.m. and there will be food and drink
available to purchase with your Boca West membership card, credit
cards, or cash. The opening group, The Atlantic City Boys will appear
at 8 p.m and Aretha Franklin will take the stage at 9 p.m.
Q: Will there be a limit as to the amount of tickets sold
to the concert?
A: Yes, 2,000 will be sold. We want this to be a special night for
everyone so we must limit the ticket sales. Everyone who enters the golf
tournament is guaranteed one ticket and the opportunity to purchase
additional tickets. All Boca West members who purchase tickets by
March 7 will be guaranteed a seat, so buy as early as you can.
Q: Where do the proceeds to the golf tournament
and the concert go?
A: These events are being conducted and paid for by the Boca West
Foundation which is a community charitable organization made up
of members of Boca West County Club. All monies go to fund the 23
charity projects of which the Foundation funds to aid children
at risk and their families in the Boca Raton and South
Palm Beach County area. For more information
about the works of the Foundation please visit the
website at www.bocawestfoundation.org.
All of these great works are done in the name of Boca West
Country Club. This is not a Club function but the Foundation does
report activities that it carries out in the name of the Club to the
Board of Governors. If you wish to respond or comment directly to
the Foundation instead of the Board, please direct your comments
to foundation@bocawestcc.org.

Do you have a problem
or issue that needs to
be resolved regarding
our Country Club?
If so, that is where the
role of the Ombudsman
will be able to assist you.
In an organization

pleasant and cordial environment
by providing you with the
opportunity to be heard.
Should you have a problem or
issue with something that affects
you at Boca West Country Club,
please send me an email at
bpwellman@aol.com clearly
stating your situation. I will respond
to you as soon as I receive your
communication, and then pass on
your concern(s) to the appropriate
Committee Chairman. If a situation
has affected you in a negative way,
the Board of Governors wants
to know!
Please try to remember our staff
and management are always happy
to receive your complimentary
comments as well. It’s such a
pleasant feeling to hear: “Thank you
for a job well done”. I look forward
to being of assistance to you.
