This arrangement results in more even illumination even when scanning wrinkled or folded documents. They also provide for full RGB color duplex dropout with the DR-7580 as well as the DR-9080C. Color dropout is commonly used with forms to “drop-out” the form background for data processing. The reverse, RGB enhance is also provided to facilitate enhancing certain colors contained in a stamp or other critical color image data. Sensor Document Built-in Shading Adjustment Boards automatically activates to calibrate the sensors between every scanned batch, optimizing image output consistency. A “Smoothing” mode is available to reduce moiré and improve overall image quality as illustrated below. DR-5020/5080C Predecessor Model DR-7580/9080C Release Letter DR-7580/9080C With Smoothing 7 Version 2.0 June 2005 High Speed, High Volume Design By adopting CIS line sensor and on-board JPEG Compression; the color model DR-9080C scans at up to 90ppm in BW/Grayscale mode and 50ppm in Color mode, while the grayscale model DR7580 scans at up to 75ppm in BW/Grayscale scanning (A4/LTR Portrait, 200dpi). With a duty cycle of up to 10,000 pages per day, the DR-7580/9080C scanners were engineered by the same Canon standards that have earned us a solid reputation for reliable day-in day-out operation. With Canon’s unique feeding system, a wide range of mixed batches and other challenging work is handled with minimal operator intervention for optimized throughput. The high-capacity 500 sheet ADF can be operated in multiple modes (Manual or Automatic feeding mode) according to operator preference. A user selectable long document mode supports Black and White scanning of documents up to 39.4” in long. Compact Ergonomic Design Innovative hardware technology and space-saving design enable these new scanners to deliver powerful capabilities to environments with little room for hardware. Its compact design means that these units can fit comfortably in just about any workspace. Even the output stacking tray is specially designed and patented to be compact and yet accept a wide range of documents. Typical letter size office documents can be scanned faster if fed in landscape paper orientation Fujitsu fi-4860C (H: 20.6in, 99lb) Panasonic KV-SS905C (H: 16.34in, 114lb) 21.49in 20.67in Kodak i260 (H: 13.94in, 30.62) Without Flatbed 16.96in 11.29in DR-7580/9080C (H: 12.2in, 55lb) 460mm 20.47in 24.61in 24.69in Control Panel for Easy Operation Count Only / Verify Scan Modes In the count only mode, documents are fed through the scanner and the number of the documents is counted and displayed, they are not scanned. You can use the count only mode to count the number of documents and then use “Verify Scan” mode (to verify the number of documents scanned against the number of documents counted). You can also use the count only mode to count and endorse with the optional ED-600 attached. Bypass (Non-Separation) Mode The Bypass Mode is useful for multi-part forms or if the paper is thin or stuck together, such as multiple copies of shipping forms. In this mode the feeding system’s separation mechanism is disabled. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 8 Version 2.0 June 2005 Reliable Double-Feed Detection and Skew Detection The DR-7580/9080C offer two reliable methods for detecting document double feeds, i.e., ‘by Length’ and/or ‘by Ultrasonic.’ When the ‘Detect by Length’ option is selected, the scanner is set to memorize the document length of the very first document, and recognize thereafter as a double feed whenever the length of any of the following documents exceeds a length allowance from the memorized standard. The ‘Detect by Ultrasonic’ option can also be combined or independently selected for example if different sizes of documents are to be scanned. With this option, a pair of Ultrasonic Sensor units exchanges Ultrasonic waves to detect the gap, i.e. layer of air, if any, between double-fed papers, and signals a double feed occurrence for the scanner to stop scanning. The detection system works when a document overlaps by more than 2 inches. Ultrasonic emitter The DR-7580/9080C is equipped with Document Skew Sensors, which immediately detect large documents being fed at an angle, preventing the documents from tearing or jamming. Whenever a skewed document feeding is detected, scanning is temporarily stopped, followed by an error message alerting scanner operators. Ultrasonic sensor Patented Staple Detection Canon’s patented on-board Staple Detection feature automatically stops the scanning process whenever it detects an un-removed staple that could damage the device, or require jam clearing or exception scanning, that would negatively affect throughput rates. Undetected, such errors could compromise the document, or worse, cause the loss of critical information. This feature works when documents are stapled in normal position and has a user adjustable sensitivity range. When a stapled document is about to feed, the document lifts-up as illustrated. The sensors built-in on both sides of feeder detect this reaction as a stapled document. Staple Detection can not work in the following cases: • When documents are stapled at positions other than the 4 corners • When documents are A5 or smaller • When documents are stapled at 2 or more positions Unique MultiStream™ Capability File output options are greatly expanded to fit a wider range of applications with MultiStream™ technology, enabling users to generate multiple images simultaneously, in a variety of combinations, all from a single scan, i.e., color (DR-9080C only), black and white, grayscale, binary, R/G/B color dropout and even different resolutions. Now applications with multiple processing and archiving requirements can be scanned in one pass, with virtually no reduction in throughput speed. For instance, a form with legal retention requirements can be scanned and output in two “streams”; one with the full image for archive and one with color-dropout for data processing. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 9 Version 2.0 June 2005 Flexible Connectivity By incorporating both a high-speed USB 2.0 and SCSI-III interface, easy integration is ensured and installation is simplified. To utilize USB 2.0 the Windows® operating system must have native support for USB devices. USB is not supported by Windows® NT 4.0 or Windows® 95 operating systems. A High-speed USB 2.0 compatible PC built-in interface, or a recommended USB 2.0 interface card (see DR-7580/9080C Instruction Manual for recommended interface cards) and cable are required. On-board JPEG Compression The DR-7580/9080C has on-board, JPEG compression, accessible through the drivers, for fast image processing. The compression ratio settings are user-adjustable with the bundled utility application, CapturePerfect 3.0. Automatic Text Recognition/Rotation Another unique feature is automatic recognition of text orientation to correctly rotate the image. This feature is useful when scanning mixed batches of portrait and landscape images, and while there is a slight reduction in speed it can result in an overall higher throughput rate. Corrected images are sent to the application. Patch Code Detection Patch code sheets are sheets of paper, or preprinted forms on which a special pattern is printed so that files can be separated without interrupting the scanning operation. The DR-7580/9080C scanner recognizes the pattern on these sheets, which allows for efficient separation. A common application for patch codes are insurance claim forms, where each claim is a new batch and all the following supporting documents are part of that batch until the next claim form is detected. Patch code sheets are provided in PDF format upon installation of the drivers in four types, [PATCH II (A4)], [PATCH II (LTR)], [PATCH T (A4)], and [PATCH T(LTR)]. Both patch code patterns as shown below. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 10 Version 2.0 June 2005 Image Imprinting By using the “Image Add-On” function of the drivers (ISIS or TWAIN) a “soft” imprinter function is provided as a standard feature of the drivers. In many applications this can function much as a pre-scan imprint does. User Replaceable Rollers The feed rollers (pickup rollers, feed rollers, and retard rollers) are user-replaceable and have a life of 250,000 scans. If the total number of scanned documents exceeds 250,000, a message for roller replacement appears when you restart the computer. All three rollers come in the exchange roller kit available as an accessory item. NCR Paper Compatibility The composition of the rollers are resistant to the residue produced when scanning NCR forms. Energy Star Compliance As an ENERGY STAR partner, Canon has determined that this product meets the ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 11 Version 2.0 June 2005 CapturePerfect 3.0 Included with the DR-7580/9080C, as an out-of-box office-scanning tool, the CapturePerfect 3.0 application was designed to maximize the capabilities of the scanner in scanning, viewing, saving, distributing and printing office documents. CapturePerfect 3.0 is an ISIS-compliant application and is compatible with all the features and functionalities offered by the DR7580/9080C scanners. File Format Support CapturePerfect offers a variety of file saving options for converting office documents into electronic files. The scanned images can be saved in different output file formats (or ‘Types’), including TIFF (*.tif), BMP (*.bmp), JPEG (*. jpg), or PDF (*.pdf) files. Scanning Modes TIFF BMP PDF JPEG Binary Yes Yes Yes No 256-Level Grayscale Yes Yes Yes Yes 24-bit Color (DR-9080C only) Yes Yes Yes Yes Multi-page vs. Single-page File Format Multiple images can be saved into a single TIFF or PDF file (as ‘Multi-page’ file), or the pages can be separated as necessary into multiple single-image files (as ‘Single-page’ file). When the ‘Multi-page’ file scanning option is selected with a user-specified ‘number of pages’ per document or form, a sequential identification number is automatically generated for each file and appended to the shared portion of the file name that was initially given by the user to the batch before scanning. When the ‘Singlepage’ files are created, the system-generated numbers are always appended to the file name, or additional information such as scan settings can also be selectively included in the file names at the ‘Schema Settings’ dialog box. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 12 Version 2.0 June 2005 Scan Functions CapturePerfect provides users with a number of convenient ways to scan documents for a variety of business imaging needs. Scan Function Description Scan Page Documents are scanned only one page, i.e., one side of a document at a time. The scanned images can then be saved to a file, sent to a printer or discarded as necessary. Duplex scanning is not available with this option. Scan Batch to File In many cases, documents are scanned in batches, and the scanned images are saved either into Multipage file(s) per batch or separately into multiple Single-page files. Scan Batch to Printer As documents are scanned, the scanned data is sent directly to a printer for printing from the document images. The scanned images are not saved after scanning using this option. (Documents can also be printed in CapturePerfect from previously saved image files.) Scan Batch to Mail Users can also choose to send scanned images as file attachments to email messages. A MAPI (Microsoft Messaging Application Programming Interface) – compliant email client application program, for example, Microsoft® Outlook®, many popular Internet email applications, or Lotus Notes®, is required on the computer. As with the ‘Scan Batch to Printer’ option, the scanned images are not saved on the PC after scanning. Scan to Presentation The projector connected to the PC displays scanned images in this mode when page after page is loaded on the Paper Feed Tray and scanned during business presentations. Scanned images can optionally be saved when the presentation is closed. Scan Job ‘Scan Jobs’ can be pre-registered for routine scan operations or other frequently repeated scan sessions using the same scanning conditions. ‘Scan to Mail,’ ‘Scan to Print,’ and ‘Scan to PC’ operations are available as different types of the Scan Job, and a total of up to 99 Jobs can be registered. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 13 Version 2.0 June 2005 Image File Editing Functions CapturePerfect offers a variety of post-scan image editing capabilities. For example: • Brightness/contrast on output images can be adjusted to enhance the image quality. • New pages, whether from scanning new documents or from an existing image file, can be inserted anywhere in the middle or appended to the end of existing image files once scanned and saved with CapturePerfect. • Pages can be replaced with new pages, extracted and saved into another file, or permanently deleted as necessary. • Until any changes are saved, the editing operations can be canceled (“Undo”) or reapplied (“Redo”). • Part of or the entire displayed image can be selected, as illustrated below, with a rectangle selection below, and then copied onto the clipboard. • Multiple files can be combined into a single file. Insert/Add Image Function Image Copy Function DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 14 Version 2.0 June 2005 Image Display Functions CapturePerfect offers multiple display options to view scanned images. Thumbnail View of Images When the ‘Thumbnail’ display option is selected, the thumbnail (reduced) views of opened or scanned images are displayed in the ‘“Thumbnail’” window on the left pane of the screen, and the selected thumbnail is displayed in the main ‘Image View’ window on the right side of the screen. The images in the ‘Thumbnail’ window can be ‘dragged and dropped’ at the users’ convenience to be displayed in desired order. This display option helps users to easily navigate through piles of document images, for example, to locate a specific page of interest. Split View of Images Users may choose to split the image display window into two or four windows to view more than a single image at a time. Scanning operations can be performed while this ‘Split View’ feature is enabled; other image display functions, such as image magnification, reduction or rotation, are independently applied to each image displayed in each window. The ‘Thumbnail Display’ option can also be combined with this ‘Split View’ feature. Full-Screen View of Images Images can be viewed at full screen for business presentations or on any other image display/exhibit occasion. While in this viewing mode, image display tools (Brightness, Zoom, Rotate, Page Navigation, Thumbnail, etc.) become available when the users right-click anywhere on the currently displayed full screen image. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 15 Version 2.0 June 2005 Unique MultiStream™ Capability File output options are greatly expanded to fit a wider range of applications with flexible MultiStream™ technology, enabling users to generate multiple images simultaneously, in a variety of combinations, all from a single scan, i.e., color, black and white, grayscale, binary, R/G/B color dropout and even different resolutions. Now applications with multiple processing and archiving requirements can be scanned in one pass, with virtually no reduction in throughput speed. For instance, a form with legal retention requirements can be scanned and output in two “streams”; one with the full color image for archive and one black-and-white with color-dropout for data processing. MultiStream™ is a trademark of Pixel Translations (a division of Captiva Software Corp). Note: When the MultiStream™ feature is used, the automatic batch separation functions of the DR-7580/9080C cannot be used. DR-7580/9080C Release Letter 16 Version 2.0 June 2005 Searchable PDF File Format Support When documents are scanned into PDF file format in CapturePerfect, the printed character strings within the documents, can be recognized and saved as text data attached to the PDF output files. The output PDF files with the embedded OCR text then become “searchable” by a string of text as the search ‘keyword,’ similar to using the Windows ® built-in Search tool. The text contained in these ‘Searchable PDF’ files can also be extracted and copied over into other text application files such as Microsoft® Word® files. PDF File Security When scanning with CapturePerfect, security-sensitive documents can be scanned into PDF file format and password-protected from unauthorized user access for opening, editing or printing. The PDF files can be encrypted either at 40-bit (‘RC3’ standard) or 128-bit (‘RC4’ standard) encryption levels, depending on the security requirements and nature of image files. This security functionality is increasingly important to businesses with industry specific government compliance initiatives.
