2016 U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP CordeValle, San Martin, Calif. MEDIA NOTES Tuesday, June 28 EXEMPTION – Julia Engstrom, Sweden FIELD ADDITION – Kotone Hori, Japan Julia Engstrom, 15, of Sweden, has earned a full exemption into the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open Championship by winning the 2016 Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship at Dundonald Links in Scotland. Engstrom, the youngest winner in the event’s 113-year history, defeated Dewi Weber of the Netherlands with a par on the first extra hole. Additionally, winners of LPGA co-sponsored events from the conclusion of the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open to the start of the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open are exempt into the championship. As Lydia Ko, winner of last week’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, is already exempt into the U.S. Women’s Open, Kotone Hori, the first alternate from the Japan qualifying site, has been added to the championship field.
