Salem Recreation Department Summer Programs 2016 Town Hall, 33 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH (603) 890-2140 www.townofsalemnh.org SUMMER TIME ACTIVITIES AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION The Recreation Department will begin accepting registrations for Salem residents beginning April 27 from 8:30am to 4:30pm at the Recreation Department. Please remember our program space is limited and registrations are on a first come first serve basis. Provided space is available, we will accept registrations for non-residents beginning May 9. ON-LINE REGISTRATIONS will be available on May 2 by clicking the online r egistration link under the Recreation Department. You will be able to pay via credit card online. When registering at the Recreation Department, we accept cash or check, unfortunately no credit cards. Please note: the registration deadline is at least two days prior to the first class unless otherwise marked. Our office is located in the lower level of the Town Hall. Our summer hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm. If you are planning on visiting us, you may want to call 890-2140 prior to coming in to ensure someone is available to assist you. Proof of residency is required while registering for the resident rate. Non-residents are assessed an additional $10.00 non-resident registration fee. You must pay the registration fee to be registered for a program. The Town charges an additional $25.00 fee for every check that is returned. Parents need to register their own children. No telephone registrations will be accepted. No refunds unless the Recreation Department cancels the program. The Recreation Department establishes a minimum and maximum number of registrants for each class. If the minimum size is not reached, the class will be canceled and the registration fee will be returned. *Please note that due to m eetings, trainings or other activities, the Recreation Department may be closed at times. ROCK’N SUMMER FUN PROGRAM FOR 6 TO 10 YEAR OLDS A very popular 7-week children’s summer program will run at the Barron School beginning Monday, June 20th thru Friday, August 5th. The program includes theme weeks, activities, games, arts and crafts, field trips, etc. Together with the Recreation Department and our enthusiastic staff, children will enjoy lots of activities and games. The program runs 5 days per week from 9:00am to 12:30pm, Monday thru Friday with most field trips running on Wednesday’s from 9:00am to 3:30pm (weather permitting). Included in the cost is the daily activities at the school, special events, crafts and more. Please note: additional fees will be required for the weekly field trips if your child attends. (Registration deadline is June 13). Program schedule is subject to change. 1 child Fee: $299 2 children (same family, same household) Fee: $449 3 or more children (same family, same household) Fee: $549 Create & Discover Offers Childcare Before and After Our Summer Fun Program For the past few years, we have heard that people would be interested in signing up for our Summer Fun Program, but it is too difficult to transport their child to and/or from the camp during the day. We have once again partnered with Create & Discover who will offer full time care for children ages 6-10 starting the week of June 14th-17th ($140.00) before the start of our program on June 20th. Availability throughout the summer is a before camp option starting at 7:00 AM and a after camp care option till 5:30 PM for those parents whose children are enrolled in the Summer Fun Program. The cost for this program will be $95.00 per week. Also available will be full time care the week of August 8th-12th ($140.00) and August 15th-19th ($140.00). Registration forms will be available at the Recreational Department or by e-mailing Create & Discover at createandiscover@gmail.com ADVENTURE CAMP PROGRAM FOR 11 TO 15 YEAR OLDS This adventure based program is a field trip activity program. Each week the participants will have 2 or 3 activities to various area locations inclusive of laser tag, deep sea fishing, water country, hiking, Mel’s Funway, a baseball game and many others. There are no set times for this program as they will depend on the activity or trip. There is a minimum of 2 activities each week. Most of the activities will cost extra. (Registration Deadline: 6/13) Fee: $35 plus field trip fees TENNIS LESSONS - Learn or improve your game by taking 7-weeks of lessons. Lessons are held at Michele Memorial Park (190 Lawrence Rd). Lesson times are by ability and age. If you have questions prior to registration, we will assist you. If there is an inclement weather day, the instructor will try to make up the class. Class times may be modified dependent on enrollments. Lessons take priority over open play at Michele Memorial Park. (Register by 6/16). Fee: $109 Top Secret Science open to children grades K to 5 at the Fisk Elementary School. Participants will do over 100 hands-on experiments of which 50 are make and take home projects! The program will run July 25– July 29 from 9:00am-3:00PM. Max 40 Participants. For additional information go to their website http://www.topsecretscience.com/. Resident Fee: $140 Non-resident: $150 Tuesday & Thursday Lessons–June 21 to August 4 8:00-9:00am Introduction (12 to 17 yrs.) 9:00-10:00am Advanced beginners (12 to 17 yrs.) 10:00-11:00am Intermediate (12 to 17yrs.) 11:00 to 12:00 Advanced (12 to 17 yrs.) ADULT SPORTS PROGRAM Adult Lessons– 4 week Program (choice of ONE session per week)– Mon. 6:30-8:00PM (Beginners), Tues. 6:30-8:00PM (Intermediate), OR Sat. (Advanced) 9:00-10:30AM An Adults Sports Program will be beginning in August for Ages 18+. Each month, the Recreation Department will be hosting a different sports activity for our residents to participate in. Sign up on AdminSports.com or by stopping by the Recreation Office. Participants can register for one, two, or all three sessions taking place in August, September, and October. Starts Wednesday, August 10th. Begins June 20th Fee: $65/person ARCHERY IN MOTION - Register for classes! Archery In Motion, LLC brings you the opportunity to participate in Olympic Style Archery. Learn about the many aspects of archery from the safety components to the actual shooting of the bow. The bows used in the program are of a light draw weight. The targets used are set to varied distances depending on ability. This will give ALL archers a sense of accomplishment and achievement. “Shooting the bow improves hand-eye co-ordination, increases upper body strength and challenges the mind. Shooting concentration, self-confidence and self-image are enhanced due to the simplicity, and yet complexity of the sport.” Classes will be held at Walmart Multipurpose Field and is for participants ages 7 to 107 years old. Registration Deadline: July 18th Friday’s July 22, 29, 5 and Aug. 12 9:00-11:00am Fee: $65 LEGO ENGINEERING CAMP This camp, for children in grades 1-5, will be held at the Fisk Elementary School and includes STEM-based challenges and free building— two things kids love. Kids will build mechanisms that incorporate gears, flywheels and cams to build amazing contraptions. We’ll crank up the fun as kids use their creativity to build with LEGO’s in problem solving challenges. (Register by 7/11). July 18-22 9:00-Noon Fee: $170 Deadline: Friday, August 5th August Session: Ultimate Frisbee Program, Wednesdays 6:00-7:30PM September Session: Soccer Program, Wednesdays 6:00-7:30PM October Session: Flag Football Program, Wednesdays 6:00-7:30PM Cost: $25/session/resident, $35/session/non-resident $55/3 sessions/resident, $80/3 sessions/non-resident KARATE—Beginner Karate training helps children build strength and flexibility, provides them opportunity to learn forms and self-defense and helps children to focus. Karate runs for 4-weeks in July at Salem Kenpo Academy (224 No. Broadway, Unit 2B). Registered participants need to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Classes are held on Friday’s from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. For children ages 4 to 14. HEDGEHOG PARK (Lowell Road, Rt. 38) includes a pond, picnic tables, a play area and a skate park (skateboarders must wear a helmet). NO swimming is allowed when lifeguards are not on duty. ACTIVITIES & SCHEDULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE. Swimming at Hedgehog Park will start for the season on May 28. A parking pass will be required and available for purchase beginning May 16. Season passes can be purchased at the Recreation Department. Day passes can be purchased at the park. Proof of residency is required when purchasing parking passes. Hedgehog Park hours: Sunday Noon to 6:30pm Day: $5 Non resident parking fees ginning Monday, June 29. Swim lessons are held 2-days per week: Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday. June 20 to August 4 Fee: $39 If there is inclement weather for the scheduled class, the make-up date will be held on Friday the same week as the lesson. Level 1 & 2 – 30 minutes 1:00pm to 1:30pm Level 3 & 4 – 30 minutes 2:00pm to 2:30pm Level 5 & 6 – 45 minutes 3:00pm to 3:45pm * Depending on enrollment numbers, these times may be modified slightly. Monday to Saturday 11:00am to 6:30pm, Resident parking fees SWIMMING LESSONS. Lessons will run for 7-weeks be- Season: $25 Day: $10 Season: $50 Art Fun! For Children and Adults The Rec. Dept. is running a summer art program for children and adults for 4 sessions at Fun Art Inc. located at 13 Cindy Avenue. Children projects will range from painting name signs and fish tanks, while adult projects include, serving trays, coat racks, and welcome signs. Participants can sign up on a weekly basis for $17/week. Program dates: July 5th, 12th, 26th, & Aug. 2nd- Children classes begin @ 1:00PM, Adult classes begin @ 6:00PM Town Forest News… You can purchase a NH Fun Pass Booklet here. These booklets are full of coupons to attractions at over 100 places in and around New Hampshire including amusement parks (including Canobie Lake Park), zoos, museums, ski mountains and more. Salem’s Town Forest has planned a combined Clean-Up, starting at 9:00AM, and a Guided Trail Walk starting at 1:00PM on Saturday, June 4th to coincide with ‘National Trail Day’ located at 66 Shadow Lake Road. Please stop by to assist with the clean-up and enjoy the outdoors while walking some of Salem’s beautiful trails. The classes focus on the unique development of 3 and 4 year old children. Classes run September thru June on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (9 months) 9:00am to noon. The Field of Dreams Summer Concert Series is scheduled Thursday evenings (weather permit- ting) beginning 6:30pm on July 7 and ending on August 18. Two Saturday concerts will take place this summer beginning at 2:00pm on July 16 and July 30. Concerts are FREE! A 50-50 raffle is held at each concert during intermission and the monies go toward the maintenance of the park. Bring your blanket/chair, bug spray, and prepare for a good time.
