Saturday is the main event, hosted by Food Network star Sunny Anderson. Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s Carnivale du Vin takes place at the Hyatt Regency New
Orleans for 700 black tie guests celebrating friends, superb wine and great food. The night begins with a G.H. Mumm Champagne reception, followed by the
Bacchus Reception featuring Far Niente Winery. Emeril’s signature five-course dinner is served with wine parings from Arista Winery, Crocker & Starr Winery,

INSIDERS ABREU: A DAY WITH THE KING MIDAS OF WINE
Early on, it was all about the vineyards. Making wine didn’t happen until 1986, when David Abreu tried his hand with a few barrels of Cabernet from
Madrona Ranch. He never released the wine. He’d always heard the first release can make or break you, and the ‘86 just wasn’t good enough. So ‘87
was the first Abreu wine David sold. That’s how it all began. A close observer, David had the opportunity to learn from some of the best. Winemakers
who understood, as he did, that it was all about the vineyards, the soils, the fruit. As for the winemaking, he got a lot of advice, listened to it all, and then
carved his own path. Made wine the way he thought it should be made. Some people shook their heads. Wondered why he went to such lengths. But it’s
the same approach he takes in the vineyards. He just does what he feels, in his gut, is right. He’s done it that way for 30 years now.

SPECTACULAR SHAFER!
30-YEAR VERTICAL
Shafer Vineyards traces its beginnings to 1972 when John Shafer left a 23-year career in the publishing industry and, with his family, moved to the Napa
Valley to pursue a second career in wine. After purchasing a 210-acre estate in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District, the Shafer family faced the arduous
task of replanting the existing vineyards, which dated to the 1920s, and terracing the steep and rocky hillsides, eventually expanding vineyard acreage to
its current 50 acres. Evolving from grape growers to vintners, the Shafers crushed their first Cabernet grapes in 1978 and began construction on their
winery a year later.
The first Shafer Cabernet became a benchmark, winning the acclaimed San Francisco Vintners Club taste-off upon release and, over a decade later
taking first place in an international blind tasting held in Germany, where it outranked such wines as Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour and Chateau
Palmer.

SPRING MOUNTAIN VINEYARD
The new Spring Mountain Vineyard was once three separate properties each with its own vineyard and winery: Spring Mountain Vineyards (Miravalle)
257 acres, Chateau Chevalier (Chevalier) 120 acres, and Draper Vineyards (La Perla) 435 acres.
The upper most property on the estate, La Perla, was founded in 1873 by Charles Lemme and expanded by the Schilling Spice family. Originally 285
acres, it had the first Cabernet Sauvignon planted on Spring Mountain. The old winery remains today along with much of its original equipment and
horse drawn carriages and wagons. Immediately below La Perla, and eventually added to it was the first vineyard planted by Fredrick and Jacob Beringer
in 1882. These terraced hillsides were planted in a wide assortment of grape varieties to support the Beringer brothers fledgling winery.
Adjoining to the north of the Beringer vineyard was a Frenchman, Fortune Chevalier, whose stone winery, Chateau Chevalier, was making wine in 1891.
And finally, next door to Chevalier was Tiburcio Parrott who grew olives, citrus and grapes. Parrott built a grand home on the estate which he named
Miravalle.
