Williamstown High School April Fools Issue 2016 BIG Changes Ahead Inside: 2 JROTC Ball by Jessica Olson 3 4 Williamstown High School administration is planning to make some big changes at WHS. Starting in May, construction will begin for an indoor swimming pool! The pool will be 50 m x 20 m and open for the swim team and gym classes to use. A swimming portion will be added to all gym classes. Swimming is a great exercise that strengthens all of your muscles compared to specialized areas while doing other activities. It will also give students a chance to try swimming before joining the swim team. The swimming pool will also be available to athletes to help muscle soreness and injuries. The parking issues may be a problem for some students, however, the benefits of having a swimming pool at WHS will be good for our students. Plans are being discussed for designating a new student parking lot and rumors are floating that Owen’s park parking lot will be the new location. Keep your eyes out for information coming soon about keeping your parking spot at WHS and in the meantime, start planning different ways to get to school! The new pool will be built in the theater parking lot. In order to keep some parking available to students, administration has agreed to leave 50 parking spots at $50 each. Seniors with senior option will have first pick for these spots, then the left over spots will become available on a first come first serve basis. Students who have used their parking spot all year will not be refunded for the last month of school. April Fools ; ) Because of the demolition of the parking lot, most current student drivers will not be able to drive to school starting in May. Construction is expected to be finished in late 2017, so parking spots will be limited until another parking arrangement is confirmed. Motivational Quotes Comic Strip Horoscopes Students of the Month ? When did April Fool's Day Start? Around 1582 in France, there was a reform of the calendar under Charles IX. This Gregorian Calendar changed New Year to January 1, instead of new year's week of March 25-April 1. In protest, some people in France continued to celebrate on the last day of the former celebration (April 1). Those people were called "fools", they were sent fake invitations to parties, and had other practical jokes played on them. This tradition of pranks and jokes spread in the 18th century. The night began with the Senior Walk. Each senior in JROTC entered the venue to their choice of music while Major Rock said a few words about each of them. It was an upbeat opening to an awesome night. The POW/MIA remembrance was beautiful as well. The Prisoner Of War/ Missing in Action remembrance is where we honor those in the Air Force who are missing but not forgotten. NEW The food at Military Ball was delightful, however, except for one gross menu item. Any cadets or guests who broke any rules at the Military Ball were ordered to drink a strange concoction called the Grog. Some people actually enjoyed the Grog, including Codie Vallies, who was lucky enough to drink 6 cups of it! The night concluded with dancing and having fun with friends. Military Ball is definitely an excellent event to attend every year!
