Come and participate in the very first Summit Camporee! The cost is $25 per person, which includes all camping and activity fees throughout the weekend. Activities include ziplining, rock
climbing, and mountain biking with a ton of other exciting programs! Don't miss the very first
Summit Camporee 2016!
Activities- Zip Lining, Rock Climbing, Skateboarding, Mountain Biking- skateboards may be
brought by participants, but bicycles are not permitted. All sorts of other activities including the
Sustainability Treehouse, boating, STEM programming, and catapult!
This activity is open to all Boy Scouts and all Venture Crew Members who will be able to participate in the activities offered. There is not an age restriction on any of the activities or the camporee, but the participant must be enrolled as a Boy Scout or Venture Crew Member. THIS IS
NOT A CUB SCOUT OR WEBELOS ACTIVITY.
Cost: $25 per person attending, Leaders as well as Scouts. The deadline for on-time registration is April 22, 2016. At this time the fee will increase to $40. This is to allow for proper planning and site coordination. This fee covers all activities for the weekend. Units are required to
provide their own food, tentage, and camping equipment.
Registration is now open and all units must register online. Go to www.buckskin.org for more
information and to register.
One person, the UNIT COORDINATOR, should be responsible for the entire unit’s head
count and payment. Your “Reservation” will be under this person’s name.
You can add to the number of participants in your group at any time up until April 22 at the $25
fee. After April 22, 2016 the fee increases to $40. For consistency, please have the UNIT COORDINATOR make all reservations in the system.
Payment may be made online with PayPal, any major credit card, or be mailed with the online
printed application form completed to the Buckskin Council Service Center. In order to be processed at the $25 fee all payments must be in the office no later than April 25, 2016. Failure to
pay prior to arriving onsite will result in the late registration fee of $40 per participant.
All forms must be completed by each participant. The necessary forms are available at
www.buckskin.org and will be emailed to the UNIT COORDINATOR after Online Registration is complete. Forms include the Personal Registration Sheet, Scout Medical Form part A
and B, as well as the Summit Waiver.
Dear Scouters,
The following is a portion of an article from 2013. It stems from a meeting I had with district and council
volunteers.
One thing that totally surprised me occurred during a discussion about obstacles that impede leaders from delivering a quality
program. It was with a very experienced volunteer leader whom I will call Bill (to protect his identity). The conversation went
something like this.
Bill: “Jeff, do you realize that many unit leaders think that you as the Scout Executive are unapproachable””.
Me: “Why would they think that? I am very approachable. Bill, you know me. I will talk to anyone who wants to talk about
Scouting”.
Bill: “Well yes Jeff, now that I have become active on the district and council level and I know you better, I agree that you are very approachable. But before I met you, and from what I had heard in the district previously, and what I had observed at the council office in the past, I did not think I had access
to you as the Scout Executive”.
Me. “I have a hard time understanding how that can be. I have leaders and parents talking to me all of the time at the Scout Service Center. Many just
walk right to my office and strike up a conversation”.
Bill. “That may be true, but Jeff, I can honestly tell you that many leaders out in the districts and the units do not feel they have access to you”.
Three years ago my strategy to address the misconception that I was not approachable was to invite all volunteer leaders to have a
sack lunch with me and talk about anything they desired. Although in theory it was a great plan, I only got a couple takers. Fast
forward three years, I am going to try it again, and I have a bigger carrot to offer! All Buckskin Council volunteers can
“BYOL” (bring your own lunch) and join me for lunch at the new H. Bernard Wehrle Sr. Scout Leadership Service Center on Thursday, May 5 at 12 noon. We will have just restarted administrative and Scout Shop operations the day before, so you
will have to excuse the dust, mess, and confusion that comes from moving, but what a great opportunity to get into the new building, have candid conversation with me, and get an unofficial tour of the facilities. Unofficial because we will have a dedication ceremony later this year, which I also hope you will attend.

Volunteers are the heart of Scouting and in the Buckskin Council we have a group who quietly serve you
by making sure the newsletters and other key communications are prepared, labeled and mailed. It is important to let our
leaders know who these folks are so you can thank them when you see them.
The person who leads the charge is Bonnie Starling! The February Courier helpers were Bonnie Starling, Art Altman,
Phil Gaarenstroom, Carleton Starr, Vickie Jordan, Grace An Tolbert, and Kermit Tolbert. We always look forward to seeing
these volunteers in the council office.
The Newsletter is folded on the last Tuesday of each month, between August and May, starting around 8:30 am and
ending around noon. If you would like to join this great group of people, call the Scout Service Center at 304-340-3663 and
let us know. We would greatly appreciate your help!!!!

The Buckskin Council has an entry level executive position
open.
The District Executive is an integral part of delivering the Scouting program to youth in our communities.
The Professional Scouter Should:
Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university
Must become a registered member of the BSA
Have attained age 21 unless prohibited by any applicable law
Be people-oriented, having the ability to work well with adult
volunteers, community and business leaders, and representatives of other organizations
Be able to work varied hours when necessary to achieve positive objectives
Believe in the BSA and subscribe to its principles and standards
Successfully complete the BSA's online Selection Research Interview (SRI)

David W. Lanham
David Lanham has over 40 years of
experience in the financial services industry. He co-founded
Lanham O’Dell & Company (LOC) in 1981. This 1964 graduate of the University of Charleston played a key role nationally in the emerging financial planning profession during the
1980’s. He provided leadership to both the Financial Planning Association, serving as President of the West Virginia
Chapter, and also served as a member of the Institute of
Certified Financial Planners in the state during that time.
David was recognized in Money Magazine in 1987 as one of
the “Top 200 Financial Planners in America.” Presently, he
is providing investment advice to clients of the firm, regionally and nationally.
Over the years, he has shared his talents, time and
treasure with the Buckskin Council, Boy Scouts of America.
His volunteer service during this time has impacted the lives
of hundreds of thousands of youth and their families. His
time and service has been as a Council President, Board Officer and the Vice President of Fund Development for the
Buckskin Council.
David continues to provide leadership to charitable
projects of interest, something he has been doing his entire
career, focusing on organizations that promote character
development.

Guest Speakers
Don Nehlen
Donald Eugene Nehlen, West Virginia
University football coach, was born in Canton,
Ohio, January 1, 1936. He played high school football and
lost only three games as a starting quarterback at Bowling
Green State University. He coached his alma mater to some
of its best records before becoming an assistant at Michigan
in 1977. From there, in 1980 he came to WVU, which had
only one winning season in the previous six.
The most successful football coach in West Virginia University’s first century, Nehlen is one of the 20 most
winning coaches nationally. Nehlen retired
from WVU football and coaching after the team’s 49-38
victory over Mississippi in the December 2000 Music City
Bowl. Nehlen’s overall coaching record was 202 wins, 128
losses and eight ties. His record at WVU was 149-93-4. Don
Nehlen was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame
in 2005.
Robert L. “Bob” Pruett
Robert Lewis "Bob" Pruett is a former American football player and coach. He
served as the head football coach Marshall University for nine seasons, from 1996 to 2004. During his tenure at Marshall, the Marshall Thundering Herd football team compiled a record of 94–23 (.803 winning percentage), completed two undefeated seasons, won six conference championships, won five of seven bowl games
played, and captured the NCAA Division I-AA Football
Championship in 1996. In 1999, he was inducted into the
Marshall University Athletics Hall of Fame for his collegiate
career in football, track and field, and wrestling.
Pruett is a native of Beckley, West Virginia and was
a star football player, wrestler, and sprinter at Woodrow
Wilson High School. He attended Marshall University in
Huntington, West Virginia. After graduation in 1965 he
signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys and later
played five seasons with a semi-pro team in Virginia. Pruett
earned his first collegiate coaching job in 1979 as the defensive line coach for his alma mater, Marshall University. In
1981, he became the defensive backs coach and defensive
coordinator for the Herd until the end of the 1982 season.
In 1996 he became head coach at Marshall University.

Wilderness First Aid Training
Wilderness First Aid, including CPR/AED training is
being offered April 22-23, 2016 at Camp Arrowhead. This
training is required for backcountry trips and excursions.
(Backcountry is defined as anywhere that medical care is one
hour or more away.) Class size is limited to 20 and the registration deadline is April 14 by 4:00 pm. Participants are responsible for their own meals although we will provide a
cracker barrel Friday night and continental breakfast Saturday
morning. Time will be permitted to run out to local restaurants.

Do you teach your Scouts skills using E.D.G.E.?
Get your own training done completely including
“Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills” (IOLS) so you
have the tools to do your job, as well as resources to make
your job easier. EDGE is the key to teaching all ages. Insure
your Youth Leadership team has made every effort to attend
NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) to learn how to
use it, as well as other key skills that can make a world of difference in the Troop. The Buckskin Council NYLT course is
June 12-18th. Youth spend the week at camp learning leadership skills. It is also a prerequisite to be eligible for the next
step of National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience
(NAYLE) at the Summit. These are LIFE-CHANGING
courses with skill sets to set them up for college, careers and
more. All food is included in the price as well as the professionally designed courses.

may be the first time some youth are away from home, to
learn how to take care of themselves and work as a team.
Cub Day Camp is important to put the FUN in the program!
A week of Boy Scout Camp gives youth a leadership and
team experience while catching up on MANY merit badges!
Help the Council provide a top notch experience by supporting our camps and getting the youth to go! Use our own
Council Camps, there are many programs for variety and older youth can add a Summit experience on top of the troop
participation they do all in one.
How is YOUR unit doing in plans to be 100% trained?
The unit leader (& Key Three) can validate to see
who needs it! Spring is here, so it’s a good time to schedule a
training session that takes care of all your needs and with
“BLT to GO” (Basic Leader Training) we can come to you! A
new training on the new Boy Scout program changes that just
took effect as of Jan 2016 & has some changes we can share!

ONLINE TRAINING:
E-Learning training courses are available to take
online at My.Scouting.org. Go to My.Scouting.org and sign
in or create an account. (Remember your user name & password!) The Training courses can be found by selecting the
Home button in the upper left corner, then My Dashboard in
the menu list. It now defaults to the My.Scouting from the
old online address and is enhanced, providing courses you
need for your specific position, Youth Protection Training
(20 min course), requirements to be fully trained, and what
has been completed. PRINT or save the certificate as you
complete courses for filing. You will need the YPT certificate
to register in the program or re-charter if not current in
Youth Protection (YPT) online. Anyone not having current
Youth Protection training will not be registered on the charter!. YPT expires every 2 years!
College of Commissioner Science
At Cedar Lakes Conference Center, Ripley, WV
Our major commissioner training event is Commissioner College, which is on April 16 at Cedar Lakes Conference Center, near Ripley, WV. We join four other councils to
put on this training event, which follows a College format.
The 3-hour basic training course for Unit Commissioner will
be offered, as well as advanced courses. This training event is
of a high quality and is both educational and motivational.
This year's host council is Ohio River Valley Council.
Look on the Buckskin Council website for additional
information and a link to the College’s registration page.
Lunch on Saturday has to be reserved separately with Cedar
Lakes Conference Center using the Lodging and Meals form.
Some optional activities also happen on Friday evening and
Sunday morning, so some commissioners stay for the weekend.

2017 Boy Scout National
Jamboree
The 2017 National Jamboree will be July 19
through July 28th at the Summit Bechtel
Reserve in Glen Jean, WV. We will be sending 5 troops
and a full Venture crew. The fee for the 2017 National
Jamboree is $1,250. which is the same fee as for the last
Jamboree. The National Fee has gone up, but your Jamboree committee is working very hard to keep the fee the
same for Buckskin Council participants.
Youth and adults seeking a place in the council’s
contingent must complete the on-line application and submit an initial payment of $175 to the council. To register
on-line, you must have a My.Scouting.org username and
password. The My.Scouting account needs to be in the
name of the person attending the Jamboree, not the
parent/guardian that is completing the application for a
youth participant. The My.Scouting account you use
should also be linked to your current BSA membership
number. The youth and adult participant applications for
the 2017 National Scout Jamboree are available at the following website:

Once the on-line application is completed, an
email will be sent to the primary email address entered on
the application confirming the data entered. A copy of
this email should accompany the applicant’s initial payment. Payments can be made at the Charleston Service
Center or mailed to: Buckskin Council, 3601 MacCorkle
Ave. SE, Charleston, WV 25301.
The initial payment of $175 for the 2017 National
Jamboree for council participants is due immediately. All
youth and adult participants must pay an additional $400
by July 15, 2016.

Philmont is the Boy Scouts of America’s Ultimate
High Adventure Base. Located in the Sangre de Cristo
Mountains of Northeastern New Mexico, Philmont offers
over 137,000 acres of pure excitement and fun. Since 1938,
Scouts from all over the world have hiked its rugged trails,
rambled through its stands of aspens and ponderosa pine
trees, and scaled its lofty peaks.
Philmont is a once in a lifetime experience. You can
be among those lucky enough to share in this adventure.
You will embark on a 14 day expedition where you and your
crew will journey through many parts of the world’s largest
scout camp. Buckskin Council is sending a contingent of 24
Scouts, Venturers, and Scouters to Philmont in the summer
of 2016. There are still a few spaces left. Pick up applications at the Charleston Service Center, the Huntington

National Youth Leadership Training
(NYLT)
WHAT: NYLT is a week-long course that gives Boy Scouts,
Varsity Scouts and Venturers the methods, skills and experiences to become better leaders in their unit. The course centers around the concepts of what a leader must be, what
he/she must know, and what he/she must do.
WHO: Participants must hold or intend to hold a unit leadership position to be eligible for the course, and satisfy the
following requirements:
 Boy Scouts/Varsity Scouts must be at least 13 yrs old and
First Class rank by the first day of the course, but not
over 18 yrs old.
 Venturers (male or female), must be at least 14 ys old and
registered in a Venturing Crew or Sea Scout Ship but not
over 21 yrs old.
WHEN: June 12 to 17, 2016…a week of resident camp (they
stay on-site)
WHERE: Camp Chief Logan, Chapmanville, WV
HOW: Pre-register by contacting the Scout Service Center

Cost: $190 per participant which includes the course,

Cub Scout Summer Camp Program
Cub Scout Day Camp, Webelos Weekend, and Cub Scout Resident Camp are some of the highlights of the Cub Scout Program!
The Cub Scout Summer Camp Program is a great opportunity to deliver the promise of Scouting to all of our Cub Scouts! Please
contact your District Executive to learn about all of the opportunities to volunteer at your local camp.
Cub Scout Day Camp fees are $55.00 per participant if registered and paid online before May 15th, 2016 and $65 after May 15th,
2016.
Webelos Weekend is $35 per person attending.
Cub Scout Resident is $75 per Cub Scout and $40 per adult.

Wilderness Rangers
July 25 - July 30, 2016
The 2016 Wilderness Rangers Trek is recruiting now!
Wilderness Rangers is open to Scouts ages 14 to 18 who have
attained the rank of First Class, with Scoutmaster’s recommendation.
We will visit Traveller’s Repose, the site of the Battle of Greenbrier River. This was one of the earliest battles of the Civil War.
Experience the battle through the eyes of historian W. Hunter
Lesser. See the old Confederate cemetery; feel Minie balls and
cannonballs from the era. Also learn about Electro-fishing,
raptors, poisonous snakes, and trapping. Wilderness Rangers
will visit the Greenbank Observatory, Cass Scenic Railroad,
Droop Mountain Battlefield, and Cranberry Glades.
Cost of trek: $100 ($50 deposit must accompany the application)
Registration deadline is July 17, 2016. Since the trek is limited
to 24 scouts there is usually a waiting list. Sign up today!

will be permitted to run out to local restaurants.
*Wilderness First Aid is required for backcountry trips and
excursions. Backcountry is defined as anywhere that medical
care is one hour or more away.

Summit Camporee hosted by Buckskin Council
The Summit Camporee this year will be held for the first time
at the Summit! This is an amazing opportunity to get our WV
Troops to the site and we need your help to make it great! The
registration fee is only $25. For youth or adult & ANY Council
can bring their unit to this! With climbing, mountain biking,
skateboarding, zip lines & Sustainability Tree house open.
Add fishing and kayaking, plus District competitions…to make
it awesome! We’re doing parking, troop guides, roaming staff,
safety, and medical. The lodge has agreed to help staff the
event and we need your help to make this happen! Please email

Conclave
This year’s section C4-B conclave will be held May 13-15 at
Camp Katooga in Parkersburg, WV. The theme for the weekend is “insert theme here”, meaning that it is up to the lodges
to create their own theme. If you have any ideas for themes,
please send them to any of the lodge officers. Registration will
be up soon, so look for the link in the near future!
Spring Fellowship
This year, the lodge will be hosting an ordeal at every lodge
fellowship throughout the year! At Spring Fellowship April
15-17 at Camp Arrowhead, ($15 by April 12th, $20 after that)
We will also have the first ordeal of the 2016 year! As always,
we will also have a Vigil Selection meeting. Most of the camp’s
activities will be open as well.
Fellowships
At every fellowship this year, there will also be an ordeal! This
means that there will be more opportunities for prospective
arrowmen to join our lodge. Furthermore, these weekends are
spread out across the council so they are easier to attend.
Prism at the Summit
The Summit is hosting a gathering of arrowmen from all
across the nation for the re-dedication cweremony. This experience includes all Summit Center activities and culminates
with a re-dedication ceremony at the end of the session. The
cost is $180 and both youth and adults are allowed to participate! If you would like to enter the drawing for a ticket, please

NYLT 2016
National Youth Leadership Training will be held June 12-17 at
Camp Chief Logan. The course is ideal for SPLs, PLs and any

There is not an age restriction on any of the activities or the
camporee, but the participant must be enrolled as a Boy Scout
or Venture Crew Member. This IS NOT A CUB SCOUT OR
WEBELOS activity.
Cost- $25 per person attending Adults Leaders as well as
Scouts. The cut off for on-time registration is April 22, 2016.
At this time the fee will increase to $40. This is to allow for
proper planning and site coordination. This fee covers all activities for the weekend. Units are required to provide their own
food, tenting, and camping equipment. Registration is now
open, and all Units must register online. Go to
www.buckskin.org for more information, and to register.

Day Camp is an outdoor experience where Cub Scouts participate in individual and team sports, games, crafts, explore nature, and work on achievements, electives, and activity badges.
The day camp program is designed to teach skills and develop
attitudes that make a boy more self-reliant and more at home
in the outdoors. He will have fun with a purpose. The purpose
is to build character while providing a memorable experience
in the life of a boy. Make sure your boys get Cub Scouting at
its best by attending Cub Scout Day Camp. We are always in
need of more volunteers to help make it a memorable summer
for the Scouts. If you would like to get involved and help make
life long memories for the Cub Scouts at Day Camp please
contact the Angela Jarvis, or our Senior District Executive,

Moving Forward
Cardinal District was recognized at the past Council Awards
Banquet for achieving the bronze level in the Journey to Excellence program. This is the first time our district has been
rated on this scale since it has been used. This was made possible only by the great volunteers who make the district work,
and its only getting better. Our Membership, Finance, and
Program committees have some great things planned for the
coming year and I believe we will score even higher in the
coming years, but only with your support. We need at least one
person from every unit in the district to represent their unit. This is
how we know what your unit wants to do when it comes to
Program, it makes it easier to organize your unit’s membership
drive, it can only help your unit! So take a look around and if
your unit doesn’t have someone on the district committee, find
a parent, assistant, or a committee member and ask them to
get involved, so we can offer the program your boys deserve.

Cornstalk District, and the Roundtable provides the chance for
leaders to share their experiences and learn new effective methods of providing scouting to our youth. We would love to have

district meetings take place on the first Thursday of every
month, at the scout camp on Garrett’s Fork Rd. Commissioner

Chief Cornstalk/Elk River/Pioneer District Family Camp at

WEBELOS-REE
The district’s annual Webelos-ree will be April 1 & 2 at Camp
Arrowhead. The event will focus on the Camping adventure.
Things will get underway with an evening session on Friday
night covering Leave No Trace. The Saturday activity day will
include fishing, BB shooting, archery, outdoor cooking, and
other requirements to complete the adventure. Event is open
to all Webelos and their parents and leaders. This is not a family camp. Registration is limited to Webelos and their adult partners. Check your emails or see the council website for registration information.
CUB SCOUT FISHING DERBY
All Cubbies in the district are invited to attend the annual Fishing Derby at Camp Arrowhead on Saturday, April 2. Sponsored by Roger Smith Marine in Lavalette, Cubs can enjoy a
morning of fishing with the chance to win a trophy for the
largest fish caught or the most fish caught. Door prizes include
a number of rod and reel combinations from the Sportsmen’s
Alliance. Leaders should check their email or the council website for complete details.
WILDERNESS FIRST AID COURSE
BSA Wilderness First Aid, including CPR and AED certification, will be offered the weekend of April 22-23 at Camp Arrowhead. The course is limited to 20 persons. Adult leaders
(Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venture Scout), any Venture
Scout, and Boy Scouts age 14 years or older are welcome to
participate. The cost is $65 which covers the materials. Participants will be on their own for meals, although some snacks
will be provided along with a continental breakfast on Saturday
morning. A number of registrations have already been received, so if you are interested please register quickly. Check
the council website for details.
SUMMIT CAMPOREE
The excitement is building as many troops have expressed an
interest in the special Spring Camporee to be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve the last weekend of April. The cost is $25
per person until April 22, after which time the registration goes
to $40 per person. We will be able to do the zip lines, rock
climbing, mountain biking, and the skate park. In addition,

REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The early registration deadline for Boy Scout Sumer Camp
registration at BSR or Camp Arrowhead is May 1. Summer
camp fee is $225 if paid prior to May 1. After May 1, the fee is
$260. Register now to receive the lower fee.
BALOO
Cub Scout leaders have an opportunity to complete the training needed to take your pack outdoors for adventure. Basic
Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) will be offered
at Camp Arrowhead beginning Friday, May 6 at 6:00pm.

Congratulations to our 2016 District Award of Merit recipients, Charish Holley, from Pack 252, and Shawn Comer,
from Troop 1. Anyone who knows these 2 great volunteers
knows how well each of them deserve this great honor. We
are very lucky to have them in the Mountain Dominion
District and look forward to many more great years working beside them. Congratulations again!
2016 District Pinewood Derby
Our District Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday March
12th at the Maple View Church of Christ. A great time was
had by all. The following is a list of all the individual winners. For the Tigers, Jacob Stacy came in first, Alexander
Barrett second and Aedan O’Quinn third. For the Wolfs,
Benjamin Slater first, Landon Crane second and Jordan
Cecil third. In the Bears division, Coltin Collins came in
first, Nick Stacy second and Conner O’Brien third, And
finally, for the Webelos, Nathan Hornbuckle came in first,
Caden Mann second and Jason Hajenga third. Our districts
overall winners are First: Jacob Stacy, Second: Caden Mann
and Third; Nathan Hornbuckle. These 3 are the District
representatives to the Council race in April.
Congratulations to all our winners!
Upcoming Camps
Due to the wonderful opportunity that was made available
by the Council by having a Camporee at the Summit, we
will not have a separate Spring Camporee for the district
this year. This means that this year’s Badgeoree will be even
that much more fabulous. If you are planning on teaching a
Merit Badge at the Badgeoree this year, please let Dan
Trent know now so he can put you on the list.
Our Cub Scout Spring Family Camp will be at Camp Roland on the weekend of May 20 to the 22. Paula and Charish have a wonderful program prepared so please make
arrangements to come out and enjoy a wonderful experience. Also, the Camp Roland Day Camp is fast approaching and to get the reduced rate, registration needs to be in
by May 15th.
Training
For those of you interested in becoming certified in Cub
Scout Shooting ranges, or those who need BALOO Training, Paula and Charish, along with Sam Dunn, will be conducting these trainings at Camp Roland on Saturday, April
30th. If you plan to attend, please let her know as soon as
possible.

As Scout units begin to focus on the approaching New Year,
most will begin planning their Blue & Gold ceremonies, as
well of Court of Honor ceremonies. As you plan these
events, please reserve about 15 minutes into your program
for a Family Friends of Scouting presenter to speak briefly
about the council, along with the importance of this campaign in reaching more youth in our council. A member of

custom patch for each participant, use of the facility and
the cost of trophies. First, Second, Third and Best of

March 30. Open class does not have to pre-register.
The champions division will follow the Buckskin Council’s Pinewood Derby Rules that are available on the
Council Website. Open division will follow height, width,
length and bottom clearance requirements from Council
rules (due to track requirements). Weight and wheels have
no requirement for the Open Race.
District Dinner
The annual district dinner will once again be held on Adventures on the Gorge, on April 21st. There will be no
district committee or roundtable meetings that evening, as
all Scout and Scouters are encouraged to attend the dinner. We will be recognizing several leaders awards at the
dinner. If you know someone that is eligible for a leader
award, please send the nomination form to Trey at
jaliff@bsamail.org

The Seneca District is looking for quality volunteers that
have a passion for working with other Scout leaders, as
well as influencing the success of Scout units in their area.

to make way for the exciting new H. Bernard Wehrle,
Sr. Scout Leadership Service Center!

The Council Service Center and Charleston Scout Shop
has new hours. We are open Monday through Friday,

CUBMOBILE
Cabell Midland High School will be the site for the district’s
annual Cubmobile Derby will be May 14. Cub Scout Packs are
encouraged to have each den build a race car, which the den
members will individually race. The dens with the fastest average times will be our winners. Trophies to the dens who finish
first, second and third. See full details in the Cubmobile Derby
information in your email, on the Council website or our Facebook page.
DAY CAMP EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Cub Scout families need to be aware that the early registration
deadline for day camps is May 15. Day Camp registration is $55
if paid before May 15. After May 15 the fee is $65 and $75 for
walk in registration the day the camp begins. Plan now to have
your day camp fees paid to avoid a late fee.
NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING
The equivalent of Wood Badge for youth is NYLT. The Council will conduct a course beginning Sunday, June 12 at Camp
Chief Logan. The course is designed to help young people develop into better leaders in their units. Open to Boy Scouts age
13 and First Class, and Venture Scouts (male and female), the
course centers around the concepts of what a leader must be,
what they must know, and what they must do, with a focus on
how to accomplish all this. The course fee is $190 for the week.
Which includes all materials, meals, lodging and a tee shirt. See
the Council website for complete NYLT details.
MUGUYOH DISTRICT DAY CAMP
Nina Roberts and Angie Jarvis have planned a great week of
fun and adventure for Cub Scouts for our district Day Camp to
be held June 27 thru July 1, at Camp Arrowhead. Activities will
include swimming, bb shooting, archery, games, crafts and lots
more fun. Plan now to be a part of Day Camp. Early registration is $55 if paid by May 15. Check your district email, the
District Facebook page or the Council website for registration
information.
