Georgia State concludes a five-game home stand facing Mercer for the third and
final time this season. The two teams have split the previous two meetings, with each
team winning on the opponents home field. The Panthers recently won an 8-6 contest last
Tuesday in Macon.
State enters the contest looking to bounce-back after seeing their seven-game winning
streak come to an end on Sunday. It was the second seven-game winning streak for the
Panthers this season. Georgia State is currently 14-4 at home this year and stand 59-23
over the last two and a half seasons at the friendly confines, a .719 winning percentage.
Senior Bradley Logan enters Wednesday’s contest on the verge of possibly the biggest
career record that he will break, the school’s all-time hits record. The Augusta, Ga. native
is just two hits shy of Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas 267 hits for the most in school history.
Logan already owns the runs scored, RBIs, doubles, sacrifice flies and hit by pitch records.
For more details on all of his accomplishments, see page two of this notes packet.
Junior Jeremy Gazerro earned top honors on the mound for the Panthers last week.
The Calhoun, Ga. native went 2-0 and allowed just two hits in 7.1 innings pitched, while
striking out four. Gazerro recorded wins over Mercer on Tuesday and Air Force on
Saturday. Against Mercer, he pitched 4.1 innings of one-hit relief, giving way to sophomore closer Justin Malone who got the final out for this third save of the season and tenth
of his career, tying the school’s all-time record which he now shares with Kevin Hopper
(1999-00).
The Panthers continue to dominate the NCAA on the offensive side of the ball. Thru
37 games, the Panthers have hit 69 home runs, just eight shy of the school’s all-time record
of 77 set in 2000. The Panthers lead the nation with a .379 batting average and 12.0 runs
scored per game. The team is just 41 runs scored shy of tying the school’s all-time single
season record set just last year of 485.

THE CENTURY MARK
Head coach Greg Frady reached the 100-win plateau at Georgia State during the
March 6th doubleheader against North Carolina Central. It took the fewest games of any
coach in Panther history to reach that feat. Frady enters this week’s games 119-93 and
only trails Mike Hurst, who finished his Panther tenure in 2006 with 293 career victories
for the most victories in school history.
Frady also reached the 300th win of his career as the Panthers defeated Hofstra on
April 9th, 9-3. Before becoming the associate head coach at Georgia State and assistant
coach at UCF, Frady was the head coach at North Florida Community College, earning
187 victories. He enters the weeke 306-204 for his career.
ON THE VERGE OF HISTORY
Senior Bradley Logan is the statistically one of the greatest student-athletes in
Georgia State history. Logan, who has been a starter since stepping on campus in the
fall of 2006, has the chance to graduate in May with ten career records, not to mention
standing in the top 10 in several single season categories. Among those is the singleseason hits record which he set in 2008 with 85. He entered the year with the hit by pitch
record and took over the runs scored record on March 6th against NCCU. Against New
Mexico State, he moved to the top of the list in RBIs and sacrifice flies. Against Hofstra,
Logan set the career total bases record and a week later set the doubles record against
Air Force.
Below are some of the career records he is chasing this year entering this weekend:

JUST LIKE THE ENERGIZER BUNNY
When it comes to consistency, no one does it any better than senior Bradley Logan.
Before April 2nd’s game with Towson, Logan had reached safely in 41 straight games
dating back to May 1st of last year. The Tigers held Logan hitless to end the streak that
was the third longest in the nation at the time.
YOUR HONOR, YOUR HONOR
Several Panthers have been named to some of the most prestigious lists in the
country already this season. Sophomore Justin Malone, who was named to a pair of
freshman all-america list last year, was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association Stopper of the Year Watch List earlier this season. He led the Panthers with
seven saves during the 2009 season.
Junior Carter Sackett was named to the Coleman Company Johnny Bench Award
Watch List as one of the top catchers in the country. It marked the third year in a row
that a Panther has been named to the preseason list.
Senior Carl Moniz was recently named to the Brooks Wallace Preseason Watch
List as one of the top shortstops in the country. Moniz marks the third player in the last
three years to be named to the list. Bradley Logan earned the honor in 2009, while JeanMichel Rochon-Salvas was named to the list in 2008.
“NO SOUP” RATHER RUNS FOR YOU
Sophomore Justin Malone has become known simply as “The Closer” around
Georgia State baseball. Malone was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award
Watch List after earning a pair of freshman all-america honors during his freshman
season.
On the opening weekend of CAA play, Malone dominated Old Dominion, earning
a win and a save. On Friday night, he came in with one out and a runner on first in the

bottom of the ninth and immediately recorded a double play to earn his first save of the
season. He followed on Sunday, going 3.1 innings to allow the Panthers to rally with 11
runs over the last two innings to earn a 16-10 win and the series against the Monarchs.
He finally allowed a run this season against New Mexico State, after throwing 11.1
innings of scoreless relief. He had not allowed a run dating back to April 11th of last
season. His stretch of 21.0 scoreless innings set a new school record, surpassing David
Hawkin’s 2002 total of 15.2 scoreless innings.
This season, he is 3-1 with three saves, throwing 22.0 innings and holding opponents
to a .205 batting average, to go along with 19 strikeouts. He leads the team with 17 appearances.
Against Mercer, he tied the school record for saves in a career with 10, which he now
shares with Kevin Hopper (1999-00).
Last season he led the bullpen to a school record 19 saves, seven of which he recorded
himself. In the CAA Championship, Malone earned a pair of saves and a win, earning alltournament honors.
OH WHAT A MONTH
The Panthers were red-hot in the month of March, going 14-6, though ironically
losing the first and last games of the month. The 14 wins were the most the Panthers have
ever recorded in a single month, surpassing the 13 games Georgia State won last May.
AND THE OSCAR GOES TO...
Who knew the Academy Awards were a multiple-day affair. After the Oscars were
handed out on March 7th, junior Mark Micowski scored the collegiate baseball version of
an Oscar with a handful of national honors on March 8th and 9th:
• NCBWA National Player of the Week
• CAA Player of the Week
• College Baseball Foundation National All-Star Line-up
• CollegeBaseballInsider.com Northeast Region National Player of the Week
Micowski led the Panthers to a 4-1 week, batting .636 (14-for-22), with 14 runs
scored, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 27 total bases, five doubles, one triple, a 1.227 slugging
percentage, .679 on base percentage and a pair of steals to go along with several school
records.
In game one of the series with North Carolina Central, the Haddam, Conn. native,
hit for the cycle in the first four innings, finishing the game 7-for-8 with four runs scored
and seven RBIs. He set a school record for at bats with eight, as well as hits with seven. He
helped the team break the school runs record of 32 (which was broken again in the series
finale on Sunday), as the team set records for doubles, hits, at bats, RBIs and triples. He
tied the school record with three doubles and 15 total bases.
In the series finale, he set the GSU runs scored record with six, going 2-for-5 at the
plate. He helped the Panthers score a school-record 103 runs on the weekend in the fourgame series with the Eagles.
THE SECOND ACT
Redshirt-sophomore Joey Wood followed the lead of his teammate Mark Micowski
by earning CAA Player of the Week last week. Wood had a stellar week at the plate, batting
.640 (16-for-25) with 29 total bases for a 1.160 slugging percentage last week. He belted
three home runs and had 14 RBIs, leading the Panthers to a 4-1 week, including a series
victory at New Mexico State, the farthest west the Panthers have ever traveled. He scored
12 times to go along with four doubles, a walk, three hit by pitches and a .667 on base
percentage. He also added in a sacrifice fly.
He started the week going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the Panthers
13-6 win over UNC Asheville. On Wednesday, he went 4-for-6 with a run scored and
three RBIs as the Panthers swept the Bulldogs, 18-2.
After going 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs in the opener against New Mexico
State, a 13-2 Panther victory, the redshirt-sophomore went 1-for-4 with a home run, two
runs scored and two RBIs in Georgia State’s tough 12-11 loss to the Aggies on Saturday.
He concluded the week with a 5-for-7 performance with six runs scored and six RBIs
in the series finale, a 30-24 Panther victory on Sunday. Wood belted two home runs,
including a grand slam as Georgia State tied an NCAA record with three grand slams in
the game. His six runs scored tied the school record set just over a week ago.

BEST FOREIGN FILM
Senior Carl Moniz was named CAA Player of the Week on
Monday afternoon by the conference office, becoming the fourth
player to earn CAA honors this season.
Moniz, a native of Laval, Quebec, belted three home runs in
four games, while batting .667 (10-for-15) to lead the Panthers to
a 3-1 week, including a sweep of previously unbeaten in conference play Hofstra over the weekend. He collected 22 total bases for
a 1.467 slugging percentage, while driving in 13 and scoring six
runs. He added a pair of walks for a .684 on base percentage and
stole two bases while adding three doubles.
Moniz started the week going 2-for-4 at Auburn with a home
run, run scored and four RBIs.
The senior followed on Friday night by helping the Panthers
snap a five-game losing streak, going 3-for-4 with two doubles,
three runs scored and an RBI as the Panthers defeated Hofstra,
9-2.
On Saturday April 10th, Moniz went 4-for-5 at the plate with
a home run, double and five RBIs as State took game two from
Hofstra, 8-2.
He concluded the series with a huge home run, for multiple
reasons on Sunday. Moniz went 1-for-3 at the plate with a threerun home run, that proved to be the difference. With the Panthers
ahead 3-0, Moniz homered over the right field wall in the seventh.
Hofstra responded with a three-run home run in the ninth that
would have tied the game if not for Moniz’ earlier blast.
BUCHANAN’S OPENING ACT
Junior David Buchanan opened CAA play with a stellar
pitching performance that earned him CAA Pitcher of the Week
honors. The Peachtree City native pitched 8.1 innings and did
not allow a run until the ninth inning of Georgia State’s 2-1 win
over Old Dominion. Buchanan struck out 12, while not walking a
single batter. He struck out the side in order in both the first and
sixth innings. The win helped the Panthers win the series, which
could be pivotal to making the CAA Championship in May.
A RECORD NUMBER OF RECORDS
For the second straight season, it appears as though the
Georgia State baseball team is attempting to re-write the record

OH CANADA
For more than a decade, the Georgia State baseball program
has always seemed to have a little bit of a Canadian feel to it and
this season is no different. Senior Carl Moniz (Laval, Quebec) is
the lone returnee, however, he is joined by fellow Canadians Bryan
Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) and Ryan Fleming (Whitby,
Ontario) on the team this season.
Moniz has earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canada
honorable mention honors in each of the last two seasons. Last
season, Marc Mimeault (Candiac, Quebec) finished his career
as one of the most storied players in the history of the program.
Mimeault finished his career with a school-record career .364
batting average, after belting 14 home runs during his senior year
and being named to the All-Canada First Team.
Paul Schlosser was one of the first Canadians to receive recognition at Georgia State, earning 2000 All-Canadian First Team
honors as well. Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas, who graduated in
2008, holds several all-time records in the Georgia State history
book.
The Canadian connection is helping the Panthers to a lot
of wins this season. Moniz, who earned CAA Player of the
Week honors on April 12th, is batting .403 with a .674 slugging
percentage and seven home runs. Fleming currently is hitting .410
with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs.
I COME FROM A LAND DOWN UNDER
Junior Aidan Francis made a splash during his sophomore
year, helping to lead the Panthers to their first CAA Championship. The native of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, spent
the first three-fourths of the season in the Georgia State bullpen.
However, Francis was moved into the Friday night starting role
with about two weeks to go in the regular season and flourished.
He made his best start of the season on March 20th, going 6.0
innings in the Panthers 14-4 win over Austin Peay. Francis allowed
seven hits and two runs, while striking out three for the victory.
The first Friday night Francis pitched, he went 8 2/3 innings
against VCU, earning the win after allowing just two earned runs
and striking out 10. For his effort, he earned CAA Pitcher of the
Week honors.
He is 2-3 this season and has struck out 36 in just 36.2 innings
pitched. Along with Justin Malone, he threw the Panthers first
shutout of the 2010 season, a 14-0 blanking of North Carolina
Central on March 6th.
TEAM OF THE YEAR
For the first time in school history, Georgia State was honored
as Georgia Dugout 2009 Team of the Year at the club’s annual
banquet several weeks ago. Ironically, the host of the event was
Tommy Barber, a Georgia State baseball graduate from the 1970’s
and supporter of Panther baseball.
YOUR JOHN HANCOCK PLEASE...
Georgia State signed four student-athletes to a National Letter
of Intent during the early signing period. The group was made up
of four pitchers who will be on campus starting next fall.
The 2009-2010 early signing class includes:

Sam Agnew-Wieland
Sam will graduate from Wheeler HS in Marietta, where he earned
Cobb All-County First Team honors last season, while also being
named to the Georgia Dugout Club Top 100 and Region 6-AAAAA
All-Region team. He finished his junior season with a 6-3 record
along with a 3.20 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 63.3 innings pitched.
Tyler Claburn
Claburn will come to GSU with two years of eligibility remaining
after a pair of seasons at Wallace Community College in Dothan,
Ala., playing for former major league catcher Macky Sasser. The
native of Peachtree City, Ga. played at Starr’s Mill HS. Last season,
he made 18 appearances, throwing 60.3 innings, while holding
opponents to a .207 batting average and striking out 50, walking
just 20 batters.
Jake Dyer
Dyer will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins
Georgia State after two seasons at nearby Georgia Perimeter,
playing for coach Danny Blue. A native of Conyers, Ga., Dyer
played for coach Mike Phiel and Chris Davis at Salem HS. During
his senior season, Dyer went 10-3 with a 1.67 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched. He finished high school with the most
wins in school history (19) second most strikeouts (145) in a
career, as well as the second lowest ERA (1.88) in the history of
the school. Dyer was named the 2008 Rockdale Citizen Pitcher of
the Year, while earning all-region and Georgia Dugout Club Elite
’96 honors.
Cole Outz
Outz will be a sophomore when he steps onto campus next fall
after a season at Young Harris Community College. Outz graduated from Warner Robins HS last May and is currently attending
Young Harris. Last year, Cole went 2-1 on the mound with a sub
3.00 ERA.

three-game series in Richmond this weekend. First pitch on Friday
night is set for 7 p.m., with a 4 p.m. start on Saturday and 1 p.m.

FOUR YEARS OF EXCELLENCE
Senior Bradley Logan is not only quickly moving up the all-time records list in many different Georgia State career categories, he
is also starting to draw attention as one of the top players all-time in CAA history. With just over six weeks to go in the 2010 regular
season, Logan is quickly approaching the top tens in seven CAA career records. He will almost certainly be in the top ten of each of these
categories when he graduates from Georgia State in May.
