Message from the Acting Principal
NAPLAN
Our year 3 and 5 students have completed NAPLAN for 2015!
They displayed great positivity and determination over the last three
days and they should be proud of their efforts. An individual NAPLAN
report for each child will be sent home later this year. Results provide
additional feedback for parents, carers and teachers on how students
are progressing in key curriculum areas. Further information is
available on the ACARA website (http://www.nap.edu.au/).
Parent/Teacher interviews
If parents wish to make an appointment with me to discuss the
progress of their child/ren, please contact me at school. I am happy to
meet with you before/after school or on a Thursday.
iAIM (Increasing Activity and Intelligent Minds) Action School
Our school has made a commitment to being an iAIM Action School.
The iAIM project aligns with the current regional focus of improving
student outcomes. The project is about enhancing learning and
teaching outcomes through the benefits of regular physical activity
within the school day. The creativity of the project will allow teachers,
principals and the team to explore ideas, develop resources, test new
approaches, critically review and evaluate the successes of the
program. If you have ideas on how our school could become more
active, please contact me.
Read More in May
KEEP READING!
At the end of April, students were sent home with a challenge to
‘Read More in May’. This was an initiative by Scholastic to engage
families in reading together, everyday. By now your family should be
nearly half way through completing the challenge and have hopefully
taken the time to read with/to your children each day this month. It’s a
wonderful way to make reading fun and a part of your family’s
everyday routine.
Book Fair
Next week Begonia will be holding its annual Book Fair. This is our
very own pop-up book shop with plenty of great books to choose
from. You are welcome to come and have a look at any time next
week. A computer will be set up so that online payments can be
made easily using a debit card.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
All Begonia students have been registered in the 2015 Premier’s Reading Challenge. The
challenge will begin on Tuesday 19th May and end on Friday 28th August. A special bookmark
as well as a reading record sheet has been sent home with each child so that they can track
their own progress. For more information visit the Premier’s Reading Challenge website at http://

Toasty Tuesday
Everyone was excited to start ‘Toasty Tuesday’ this week! As the weather continues to cool off,
remember to bring in a sandwich to be toasted on Tuesday’s at first lunch.
Reminder - label ALL clothing
As we experience cooler weather it is important to ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled with
your child’s name. We always have unclaimed clothing during the winter months and we would
love to ensure that clothes go home to the right person at the end of each day.
Kind regards,

Anzac day
ANZAC Day Celebrations
Thank you to those who came along to our intimate Pre ANZAC Day ceremony a few weeks
ago. As a part of our ANZAC Centenary celebrations, the Years 5 and 6 students at Begonia
produced amazing projects on the Landing at Gallipoli. These were then used as part of an
exhibition at the St George RSL. The whole school took part in an excursion to go and see this
wonderful display. The students thoroughly enjoyed the trip and were excited to see the war
artefacts and memorabilia.
I would like to say a special thank you to Cookie who donated his time to be our bus driver/
chauffeur for this excursion.
