Discover Woburn Abbey, the historic
family home of the Earls and Dukes of
Bedford since 1619.
As part of the centenary anniversary of
World War I, Woburn Abbey will be holding
an exhibition exploring and explaining the
roles played during the War by the 11th Duke
and Duchess and the Abbey itself. The Duke
established and paid for a training garrison
whilst the Duchess converted parts of the
Abbey to create one of the most advanced
hospitals of the time to treat wounded soldiers.

250 works of art displayed in more

used by the 15th Duke and Duchess.
The exhibition will include artefacts,
photographs and archive material telling the
individual stories of men and women, both
local and from the Estate, who in some way
were part of this unique and moving story.

In 1805 the 6th Duke commissioned the famous landscape
gardener Humphry Repton to create designs to enhance the
Woburn Abbey Gardens and Deer Park. 200 years later the
Gardens and Deer Park are open for everyone to enjoy.
Woburn ArtBeat, an exhibition of sculptures
to discover throughout the gardens, running
from 17th April through to the end of
September 2014.
Explore elegant horticultural designs as well as woodland
glades and wild biodiversity areas. Discover the tropical
Camellia House, Kitchen Garden and romantic Folly. The
restoration of Repton’s original Pleasure Grounds continues
today with additions of the Cone House and the Rockery
Pavillion being made in 2014.

Choose one of our standard tours and get
added value for your group with the addition
of a practical workshop. Our RHS trained
gardeners will demonstrate a gardening skill
before giving you the chance to get stuck in
and try it for yourself. Subjects in 2014 will
focus on Pruning and Propagation with the
options of seeds, grafting and cuttings. 2015
will see the addition of a range of Kitchen
Gardening sessions.
Get a unique insight into the Woburn Abbey
Gardens as you explore the landscape
created by Humphry Repton. Beginning with
a drive through the deer park, using the route
of a 19th Century visitor, the exploratory
guided tour through public and private
areas of the grounds and gardens will reveal
how Repton’s designs were implemented,
how they fared throughout the centuries
and the restoration and recreation projects
happening today.
(maximum 8 people)
Whether you are a gardening expert, handy with a
trowel or never potted a plant before, all are welcome
at ‘The Gardener’s Garden Show’. This annual event is
back for its fifth year on Saturday 21st and Sunday
22nd June 2014.
VIP Tours are only available in the months of
July and August, and take place after 6pm –
when the light in the garden is at its best.

grazing in their paddock and learn all
about the history of deer at Woburn on the
fascinating information boards.
