Our Mission Statement- To promote activities, tourism, and a spirit of comradeship among boaters
interested in the welfare & development of Lake Huron's beautiful Presque Isle Harbor.
Words from the Commodore
Winter of 2015 begins at Presque Isle and Grand Lake
Annapolis Boat Show
Light Houses in Michigan
Time to Retrofit
Winter has begun
and opportunity for
cold weather sports is
again here. Northern
Michigan enjoys more
than just warm waters for sailing and
the gamut of boating
activities. Personal
water craft turn into
snow mobiles for some, others trailer their launches to the Gulf. As we
start the new year, I want to wish everyone and their families Best
Wishes and Safe Travels until we have the joy of meeting and comparing notes and travels with each other at our first event in the Spring !

What was the coil of line called shown in
the header of Page 1 ?
Meeting pictures from the September
& October meetings of 2014
It was the Fireman's Coil ! Any length of rope over
three feet will tangle. The fireman’s Coil is the tidy
way to keep your lines out of harms way, easily accessible—quick and easy to untie and use.
Securing the loop and allowing the rope to
hang , “like many coils- when and if you need
them—they’re ready” !

Yacht Club Visits and Reciprocity
While visiting Pennsylvania and the Knoxville areas this
fall, your editors thought a visit to local Yacht Clubs could
uncover some new stories for our members visiting other
clubs around the globe.
Materials
Ropemakers' brochures and leaflets usually contain tables
listing the minimum average breaking load of every type
and size of their cordage products. Unfortunately, the data
differs from company to company, depending upon the
tests and equipment each firm uses, making comparisons
difficult.
SPECIFICATIONS
Product specifications may blur the facts: for example, a
"mooring line", made for specialized markets, may consist
of an elastic nylon core inside a hard-wearing polyester
sheath, while many mass-produced and comparatively
cheap cordage items, sold for the domestic market, can be
much weaker.
The first Club visited was near Knoxville. Tellico Village
is a planned development started about 20 years ago on the
bank of the TVA which created Tellico Lake. The development runs approximately 15 miles long but produces
almost 50 miles of shoreline:
The area which has 150 miles of deep water in both directions from the village, only requires winterization of power
trains and vessel—water systems on an exception basis
since the climate is moderate 4 season. Complimenting
water sports, the village sports 3 PGA designed golf
courses, a new library, wellness center and combination

The weather left a lot to be desired so we were only able to
go one day. I never saw so many Catamarans in one place.
Until this year its been all new boats but for the first time
ever they added a Brokers Cove so that you could take a
peek at great used boats too. If you're interested in almost

There are countless vendors in tents with an atmosphere
of a festive medieval fair to inform and entertain you.
Selling fixtures, rope, fittings, electronics, cleaning products; personalized T-shirts, cups and towels; machinery,
jewelery, canvas, magazines, gadgets and inventive doodahs of all descriptions. We always find something intriguing and useful. The United States Sailboat Show in
Annapolis falls on the Columbus Day long weekend each
year which is also the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend (our harvest—-

with a 90' wood laminated sailboat and I think we should all

Admiring a variable-draft Southerly 49 sailboat, we’re always
curious about other shallow-draft yachts so we checked out the
Antares and Gunboat catamarans, Seaward Yachts with their

summer as part of his
