two years and playing guitar for about six. She enjoys

National Anthem
Oh, say can you see, by the dawn’s
early light, what so proudly we hailed
at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright
stars, through the perilous fight, o’er
the ramparts we watched, were so
gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs
bursting in air, gave proof through the
night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner
yet wave o’er the land of the free and
the home of the brave!

“Building A Community Around Your Dreams”
Marketplace for Kids 2009 Tribute
Thank you for participating in
Marketplace for Kids!
See you next year!
www.MarketplaceForKids.org
MIKE SEMINARY, who works for
Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson a large regional
civil engineering company, has been an
annual participant in “Marketplace for
Kids” Education Days. His past experience
has helped him develop a unique way
of relating the importance of math and
science to engineering and how it impacts
the communities in which students live.
His presentation is designed to make a
difference for the students of North
Dakota by opening a door for kids
to understand how important both
engineers and engineering are to their
community…but most importantly; how
important the students are to their future
communities.
When students enter the classroom Mike
starts his presentation by asking them
to tell him what they really want to be
when they grow up. He then proceeds to
write all of this information on a dry erase
board and designs a community around
everything the students have told him.
He then uses this “student created
community” to describe how kid’s dreams
are the fuel for development. He builds
on this concept to show students that
every community, city, state, country and
profession exists because some kid had a
dream and that their teachers and family
members were important encouragers
of this process. This helps students
understand the importance of studying
and learning to the best of their abilities
to help them realize their dreams. By the
end of the presentation the marker board
has a community complete with schools,
factories, NASCAR tracks, strip malls,
research labs, Zoos, NFL stadiums, beauty
salons, auto dealers, and more! He even
includes the important roles music, art,
taxes and politicians play in making this
system work by using real stories from his
life to provide impact, drama, humor and
energy.
This presentation is all about kids, their
dreams, and applying themselves; it is a
life lesson about civics, turning dreams
into goals and building communities--and
doing so together.
