SeeCon SC2000 Measures Multiple Parallel Sawn Pieces
SeeCon SC2000 is an unique patented solution for real-time lumber size control in primary and
secondary breakdown and resaw. It is the only system on the market that is capable of
simultaneously controlling up to 15 parallel sawn pieces right at the outfeed of a sawing machine.
SeeCon allows sawmills, at last, to get detailed information about sawing machine performance,
which revolutionizes the way how sawing processes are controlled now and in the future. At any
multi-saw machine center SeeCon is essential in minimizing sawing variation/standard deviation of
target/kerf sizes, trim losses, saw expenses and Quality Control costs. It is an important component
in improving sawmills’ lumber grade and volume recovery, process uptime, productivity,
maintenance practices and profitability.
Automatic, Continuous, Real-time Operation with Instant Alarms
SeeCon is based on the state-of-the-art, non-contact
digital machine vision technology. The measuring unit is
installed either vertically or horizontally immediately at
the outfeed of a sawing machine. SeeCon scans at very
high density each parallel sawn piece over its whole length
as it exits the sawing machine. High number of data points
with corresponding saw/saw pocket information provides
significantly more efficient process control than any other
method. SeeCon´s software processes data into easy-toread reports and also archives them for future use. The
system´s real-time alarms enable operators instantly to
slow down, stop or adjust sawing machines in out-ofcontrol situations.
SeeCon Features and Benefits offer Great Return-On-Investment
A research report of University of British Columbia, a recent Doctoral Dissertation on Optical Lumber
Size Control and various other studies undoubtedly show that efficient lumber size control provides
significant profit gains to sawmills. More than 130 existing SeeCon installations prove this technology in
practice. The higher the production volume is the greater are the gains.
Typically the investment is paid off in a few months only because SeeCon

Enables absolutely the minimum target and kerf sizes for highest possible fiber recovery.
Improves grade by minimizing double-arbor mismatch, bullheading, waving, bevel, snip.
Reduces trim losses, enables cutting of longer full-edged pieces.
Increases production by optimizing saw run times. Change saws/bad saws when needed.
Optimizes feed and cutting/saw speeds, saw types etc. for each application and season.
Improves maintenance efficiency by reducing troubleshooting and pinpointing problems.
Reduces process downtime due to instant confirmation after saw changes and maintenance.
Enables systematic comparison of saw performance, suppliers, types, filing practices.
Eliminates time consuming inefficient manual size control, use QC for improving process.
Improves grade/down stream efficiency – uniform lumber thickness reduces warping.
Improves dry kiln efficiency – minimized target sizes reduce kiln drying time.
Customer testimonial: “By using the SeeCon measurement and reporting system effectively, we can now
tolerate an increase of 10% in raw material prices or a drop of 5% in sales prices without any effect on
profitability. More importantly, if the market situation remains the same, we can earn an extra profit of
one million dollars with our improved production practices.”
