PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello All,
I hope everyone is getting those rides that
they want.
Now on to some DISTRICT Show
matters. We are having problems with
DISTRICTS not getting there show
packets in on time and with all the correct
paperwork. Show packets are due 7 days
after the show, any time later than that
and you are considered late. We have
been having to suspend districts in order
to just get the paperwork. 30 days late is
not acceptable, riders then don’t know
where they stand and members renewals
are held up so then they are being asked
to pay again. New members aren’t getting
there rider information packets on a
timely basis. District board members
need to be aware of what is taking place
within your district and should be asking
if the paperwork is being processed on
time. Districts should be making sure
that when they are putting a person in
charge of this important job that it will be
done on a timely and sufficient manner.
We don’t like having to suspend districts
and we don’t just suspend for being a
week or two late, if your distirct has
gone on the suspension list in the past its
because they were majorly late.
Don’t forget about getting the RABIES
CERTIFICATION if you want to bring
your beloved family friend to STATE
SHOW.
Ride safe and remember to where your
helmet.

SPRING CLASSIC – MAY 2008
CAMP PENDLETON
Spring Classic is just 3 months away! We have a great venue for the weekend with
Spring Classic being held at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. The very best part is
the weather will be awesome for everybody.
The Camp Pendleton Rodeo Grounds is a located at the southern end of Camp
Pendleton and offers a very large rodeo arena with premium ground. During recent
renovations of the arena, Camp Pendleton invested over $40,000 in dirt alone which
offers the best of ground for everybody. This arena is even surrounded by grand
stands for great viewing for everybody.
You are welcome to arrive and set up camp anytime after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May
22nd. Competitors will not be allowed to on base before that time. Over night
camping is $10 per night.
We have more than enough room for parking with spots not only near the arena, but
also campers road which offers a more seclusive section and brick BBQ’s. There are
ample water faucets, but electrical hook-ups are limited at the fairgrounds.
There will be food vendors available at the rodeo grounds, but for those who want
something different, not far from the arena at Camp Pendleton Main Street, is a
Domino’s Pizza, Wendy’s, Starbucks and Subway, which everybody can enjoy.
Please remember; you can enjoy the restaurants on base, but you must have a military
ID to shop at the stores.
Camp Pendleton is a working U.S. Marine Base and all visitors/competitors will be
expected to abide by their rules and regulations. You will be asked for your current
license, registration and proof of current insurance in order to enter the grounds.
Camp Pendleton also has a very strict policy regarding loose dogs, and it does enforce
its rules and regulations regarding this matter. There are to be absolutely no loose
dogs on the Base. If your dog is seen loose (i.e. without a leash attached to a human
or tied up, or on a confided cage, trailer, etc.), the dog will be taken by the Military
Police to the on base kennel, owners fined, and CGA will run the risk of shutting
down the entire show. It does not matter if the dog is running loose in your camp or
around your horses, there are to be absolutely no loose dogs. A leash attached to the
Page 4
dog, but dragging on the ground, does not constitute a leashed dog.The Military Police
will be patrolling the grounds on a regular basis, throughout the day and night.
If you own a dog which will not be lead by a leash or stay confined, or you simply do
not want to leash your dog, it is suggested you keep that dog at home.
We have limited access to stalls and unless you have confirmation of a stall before
hand, you will need to plan on bringing portable stalls or corrals. For those who do
not have portables, there have been many suggestions on how to put some together
inexpensively to include:
One side of a horse trailer with heavy PVC pipe on the other three sides. The PVC
piping can be connected to resemble a pipe corral.
Some past CGA riders have used metal or aluminum pipes in a similar fashion – the
metal, aluminum or PVC can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes.
You could also look into purchasing a portable corral which will come in handy a
couple of times a year. Some vendors who sell portable corrals are:
All American Trailers in Norco, CA
Cart a Corral at (805) 491-9403 www.cartacorral.com
Golden State Corrals in El Monte 1-877-926-7725 www.goldenstatecorrals.com
Doug Verseput 661-944-6133 (AVDR, Palmdale CGA District)
If you have extra portable stalls and are willing to rent them out, please call Sue
Engelhardt at (951) 907-7635 and we will connect you with somebody who needs to
rent one.
Once again this year at Spring Classic the awards will be $$$CASH$$$ to
Highpoint and Reserve Highpoint in each division. $250 $ILVER DOLLAR$ for
each of 6 divisional Highpoint winners; PLUS $100 $ILVER DOLLAR$ for
each of 6 Reserve Highpoint winners; PLUS $10 $ILVER DOLLAR$ for each
1st place winner in each event; PLUS $5 $ILVER DOLLAR$ for each 2nd - 5th
place winner in each event. Ribbons will be given in 1st through 5th place in each
event. Don't forget the Jackpots in all 19 events with a 5D format and 100%
payback to the riders.
We look forward to a successful and fun Spring Classic. Be sure to get your entries in
early!

DISTRICT 1 - BAY AREA TIME BUSTERS
SAN JOSE/GILROY
http:www.batbgymkhana.com
By Sheri Herchkorn
Hello from District 1 and Happy Mothers day to all of you Mothers out there! We had
our Shamrock two day highpoint show on March 29 and 30. We had 55 riders on
Saturday and 60+ on Sunday. What a great show! The arena was once again just
awesome. And those gorgeous custom made Crumrine buckles with a “pot of gold”
and green stones were awesome.
We had Leanna deMontigny and Roberta Jiracek down for both days, and Mariah
came on Sunday. Speaking of Mariah, she had a fight with a pole in poles 1 and the
pole wound of winning, leaving Mariah with quite a laceration above her left eye.
After I cleaned her up and put a couple of butterfly bandages on, ( she should have
had sutures placed) Mariah was back out there riding! Hope you healed up nicely
Mariah, I bet you had quite the shinner!
Christopher and Nathan Rowles came up along with Sierra Madrigal, Kayla Chavez,
Renee Ledesma and Allison Shiffrar. Down from District 9 was Rebekah and Rachel
Crill. A big welcome to Cory Martin and, Jolie and Kenny Martin who all had a great
weekend. The Hofman family was down, with President Skip helping out in the arena,
Lesa was in the booth and the girls, Kassidi, Stefani and Ashley had some great rides.
I would also welcome Sarah Hambly who came down from Navato, hope you had a
good weekend and your Dad says you are coming to our Aloha show so we will see
you there!

The burgers and hot dogs were much appreciated guys ! They are planning their
special Aloha show menu and everyone says they want the carne asada tacos back, so I
am hoping they will be !
Quick correction notice. Back in the March Article, I had listed some awesome times
by Arlene Tsuji. Well as most of you know Arlene doesn’t compete, but Jamie does. I
know that Arlene loved the limelight for awhile, but I want to make it clear that Jamie
was the awesome rider getting those AAA+ and supreme times, not her mom Arlene.
Sorry Arlene, I had to come clean!
District 1 would like to welcome two new board members. Richard Holland and
Mindi Sullivan. They decided that they needed more responsibility and work at the
shows so they joined the board and now they have to come to the monthly meetings !
Actually they came to one of our great dinner meetings, really enjoyed themselves and
how we run our meetings and we voted them in ! Great to have you both on the board
with us guys !!
As you all are aware our big Aloha show is coming in June, on the 7th and 8th. Just
remember that we have to limit it to 80 riders, so get your entry in right away. We have
the saddles and buckles ordered, and will have the BBQ and hopefully a band. We
will also have our great raffle, and the grand prize is a week at a beautiful home in
Kauai, Hawaii (does not include airfare) the house is huge so you could bring family
and friends. 1st prize is a week at a cabin at Pine Mountain Lake, 3rd prize is $50.00
cash, and we have a ton of wonderful gifts and gift certificates, alot that is not horse
related! Tickets will be on sale at every show, so make sure you buy some. The
drawing will be held at the Aloha show, but you don’t need to be present to win.
Our May show is May 10 and 11. Mothers day is the 11th and we plan to have a
surprise for all the mothers!
Until next time, be safe and wear those helmets.
Highpoint was of course the beautiful buckles and we had embroidered hay bags for
reserve. The reserve and highpoint winners were: FC 10 and under, reserve was Kyla
Smyth and Highpoint was Erynn Torquato. FC 11 and over reserve was Amanda
Shores and highpoint was Tiffany Rawson. A reserve was Robin Brandon and
highpoint was Riane Torquato. AA reserve was Chrissy Looney and highpoint was
Rachel Crill. AAA reserve was Allison Shiffrar and highpoint was Sarah Hambly.
AAA+ reserve was Leanna deMontigny and highpoint was Roberta Jiracek. Congratulations to all of you !
Once again we had some awesome times run at the Odom arena. Kayla Chavez with a
AAA+ Big T Leanna deMontigny with AAA+ Birangle, Big T, Figure 8 stake, Poles 1
and speedball. Mariah had AAA+ Figure 8 stake and Supreme Hurry Scurry and
Quads. Ashley Hofman had AAA+ Quads, single stake, figure 8 stake and Hurry
Scurry. Renee Ledesma had a AAA+ Figure 8 stake and Big T. Alley Lewis had a
AAA= Poles 1. Sierra Madrigal had AAA+ Quads, speed ball Keyhole and single
stake. Chris Rowles had AAA+ Quads, poles 2 and single stake, Nathan Rowles had
AAA+ Hurry Scurry and Quads. Jamie Tsuji had AAA+ times in Hurry Scurry,
Quads, Barrels, Birangle, and two supreme times in Speed barrels and single stake and
Hurry scurry on a saturday set up !
But the most awesome ride of the whole weekend goes to Roberta Jiracek who got a
supreme speed ball of 6.948!! Along with this ride, she got a AAA+ in figure 8 stake,
speed barrels and Big T then got two more supreme times in Hurry Scurry and single
stake. Her single stake was a 9.148 ! You are doing just awesome Roberta !
These great times would not have been possible without the great arena and the arena
prep that is done by Rodger Odom. Just the right amount of water and good tractor
work, great job Rodg !
As always we had the great district 1 crew out working making sure the show ran
smoothly. The arena crew, Rodger and Skip. Phyllis did most of the computer input,
sign ups were done by myself, Danna Herchkorn and Pam Novinsky. Ben Novinsky
was our parking director on Saturday, and worked in the arena most of the day. Judges
were Skip Hofman, Pam Novinksy, Rodger Odom, Arlene Tsuji, Mindi Sullivan,
Gayle Lewis, Richard Holland and myself. Apprentice judges were Rachel Crill,
Dennis Cole and Chris Rowles. Booth help was Lesa Hofman, Laura Rice and Crystal
Sullivan.
A big thank you to the “Beaner Brothers” Joe and Angel Munoz, who ran the snack
bar once again. Without them, we would have had some starving people out there.

DISTRICT 5
RIO LINDA/ELVERTA AREA
LATE NIGHT RIDERS
By Charlie Moore
Happy Mothers Day to all you wonderful moms out there that are responsible for
CGA’s many riders of all ages.
We were rained out of our March 1 show by February rain that made a lake of the
arena. That was followed by very dry weather and March 15th was looking good right
up to the prediction for major rain on Friday night through Saturday morning. Although it hadn’t yet rained a drop, our board cancelled the show. It never did rain a
drop and March 2008 nearly went on record as the driest in Sacramento history. So of
course we were certain that we would have the March 29th show! Right?
The predictions were once again for rain (but only light rain) for Friday night and it
was SUPPOSED to stop at midnight. Great, the arena was bone dry and could take a
lot of water before it became too wet to ride. The rain started around 1:00 p.m. on
Friday afternoon, very light as promised. Still raining, but not so light anymore, when
I went to bed. Still raining when I got up at 4:00 a.m. to feed. Puddles on the driveway, not a good sign. Still raining when I loaded to leave for the arena at 6:30 a.m.
Did I mention that there were now puddles on the pavement? Got to the arena, still
raining too hard to tack up. Starting to worry about the rain not stopping and the
ground getting too wet. Bless Bruce White for not putting too much water on the
ground on Friday. It looked really good. But would the rain ever stop? It was
waaaaaaaaayyyy past midnight. I think weather forecasting is the only job where you
get paid for being wrong at least 50 % of the time.
Finally, at about 7:30 a.m., the last sprinkles fell and while it was cold, cloudy and
windy, at least it wasn’t raining. Other than having to move Big T to drier ground
when a pony went down at the first barrel, the show went great. There were a couple
of “sticky” places but the ground was safe and we even had some AAA+ rides with no
more falls. Thank you Lisa Bradley for proving that you know your ground. Lisa got
her Big T AAA+ on the drier and safer ground.
Well, almost no more falls. Casey Milko did go off in the warm up arena and we had
to call the ambulance but he is okay and nothing was broken. Get well quick Casey.
So, our first show of 2008 is finally in the mail and I finally have some news for the
paper. Whew, am I ever glad to get that first show done. We had a really good show
and started right on time. There were 43 riders so we didn’t have to split the arena. It
was a nice relaxed show and everyone seemed really happy to be riding. We had a lot
of District 49 folks show up. Thanks for making the long drive from the Paradise
area. It was great to see Anna and Steve Gilbert both on new horses. Also making the
drive was Scarlett Kettell and daughter Crimson King plus Chanter and Heather
Johnson and Cheryl and Jennifer Braswell and Misty Sultzbaugh. Thank you all for
coming. A big surprise at the sign up was seeing Kim Vollmer who was supposed to
have moved last fall. It sure was great to see her back because she is just a great rider
and helper. A big welcome to new riders at District 5 - Heather Weaver on Freedoms
Bell in the FC 13-19 Division; Shannan Knowles on Junior in the A Division; and
Sandy Gerhardt on Dundy in the A Division. We hope you all had a great time.
The Late Night Riders wants to say a special thank you to Robyn Thornton for
bringing a bunch of her girls to work the show. In the announcer booth and writing
times all day in the cold wind were: Gene Moore, Miscelle Ward, Robyn Thornton,
Jody Abel, Jessica Hahn, Tiffani Shiro, and Gayle Sultzbaugh. In the arena judging
we had: Teresa Barosso, Lisa Bradley, Charlie Moore, Jody Abel, and Nelda Reyes.
Nobody swings like District 5 and we don’t mean dancing. Gate Swingers all day
were - Jody Abel, Nelda Reyes, Cara Miller, Teresa Rose and Jessica Hahn. Thank
you ladies for a great job. Helping set up and take down the events out in the arena
were: Selena Gayden, Taaron Moore, Kasandra Robinson, Jessica Hahn, Heather
Weaver, Rebecca Weaver, Kim Vollmer, Hunter Rogers, and Marissa Stevens. Thank
you all for doing the work to make the show happen.
Our Free Show drawing for Workers Only had enough coupons for two Free Shows.
The winners were Teresa Rose and Jody Abel. Congratulations Teresa and Jody. Our
Free show Coupons are worth $30 and only workers can enter the drawing. When
there are more than 15 coupons in the Worker Drawing we always draw two riders. In
addition to worker coupons all District 5 workers get free sodas and water from the
snack bar.
The Mystery Jackpot was the very last event, Keyhole, and the pot was pretty good for
only 43 riders - $115.00.
1D - Jeannette Stewart on Turbo won $46.00 with a time of 7.801
2D - Jennifer Braswell on Miss Flash won $34.50 with a time of 9.138
3D - Heather Johnson on Buddy won $11.50 with a time of 11.057
4D - Chanter Johnson on Shilo won $11.50 with a time of 14.920
5D - Andrea Brymer on Mini won $11.50 with a time of 16.759
You can’t win if you don’t enter. Very seldom do the same riders win back to back
jackpots, even in the top 1D. That’s because it’s never the same event. And even the
3,4 and 5 D’s doubled their money. So next show give yourself a chance to win and
enter the Mystery Jackpot.
Highpoint was a Leather Headstall and Reserve was a coil hose with sprayer.

Howdy from District 6! We had a great show on April 5, with 43 riders who came out
to bear the elements and were eventually thawed by the sun after a VERY cold morning.
Hmmm so many things to mention:
The events went very smoothly thanks to our judges Dave and Dan you guys do an
incredible job at keeping things moving so efficiently. We had some new faces
volunteering in the announcer’s booth thanks for stepping up to all those that did!
A HUGE WELCOME or WELCOME BACK to Joyce Barton and her horse Chief, Katie
Fish and her horse Jazz, Joy Johnson and her horse Cowboy, Sara Guidotti and her horse
Bell, Jacy Colen and her horse Beau and Caprice Tennefoss and her horse Chloe!
Congratulations to Rachel Nelson when she wasn’t performing acrobatics with her horse
she was breaking the arena record on Lilly her pony by setting a new arena record in speed
barrels at 11.747
Special thanks to Terri for her great snack bar and AWESOME awards. Thanks again to
Western Saddlery for their generosity and ongoing support of District 6!
Looking forward to seeing you all again at our next show May 3!

DISTRICT 8
TRI-COUNTY RIDERS - SALINAS AREA
By: “CJ”
This month at CGA District 8 has been both exciting and surprising, with everything
from sun, rain, to HAIL! This district has been through it all. The 3/15 show started
off with our board members working hard the evening before to get the arena measured. It took a lot of work and it was super cold, but the four girls with the help of
Billy stuck it out and got the job done. While Noemi and Arlene were finishing up
some stuff for the show, Cecilie and Jamie went off to go catch chickens. Yes,
chickens, earlier in the day Billy and Deb, the managers of the Posse grounds, noticed
there were some chickens by the road and they were worried about them since they
were so close to the road, so it was up to the girls to save the day! There were two
chickens and they caught them both, well actually Cecilie caught them both and Jamie
learned a few things from her. They gave the chickens some pretty awesome names
Debra and Becca! They also called Debra the pimp chicken because once they caught
it they got to hold it for a long time and the chicken just cruised right along with them.
The next morning bright and early the show begun, Billy came down to tell the girls
the good news that the chickens had stayed in the barn and seemed to be very happy to
have a home, good work you two! Although the show started a little late many riders
showed up and competed at their fullest even though it might have been the coldest
day in history, well at least it felt like it!
Kayla Raitz scared us all a little when in Poles 2 her horse took a little stumble and
almost went down, she came out still on him with only a small cut in his mouth. Great
job Kayla for staying calm and staying on! Glad you and your horse are ok.
The Monte Vista Horseman’s Club came and joined us once again, all of them rode
great and had a blast, thanks for coming Martin Chiang, Miranda Munch, Tyler Fox,
Anna Sowles, Kayla Raitz, and of course their amazing trainer Rena Agostini.
We want to give a special thanks to Phyllis and Rodger Odom, Sheri Herchkorn, Lisa
and Skip Hoffman for coming and helping out all day at the show, these guys were
there to help from the crack o’dawn to the very end, without them the show wouldn’t
of gone half as well as it did. You guys were awesome and we were so grateful to have
you.
A big welcome back to Yvonne and Jamie Lee, thank you guys for coming out and
riding with us again, we love seeing you guys and watching you ride. Congratulations
to Jamie Lee and your new mare, she is so cute! Yvonne you’re an amazing lady, we
love when you’re on the gate because you make the kids happy, but get them in and
out quickly at the same time.
Was that really Rodger Odom riding a horse? Rodger came out and schooled Phyllis’s
horse Splash. It was the first time he had rode in a show in forever, so it was pretty
cool to see him ride, since he’s usually on a tractor.
Jeff Arabia was a blessing, he announced all day and did a great job for his first time
and with a split arena. A big thank you goes out to Jeff and Pam, they’ve generously
donated a saddle for the 3rd Annual Firecracker Frenzy, THANK YOU!
Chris and CJ came all the way from Bass Lake just to help, it’s pretty long way to
drive to get your rears put straight to work. They came down the night before so that
they could get good sleep and give it their fullest on show day, and you know what,
they did. You guys are seriously the best.
Things were a little different this show, the weather was CRAZY!!!! It started off
really cold, thought maybe we were in Alaska and it got worse from there. We got the
second to the last event of the day when it started to rain. The weather report was for
rain so we were prepared for that, but we weren’t expecting HAIL! Yup that’s right
one event from the end of the show it started hailing like mad, it hailed so hard that
everyone got soaked to the bone, all of the horses were loaded in the trailers and the
truck beds looked like they had snow in them. Unfortunately, the ground got too wet
and we couldn’t run any longer, but at that point nobody cared because they got to tell
all their friends they rode in the hail. Especially Pam Arabia who was in the middle of
her run when it hit! Sorry about that Pam, hope you’re dry now.
Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, the show was great and everyone had fun.
Thanks again to all our workers and riders who came out to the show.
Believe it or not we’ve had another show since then, on hand again were Chris and CJ,
this time they brought their horse Solet, a sweet horse that was going to leadline 3 year
old Mariah, but sadly the night before after having to brake hard to avoid an accident
she fell in her trailer. She was stuck and unable to get up. They took her to Steinbeck
and with their help pulled her out. Thankfully she was ok just a few small cuts, but
they decided to leave her overnight to make sure. Poor Mariah this was to be her first
show and she was very sad. In the end she did get to ride. The 2g’s brought Sassy for
her and she ended up having a blast. YAY Mariah!
Welcome to new or returning riders, Lauren Hampson, Dan Meakin, Makayla Meakin,
Krista Williams, Tiffany Hodges, Mia Pritchard, Ricardo Cortez, Daniel Duran, Jose
Rocha, Jakklyn Springer, Mary Sulivan-White, Mariah Price, Imogene and Tessi
Farrar, we hope we didn’t miss anyone, if we did we’re sorry and let us know so that
we can mention you next time.
Congratulations to all our riders who got some awesome times, Cecilie Garcia and
Smokin Baby got their very first AAA in Keyhole, good job you two. Dan Meakin
after some time off ran a few AAA and many AA times, great job! Martin Chiang got
his first AA time in flags, GO MARTIN! Jesslyn ran her first AA time at this show,
congrats! Makenzie Clark ran A times most of the day and ended up bumping up into
AA for flags, wow you’re amazing Kenzie! It was great to see Tobo back in action.
Was that Mary on Pedro Sanchez, where’s Bre? We hear that Dora ran her fastest
ever Keyhole. Demelza Perez, Smiley, did very well riding two horses and pulling
times from all over the matrix, WOW! Mackenzie Mossing great job with your first Hi
Point win! Congratulations to all the riders, you’re all doing great, again if we missed
anyone sorry just let us know so we can acknowledge you next time.
Thanks again to Jeff Arabia for announcing all day. Special thanks to the Feenan
family for running the booth, allowing Deb Gray to go home early to work on a school
project. It was awesome for you guys to come down to help even though Emilie
wasn’t riding. Deb Gray and Tammy H made a special appearance to lend a helping
hand as well. We should mention Deb Meakin, Kim Moore, and Noemi Beisker for
doing just about everything, thanks! To all of the helpers in and out of the arena a huge
thank you, we could not do this without your help.
Just a little reminder, our 3rd Annual Firecracker Frenzy Saddle Show is coming up
soon, so riders don’t forget to mark your calendars. Also we are still looking for
sponsors, so ask your friends, if you donate enough for a saddle your show is free!
Wear those helmets and ride safe!

SIMI VALLEY RIDERS
by Lynn Piper

As of the publication of this issue of the paper the following shows have not
been posted in the State Office either because they have not been received or
because of missing or insufficient information in the show packet.
Saturday, April 5th was another action packed day of equine fun. The entire day was
filled with ponies Hurry Scurrying, FC riders moving up into A times, and long-time
riders getting in some practice for our upcoming 2-day show. From ages 5 to 75 the
riders were grinning ear-to-ear as they made the most of a day out with their horse
partners. Our jackpot was Big-T and when it would look like one of our riders had it
cinched up then along would come someone else and beat their time. This happened
repeatedly until Mariah Greenslitt strolled into the arena and ran an arena recordbreaking time. Everyone held their breath as she made a flawless run and on her way
back the screaming & hollering of the crowd was deafening. There is nothing like
gymkhana for good sportsmanship. Everyone is excited to see any rider make a
fabulous run and turn in a great time.
Once again, Jim Arnone & Curtis Cox generously donated $500 to our club. THANK
YOU!! Jim & Curtis, you guys are awesome!
April 5 High point & Jackpot results:

RAILHEAD RIDERS - SANTA MARGARITA/
PALOMA CREEK AREA
By Coleen Pemberton
Welcome back readers. Didn’t write over the Winter because there are no scheduled
shows due to the holidays and weather and I think, everyone needs a little time off
now and then, especially our 4 legged furry friends.
Had almost normal rainfall this year and came in the matter or about 3 or 4 storms.
The wild flowers and green hills are just beautiful!!! You wouldn’t find a prettier and
convenient place to ride and have fun. In fact, our first show at Santa Margarita was
cancelled due to our dry creek not being so dry. Unfortunately, a few of you showed
up to find the arena empty. Always call those listed if we have had any rain that week
to insure there is a show. At todays fuel prices, you can’t afford not to. The membership is influx right now that our leaders would have to call about 60 + to reach the 30
or so that intended to come.
Also, check the schedule particularly pertaining to Paloma Creek. Because of the
upcoming heat, they change to night shows. Our schedule is posted at the end of the
newsletter. Well, things are back up and running. We did have Paloma Creek on the
15th. I couldn’t attend so I don’t know of any special highlights to think of.

Well it’s hard to believe that another season has come and gone. Our last show April 6th
had a great turn out with 42 riders. Our picnic will be sometime in June. Flyers will go out
when the date is confirmed.
Thank you to everyone who helped out this year. Without volunteers our club wouldn’t
exist. Keep in mind for next season if you would like to put you’re input on year end awards
or like something changed, you can always volunteer to be on one of the committees. I hope
everyone has a great summer and ride safe!!

Hello Riders and Friends!
Our March show was the first of the Spring Silver Cash Series, with the series to
continue into April and conclude in May. With our $50 in each event 5D and the
Silver Dollars we gave out for first place, our riders were pleased to discover RCMM
gave away over $450 in cash for the March show alone. At the conclusion of this
series, we would have given away $3,500 in cash awards alone! Very Exciting, come
play with us and bring home some cash!
Our Joint Tractor Show with Glen Avon Comancheros went very well. The show ran
exceptionally smooth and many thanks go out to our Arena Crew; Randy Young, Brent
Engelhardt, Janet Young, Rusty Holifield, with much assistance from Gerald Freidman
and Rita Newell. Of course, the show couldn’t have gone on without our exceptional
office workers! A big thank you to Michele Easel, Diana Wehrli, and Kelly Centeno.
And for a final thank you, a big one at that, to Rick and Cynthia Long for putting on
the BBQ and hosting the Cook Shack on Sunday. Everybody loved their burgers and
hot dogs and both clubs look forward to the return of the Longs for our June Show!
Big News!! RCMM will be playing host for Debbie Langdon Clinics at our arena, the
Sunday following our April and May shows. This will be a 5 hour Barrel, Poles and
Gymkhana events clinic with 8 riders per day. As many of you are aware, Debbie is an
exceptional trainer, Barrel Racer, and coach. Debbie will be joined by her daughter,
Stephanie Langdon. This is an incredible opportunity for our riders and spectators! If
you are interested in improving your skills, breaking a bad habit, or just getting better
times, please check out the RCMM web page for more information: www.rcmm.org
And finally, RCMM with be Co-Hosting Spring Classic with Glen Avon Comancheros
as well as V-Spurs. As a co-host, we will have Spring Clinic entry forms at our April
and May shows. We will even save you the cost of postage! Turn in your entry form
as well as your check to us at the next show and we will turn it into the CGA office for
you!!

CASTLE COUNTRY RIDERS
http://www.cga27.com
By Carole Lindstrom
March 8 was a great day for Gymkhana and 45 riders joined us at the Ione arena for
the final tune up show before our Buckle Series. All day long you heard the same
complaint, “I don’t know which division to sign up in!” It seems, except for a few
lucky riders, our horses aren’t very consistent and are running in two or even three
different divisions in the various events. Pretty frustrating when you are trying to
decide where to sign up for the buckle series. Next show the decisions have to be
made and we’ll see who made the best guess.
It was nice to welcome back Michelle Battista and Winner and see them compete in all
the events. We could see the old form coming back with some very impressive times.
Both Michelle and Winner are looking good.

March 22, 2008
The first day of our Buckle Series dawned bright and sunny and 50 riders showed up
to participate. After sign ups a board meeting was held to discuss distribution of the
awards. There had been much discussion among participants about the problem of
only getting points in the division signed up in and not being able to “bump up.” An
emergency board meeting was held and after some discussion it was decided that a 1
division bump up would be allowed and all participants were given the opportunity to
change their sign up division before the first event began. Only one participant took
advantage of this change.
We were delighted to welcome Wendy Hagerman and her daughter Sydney to our
show. It is so great to see Wendy riding again and Sydney is certainly taking after
Wendy making that horse run. Way to go, Sydney.
The competition was fast and furious and there was lots of friendly jostling going on.
It was sure great to see the Morgan family back again. We’ve missed you guys. We
all love to watch little Gidget fly around the arena with K.C. at the controls. It’s nice
to see Amanda Martin and Super Ricochet get some serious competition. Go Gidget!

MOTHERLODE WRANGLERS
By Kimberlie Roscelli
joyent@aol.com
Hello good weather! Although we still have possible spring showers, Dist. 32 has been
running pretty smoothly thanks to constant participation of volunteers, from riders to
parents. I have to say that it makes the biggest difference in running an efficient show.
Everyone seems to know about the volunteer sign up sheet now which makes it easy
to help. Another big thank you goes out to all of you who are doing early registration.
It allows those who ride and do registration to have time for their horses, (thanks
Debbie Frates) and the other morning helpers.
Starting with our March 2 show I noticed that a lot of riders have added horses. I like
the backup system, if one doesn’t do so well you’ve got a second shot, unless your like
me and all my extra horses are in training so I never know quite how its going to go
but it keeps things exciting. The weather was nice which always brings a better
turnout, although we only had about half of the members I know are out there. This
was the same for our March 30. I really want to encourage our current members and
new members to come see us, we have made so many improvements and added a great
year end award program to our local members, so put our May 31 show on your
calendar.
As always thanks a lot to our volunteers and dedicated riders. Keep riden!

We had fun and a little excitement at the show just ask Toria Rowland and Spanky, guess
he did not want to do Poles II. Pictures can be viewed on Dave Cantrells wonderful website
at www.cantrellassoc.com, they are on the pictures of the month. Way to Cowgirl Up
Toria.
Our next show is on April 13th, 2008 with sign ups at 7:30am , Grand Entry and tack check
at 8:30am. First event at 9:00am.
Hope to see everyone at Spring Classics Memorial Day weekend at Camp Pendleton Area.
Until next time, ride hard, ride fast but most of all have FUN and wear your Helmet.
DISTRICT 40 - SANTA MARIA AREA
CENTRAL COAST RIDERS
By Laura Rice
Hello Riders,
Sorry there hasn’t been a newsletter for our district for the last couple of months. Please
accept my apology. Lots going on with an ill father and my Internet service was messed
up too. But now we are good to go. If any member would like something printed in the
newsletter just e-mail it to me after the gymkhana. Deadline for the newsletter is the 10th
of the month for the next month’s edition.
Our April 6th show was kinda crazy when a lot of new riders were early to sign up and I
was 10 minutes late. OOPS! We had a total of seven new riders! We would like to
welcome our new riders: Jamie Beaver on Justy, Laura Feldpouch on Kitty, Krista
Williams on A Rippin Zippin Dude, Mikaela Chandler on Echo, Tristan Compton on her
pony Brownie, Luke Cavanillas on his pony Flicka, Taylor Lenay on her pony Bently, and
Allison Wahlig on Hannah. Crystal Noller was riding a new horse Oscar. We had a total
of 27 riders.
We did have a little excitement when Laura Feldpouch finished her single stake run. It
looked like her horse stopped suddenly causing Laura to loose her balance and fall off right
at the gate. Kitty then decided to try and jump over the gate. Both horse and rider were
Page 17
fine. Laura thought that because she runs at home in a smaller arena her horse thought she
ran out of room. Well, we are just glad that they are OK!
Hi Point winners: AAA Jeanette Veino/Charley. Res AAA Darbie Pond/Copper. AA
Jamie Beaver/Justy. A Shelby Dugger/Reignon. FC 12-under Cole Anderson/Joe. Res
FC Ashley Auhll/Nelly. FC 13-over Jaime Donati/Slick. We had three Leadliners:
Tristan Compton/Brownie, Alexius Jones/Spider, and Wyatt Jones/Spider.
Thanks to all the riders, family members and friends who helped put on the show. It takes
a lot of time and effort to run the shows smoothly and in a timely fashion. We are all
volunteers who do this mostly for the kids and it is great to see everyone pitching in. We
would like to thank Christopher Rowles and Wes Handy for helping Bob judge the show.

Congratulations to Jeanette Veino, Allyson Shiffrar, Kayla Chavez, Nicole Duran, Kelsie
Pond, and Sierrah Madrigal. These ladies are Sponsor Flag Carriers for the Elks Rodeo.
Darbie Pond is also a flag carrier for the kids day. They will also be carrying the flags in
the parade. You guys rock!
We would like to recognize our ROC riders Nathan & Christopher Rowles and Renee
Ledesma. Nathan rode at District 18 on Sunday getting his third AAA+ run in Speedball
with a 7.2. Nathan has now closed out Birangle, Hurry Scurry, Quadrangle, and
Speedball! Way to go Nathan!! We are so proud of you! Chris ran a supreme run in BigT in January, and a supreme run in Speed Barrels in February both at District 18. Chris that
is awesome! Renee was running Speed Barrels at Districts 18’s January show when her
horse decided to jump over the last barrel coming home. Renee lost her balance and fell
off Poco landing her in the E.R. with a mild concussion. She was released that night. Had
us all a little scared. But she is back in the saddle again. You go girl!
In our quest for the ROC riders to make Hall of Fame and for our other riders to get their
times, District 40 had a total of 7 riders at District 1’s two day Shamrock Show: Allyson
Page 18
Shiffrar, Christopher Rowles, Nathan Rowles, Kayla Chavez, Renee Ledesma, Sierrah
Madrigal and Cory Martin who was back to riding after taking a little time off this season.
If any of you want to go to a really fun and really fast arena, District 1 is great. Located
in Gilroy, District 1 is about three hours from Nipomo. We camped out at the arena, some
sleeping in the horse trailers, some in tents, and of course Nathan, who insists on sleeping
in the truck. We had a little rain and it was pretty chilly, but all in all the horses ran pretty
good. We had two people become ill. Tom Shiffrar, Allyson’s husband, spent most of
Saturday sleeping in the horse trailer with what he thinks may have been food poisoning
from a hamburger in Templeton. Then we had Kayla with a sore throat. She was a trooper
and managed to keep riding even though she was sick. Allyson’s horse Saintly Pepper aka
“Shugs” decided to keep going after she finished her event. Thus, leaving Allyson behind
landing her into the fence posts. She was pretty shaken up but managed to walk out of the
arena OK. Chris, Nathan, Renee, Kayla and Sierrah all managed to run AAA+ Runs. You
guys are Awesome! They gave away really nice belt buckles with shamrocks and a pot
of gold for hi-point. None of our riders won high-point, but Allyson did win reserve AAA
high-point which was a really nice embroidered hay bag.
Our next show is May 4th at 9:00am. With sign-ups at 8:00am. Please call ahead to Janice
Vaughn to pre-register.
Happy Trails, Laura

March was once again a very busy month for our district members by not only participating
in our district shows but barrel racing for NBHA as well. Again, if anyone is doing
anything [shows, parades, trail rides, etc.] with their horses this winter we want to know
about it send the details & photos to cgadistrict45@yahoo.com, we want to brag about
YOU!
Our “Luck of the Irish” JACKPOT Show was at Novato Horsemen’s Arena on March
9th; and it was a huge success! We jackpotted all the events and paid out over $300 in
jackpot money! 12 lucky riders & their horses were our Jackpot Winners. Krista rode
both her horses & got 2 jackpot checks, Ashley & Sami each got a check riding their
Peruvians in FC, and 2 of our newest members got checks as well. How cool is that!?
…and the winners are:
Ashley Cooper – FC Horse
Sarah Hambly – AAA Horse

with Brittany as a Family last year, this was her gymkhana debut with Cody, and let me
tell you mom can ride! Brittany & Mariah breezed through Birangle with a AAA time,
and Megan did an awesome job helping her Aunt Jennifer by schooling Coco and
leadlining her cousins, the Tomko girls. Evelyn is the latest Peruvian Horse Club Member
to join us, and brought her horse to get used to all the hoopla but didn’t ride yet. Cassie
not only rode her pony but entered some classes on another one – little Tango, a new mini
breed – very cute! In addition to Linda, Sarah rode her friend Jackie’s Connemara mare
Kayla, and got an A time in Barrels her first time out. Shellie & Tori had a smoke’n Poles

Alejandra beat them by nano seconds, I’m telling you these Peruvians can move. Trish
& Jesse got an AA time in Speed Ball, Annette & Savannah got solid AA times, and
Claire rode both Stella & schooled her baby. Linda & Skky had some nice rides and did
Leadline with Jordyn, Kim & Kingpin are moving up and got mostly AA times once

to Karen Kilian for getting out there in the cold to drag the arena, and to Sue & Dave
Hambly for making sure the snack shack was open. We gratefully thank you!
Well we have turned into quite the diverse group of horsemen; we come from a background
of different disciplines, ride a wide variety of breeds, have many different skill levels,
boys & girls, men & women of all ages and we come together as friends and family to
have fun, challenge ourselves and to enjoy the ride. You are awesome!
Well that is all for now, we are looking forward to seeing all of you at the next show!

Well...we had an awesome Easter Show on March 22nd with 56 riders coming and
enjoying the beautiful spring weather! When we were planning our 2008 show
schedule, we did not realize that Easter was so early in March and that our show was
the day before Easter. I did not think we would have a large show due to spring break
and the holiday, but we sure were pleasantly surprised....especially since we had ten
lead-liners and more than forty kids participating in the easter egg hunt! Everyone
brought a bag full of candy-stuffed eggs and we must of had at least several hundred
eggs! Thanx everyone for making this such a special and fun show for our little ones.
We probably had over 100 people on the arena grounds and the snack bar was
extremely busy keeping everyone well fed. What a great family-oriented show.
The lead-liners were adorable...we had all ten of them come into the arena at the same
time and what a great sight! We should have pictures available of the kids in the arena
at the next show.
It was great to have Doc Sultzbaugh back in the saddle again on his new horse Penny
Lane..you have some serious competition with Shirley, Judy and Chanter. Look out
gals!!

We are cookin now! Also, Bob Bucks, club president, has finalized our new banner
for our new shed, WAY TO GO BOB!! We are all very excited to see the results and
to have our pictures taken in front of the banner. We have lots of pictues coming up
with the Silver Breast Collar Series starting in May. Don’t forget the dates May 4th,
May 18th, June 1st, and June 22nd. Rain date if needed June 29th. The breast collars
should be completed by the time this article hits print and as always, anything we
purchase from J.J. Maxwell Custom Saddlery is the best of the best. Get your ridin’
boots on!!! OH, and don’t forget to look for our ad in the Nickel, it’s GREAT, and has
all our show dates for this year.
I just wanted to add an extra THANK YOU to all the people who helped on the April
6th show, the first show that we split the arena. Splitting the arena takes a lot of help
and work. Scarlett Kettel, District 49, we love you. You are the best, we truly
appreciate your support. Candi Tucker, our head arena judge, always shows up extra
early to set up the events, THANK YOU! You really make a difference in how the
day runs. Candi is always at the arena by 6:30 or 7:00 am. Laurie Slocum and Laurie
Dennis we love you. The Laurie’s, as are often referred, don’t always ride and donate
their time faithfully to Shasta Cascade Riders. You are sooooo appreciated, you make
a huge difference. Butch and Barbara Thompson, along with Cassidy and Kory,
thanks for helping with sign-ups and setting up obstacles in the arena, we have to
have you, your a big part of making us happen, THANK YOU. Bill and Joan Moon,
THANK YOU again & again, your always there, we appreciate you. Irene Ledbetter
you were superb with the gate, having a split arena with one gate makes it a bit more
challenging, THANK YOU for your help. Sue Logan, Candie Voogd, Barbara
Thompson, Alison Wathey and I know some others I’m forgetting, Thank You for the
help with time writing, it’s a big job. Bob and Karen Bucks we missed you, due to
circumstances beyond your control. Bob and Karen were absent part of the show,
sorry you missed our smooth runnin machine, catch you the next go round. We’re all
glad everything is all right. Sorry if I missed your name and you busted your hinny out
there, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. For anyone who missed our show,
WE WERE AWESOME!!!!!
I nearly forgot to mention Brooke Bey and Alyssa Voogd. Brooke rode her first solo
horse show on her new pony Tater Tot. What a jewel he is. Tater Tot kept Brooke safe
and kept mom, Julie Bey, rooting and jumping up and down at the end of the arena.
GREAT JOB BROOKE!!! And Alyssa Voogd, what a big smile you have. I think dad
was pooped after running each event but both Dad and Alyssa had ear to ear smiles the
whole way through. You were a joy to watch.
Ok, enough chit chat. On to the winners. For our March 16th show we gave

SHASTA CASCADE RIDERS
By Kellee Cropley
Hi Everyone! WOW! District 50 is Busssssssy! We’ve had an excellent month
again. Our district has grown sooooo much that we had to invest in another porta
potty. OK maybe not what we want to talk about but this is really good news. We
work hard, people know it, and we show it. Our patrons truly appreciate us meeting
their needs and they keep coming back to prove it. WAY TO GO DISTRICT 50!!!! In
addition to our new porta potty, we’ve begun splitting our arena. It took a lot of
research and gathering of information to accomplish this but we’ve done it and it went
very well the first time. Kathy Byerly of Byerly Ranch has been most accomodating in
our newest venture. She has agreed to splitting the arena and putting in a second gate
to make things go even smoother. THANK YOU BYERLY RANCH, THANK YOU
KATHY!!! Part of our new venture included purchasing wireless timers, YEAH!!!!!!!

Bey I believe this is your first AAA Highpoint, WAY TO GO! Kathy Hammers, great
job on your new horse. Kathy picked up her new horse the night before and showed
up to show him off. Laurie Slocum rode Bubba in FC 40+ and missed Highpoint by
only a few points. Next time Laurie!! Nice to see you out riding Laurie. For those
who do not know, owning and riding a horse was a dream for Laurie, look at her now!

Family Team Award
CGA is a Family organization and in recognition of the many families
that ride together in CGA we offer a Family Team Award available to all
riders regardless of ability.
The Family Team Award is 60 days retroactive from the date of the
postmarked application or the show date if applicable. The $100.00 fee per
rider includes the Year End Award Level 1, Silver Buckle, Silver Breast
Collar Set. For an additional $20 the applicant can include both Level 1 & 2
Year End Awards.
The Family Team Award is a Special Jacket for each team member
embroidered with the riders first name and rating division on the front. The
back of the jacket will have a barrel racer figure (male or female) and the last
name of the "family" above the words "Family Team Member". All jackets
within a "family" must use the same last name. Teams may consist of
parents, children, grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles, or any other relatives
so long as the last name is the same.
All riders on a "team" must earn at least a FC rating in order to qualify
for the jacket. That means that all the riders on the team must complete at
least 3 good rides in at least 4 events to qualify for the Family Team award.
Each team member's jacket will reflect their own rating level and each
member will receive their own rating level for the year end award that is
included in the $80 fee.
This is a great way for the entire family to participate and work
towards an award that they can wear with pride.
Sign up today so that your family doesn't lose any rides. This is a fun
award to earn and a great way to enjoy gymkhana with your family.
Ride for Fun in CGA!

Explanation of 5-D Jackpots
For All CGA State Sponsored Shows
Note: District’s may alter all the Jackpot options as they choose for local shows running jackpots or
Mystery jackpots
Riders may optionally enter a jackpot for any or all of the regular events. The cost is an additional $5.00
per event, and a rider may choose to enter the Jackpot for none, some, or all of the regular events. These
jackpots are unrelated to the rider’s division or age, and whether or not they are riding a horse or a pony.
They are based strictly on the time the rider achieves in that event. Only the times of the Riders entering
the Jackpots count. The size of the payout is determined by the number of riders in the jackpot. The
Payout is:
Fastest ride
- 40 % of the jackpot
2-D ride
- 30 % of the jackpot
3-D ride
- 10 % of the jackpot
4-D ride
- 10 % of the jackpot
5-D ride
- 10 % of the jackpot
CGA - None. All jackpot money is paid back to the riders.
