For further information, visit http://www.shootinggamesshow.com/ Kalashnikov AKS 47 U Full Metal Cybergun is offering us a new replica in its Kalashnikov range, the AK47 SU. This short version of the mythical Soviet AK47 assault rifle is an AEG developing 0.9 Joules. It is shipped with a ‘High Cap’ 430 pellet magazine. It has two firing modes, Semi and Full Automatic. With a weight of close to 3 kg (2,950 g), it is a top-of-the-line model. The replica is provided with a battery and charger. Ref. : 120912 After his fourth win The European IPSC Speed Shooting Championships took place at the Cavaillon race course from September 12 – 21. At the event, Eric Grauffel won the title for the 4th time. This competition provided an opportunity for Cybergun to show off its new AIRGUN replica range. Eric Grauffel personally made the presentation of these CO2 replicas firing 4.5 mm metal pellets. The Sig Pro SP2022 was given its world debut! New high performance Ni-MH battery Cybergun presents Intelec batteries, employing a new battery technology in Ni-MH. Ideal for AEGs, they provide 1.5 to 2 times more power than Ni-Cd batteries. Since the voltage is greater as well, the rate of fire will be improved. They exist in six sizes with various power outputs. Battery charger In order to get the best from its new Ni-MH batteries, Cybergun now has two specific chargers in its product range. The first, so-called ‘Universal’ charger, is for batteries up to 12V. The ‘Automatic’ model looks after high capacity batteries and lets you re-charge them quickly. October 2007 3 Soft Air Mag COMPARISONS A Soft Air gun for between 40 and 50 Euros For the first time ever in Soft Air Mag, we are going to present replicas selected solely on the basis of price range. We will try to answer the following question: which replica can I choose within this budget? F or this first comparison, we have chosen a price range allowing us to show you both hand guns and long firearms, manual or ‘Spring’ models and gas models. Certain Soft Air guns have the very latest system of trajectory correction, BAX. You will find in this selection a gas replica Blow Back, the ‘must have’ item among replica hand guns. For each model, you will find a table summarizing the strong points (the pluses) and the weak points (the minuses). Although the whole world knows the difference between a hand gun (pistol) and long arms (rifles), the difference between Spring technology and the Gas Gun is not so commonly appreciated. So let’s have a brief review. Manual Soft Air guns or ‘Spring’ replicas are models that require reloading after each shot. By pulling back Soft Air Mag 4 the breech, pulling the pump-action on the S&W M3000 or raising the arming lever on the UZI submachine gun, you compress air in the piston and position the pellet at the entrance to the barrel. When you depress the trigger, the spring, which was also compressed, releases and frees the air. The pellet is projected and passes, as the case may be, through a trajectory corrector. The latter imparts a circular movement to the pellet so that it will be carried a greater distance. The other technology used is gas. Now it is no longer air which propels the pellet but a special gas instead. You do not have to recharge after each shot, so that you can have semi-automatic firing. As a general rule, the power of Gas Guns is greater than that of manual models. You will find in this category what are called Blow Back replicas. In these Soft Air guns, the gas serves not only to eject the pellet but also to cause the breech to recoil. The realism is gripping! So what will it be, Spring or Gas Gun? Pistol or pumpaction rifle? It’s up to you to choose… Text and photos: Stéphane Balle October 2007 COMPARISONS Retail price 50 € Taurus PT24/7 Brand: Taurus Model: PT 24/7 Type : Manual (Spring) Weight: 578 g Velocity: 90 m/s Capacity of magazine: 25 pellets Trajectory correction system: BAX Pluses The TAURUS PT24/7 is a sping but the slide stay backward when the mag is empty like a gas gun. Soft Air Mag TEST Sig P210 Packed with history The SIG P210 is a semi-automatic pistol originally coming from Switzerland. It was developed during World War II in response to a call for bids placed by the Swiss Army, which was disappointed with the Browning Hi-Power, as well as by pistols used by the French Army which seemed to them to be both too imprecise and too unreliable… Brand: Sig Sauer Model: P210 Type: Gaz Blow Back Weight: 680 g Velocity: 80 m/s Capacity of the magazine: 12 pellets Trajectory correction system: Adjustable Hop Up Enlarged cut-away view of the grip. We see the piston to the left and the return spring on the right Soft Air Mag F rom the end of the 1930s, the 7.65 Parabellum cartridge of the Lugar 1906/29 seemed ineffective compared to that of the 9 mm Para. Therefore the Swiss general staff decided to procure pistols taking the larger caliber. The competition for this government contract was principally between SIG and W+F, an arms producer based in Berne. The two competitors developed pistols having either single stack or double stack magazines. It is important to note that at the time the Swiss Army found pistols with large capacity to be less precise because of their more protuberant grip. The P210 was influenced by patents for the Automatic Pistol Model 1935 A (designed by Charles Petter, a Frenchman), purchased by SIG in 1937. The Swiss engineers offered in the competition two prototypes, named the SP 47/8 (8 rounds) and SP 47/16 (16 rounds). The SP47/8 was launched commercially in 1949 under the name P210-1 and became regulation equipment in Denmark, where it was called the SIG M/49. The result was a weapon that was truly very precise and very reliable. The Swiss eventually replaced it, beginning in 1975, by the SIG SAUER P220. It was adopted in 1949 under the name Pistole 49 by the Swiss Army, which was replacing its Luger Para- 8 bellum. The German Customs officers (Bundes Grenzen Schutz) and the Danish Army also adopted it. Technical Characteristics This short recoil pistol functions according to the principle of delayed opening of the breech which was developed by Browning. It was wholly constructed of The button on the magazine is located under the pistol grip. By pressing it to the rear, the magazine is unlocked. October 2007 TEST The quality of the markings is exceptional! You can discern the presence of a number engraved on the breech (photo on the right) but also on the ejection window. forged steel and it was assembled by hand. The bore depended on whether it was made for 7.65 mm Para, 9 mm Para or .22 LongRifles. It measures 215 mm overall, with a 120 mm long barrel. It weighs 900 g when empty. The capacity of its single-stack magazine is eight cartridges. Its manual safety is activated by a lever located on the left side of the frame near the trigger. The bolt of the magazine is situated under the hand grip in the military versions. Its sights are immovable. The weapon can easily be used with either 7.65 mm or 9 mm ammunition by just changing the barrel. However, the .22 training version requires that you change not only the barrel, but also the breech, the return spring of the breech and the magazine. The P210 is an expensive weapon that still enjoys considerable success in sports shooting, particularly the P210-5 and the P210-6 with 15 and 12 cm barrels. The P210 gave rise to many versions. Of which one is it a replica? Proof of sure quality, the breech of the P210 stays back when the magazine is empty, like the real weapon. Enlargement of the ‘head’ of the magazine. In red, the exit for the gas propelling the pellet. U will note the valve which, when hit by the ‘firing pin’ frees the gas. Text: Laurent Kachler Photos: Stéphane Balle The Sig P210 is delivered in a superb case marked with the Sig Sauer logo. Straight away we can tell you this P210 is a replica of the P210-6, a ‘sports’ version of the P210. The Soft Air gun is very faithful to the original model, whether this means respect for the dimensions or in terms of reproducing the markings and the hallmarks. Thus, on the left side of the breech we can see the serial number of the pistol, the SIG hallmark, as well as the marking ‘P210-6’. By the ejection window we find the SIG hallmark, the serial number of the pistol, as well as the caliber of the model on which this replica is based – ‘9mm’. Even the Swiss cross is reproduced on the top of the backsight adjuster. On the left side of the frame, near the safety October 2007 lever, the indications ‘S’ – for safety and ‘F’ – for Fire are reproduced. Furthermore, this replica weights 680 g and the capacity of its magazine is 12 pellets. The recoil is powerful, the shots are stable and constant, both in terms of power and in terms of precision. The adjustable Hop-Up system plays its role perfectly. You get good shooting trajectories right up to 20 meters or more. It proves itself to be very effective even in game mode, because it is also very responsive. The velocity of the pellets on leaving the barrel is on the order of 80 m/s. In conclusion, I find this replica to be very realistic, particularly due to the quality way it functions, its look and the history of the real P210. This replica is available under reference 280510. The safety has two positions: ‘S’ for Safety and ‘F’ for Fire. 9 Soft Air Mag ACCESSORIES The ‘Compact Set’ is a fabulous accessory! It combines a Class II laser and a 90-lumen Xenon flashlight. It can be mounted on any replica having a Picatinny rail. Its three-position switch lets you choose between the flashlight or the laser alone, or lets you combine both. This accessory is available under reference 263859. The ‘Compact Set’ consists of a flashlight and laser. A button located at the back allows you to turn the accessory on and off. On the upper part (see photo above), there is a 3-position switch (only flashlight, only laser, and flashlight and laser together). The Tactical Luxeon Flashlight is a 3 Watt light shipped with two Lithium batteries providing maximum operating time. The box also contains a mounting ring suitable for a Picatinny rail. Another feature of this superb tactical flashlight is its system of illumination: either you rotate the simple button or you install an extension that lets you control the light from the handgrip of your weapon. This accessory is available under reference 263862. The Tactical Luxeon Flashlight is attached to a Picatinny rail by means of its ring collar. Its switch, located at the back, can be replaced by an extender that is stuck on the hand grip of your replica. Thus, you can turn the light on or off as you wish. The Red Dot Sight is a high quality accessory that is very useful for Soft Air guns which have no built-in sight. It has 10 brightness levels which are adjusted using the cog wheel situated on the top of the accessory, turning from 1 to 10. Made of fiber-reinforced plastic, it is very resistant. The lens has been specially treated to enhance its solidity. This accessory is available under reference 263861. The Red Dot Sight from Swiss Arms naturally finds a place on a Picatinny rail. Mounted on the barrel of the AK47 assault rifle, it will provide the rifle with high quality sights. Text and Photos: Stéphane Balle Soft Air Mag 10 October 2007 plastic gear Adjustable metal gear metal gearbox TEST plastic gearbox Colt M16-A3 Phenomenal Power metal gearbox The Colt M16-A3 is a modified version of an assault plastic gearbox rifle created by Eugene Stoner at the end of the 1950s. Cybergun offers us a perfectly beautiful electric replica (AEG). I n 1994 the M16-A3 was adopted by the U.S. Army. The modifications relate to the fire selector switch. It still has two positions, but the possibility of firing in bursts of 3 rounds is replaced by a Full Auto mode. The other great change is the presence of a Picatinny rail under the carrying handle, letting you change sights. The technical characteristics of the Cybergun replica are impressive: a weight of nearly 3 kg, a High Cap 300-pellet magazine, 1 Joule of power, an adjustable Hop Up trajectory correction system and a metal Gear Box. The quality of fabrication give it incredible realism. The box prepared by Cybergun is also very successful. When you open it, you will find the replica, of course, but also a battery with charger, as well as two tools for adjusting the M16-A3. A small piece made of black plastic in the box will help you to adjust the sights. This replica is available under reference 180921. The cog wheel for adjusting the Hop Up system is located under the ejection window. To get access to the adjustments, you need only pull back the arming lever. The markings are of good quality and as you will see from the sticker, the 1.2 Joule power of the M16-A3 is considerable. Text and Photos: Stéphane Balle The battery is kept in a compartment within the stock and is accessed by activating a button with your finger, releasing a small cover. Note the presence of a fuse to protect your Soft Air weapon. The main feature of the A3 model is the Picatinny rail under the carrying handle. The latter includes in it the sights and can be disassembled. The realism of the Colt M16-A3 is so convincing that you truly have the feeling of holding the original weapon. The M16-A3 in its box. Note the batter charger, battery and one of the tools for adjusting your replica. You will find that the carrying handle has been disassembled. It is attached to the Picatinny rail using two nuts together. October 2007 11 Soft Air Mag TEST In the front part of the frame, under the barrel, there is a molded Picatinny rail which makes it possible to mount accessories such as a flashlight or laser. We’re talking replica This is a replica of the S&W M&P version for the .40 S&W. It’s the only replica of this pistol that exists up to now. Like the other most recently introduced products from Cybergun, this replica falls within the gas pistol range with immovable breech that works on CO2 cartridges. This replica is delivered in a complete pack consisting of the pistol, a magazine, the key for opening the compartment for the CO2 cartridge, a packet of pellets and the user’s instructions. Hand feel S&W MP40 CO2 Power at Uncle Sam’s Place It’s a tradition at Soft Air Mag to present a US model for your inspection. In this issue, we have chosen to talk about power, showing off this replica of the Smith & Wesson’s Military and Police handgun. Brand: Smith & Wesson Model: M&P 40 Type: CO2 immovable breech Weight: 500 g Velocity: 115 m/s Capacity of the magazine: 15 pellets Trajectory correction system: BAX T he S&W M&P (standing for Military and Police) series was presented to professionals during the summer of 2005. These pistols were intended principally for law enforcement officers and certain Army units, hence the initials M&P. Later a version intended for the general public was put on sale. The initials M&P were already used previously by S&W during the 1980s and referred to the better known revolver products made by S&W, notably the S&W Model 10. There are three versions of the S&WM&P. One is adapted to the 9 x 19 mm Luger / Parabellum; another takes the .357 SIG; and the third is for the .40 S&W. Whatever the version, the weight empty is 700 g. The total length is 190 mm, with a barrel length of 114 mm. As for the capacity of the magazine, it takes 17 cartridges in 9 mm and 15 cartridges in .357 SIG or .40 S&W. These pistols are fully ambidextrous. They have a breech stop on either side of the frame and the ejection button of the magazine is reversible. Soft Air Mag 12 Unlike the TAURUS PT24/7, this replica is transparent and not black. Moreover, the end of the barrel is red, like all replicas intended for export to the American market. This will not necessarily suit everyone’s taste. The only advantage, in my view, is that it lets you see the internal mechanism. This replica is faithful to the original model in terms of respecting the sides and the markings. Thus, on the left side of the breech you will find the markings “M&P 40,” “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MA U.S.A.,” as well as the S&W logo. On the right side of the breech there is a warning message in English just as on a real M&P 40: “This is not a toy. It is a replica firing 6 mm pellets. You should wear protective goggles to avoid injury to the eyes. You should read the manual before using. Made by Cybergun in Taiwan.” On the right side of the frame, you will find a serial number as well as the inscription “Made in Taiwan.” Finally, on each side of the grip, there is the logo “MILITARY & POLICE SMITH & WESSON.” Unlike the original model, this replica does not have an interchangeable base of the grip. But the hand feel remains good. Technical specifications The first thing that you note on this replica is that the magazine does not exceed the width of the frame as was the case with the early CO2 models. However, the CO2 cartridge is still housed inside the magazine. The trick is not in using a smaller capsule but in a new design of the internal mechanism and of the head of the magazine. This seems basic but it functions rather well. Thus, the period between changing cartridges is clearly greater to that of a SIGMA CO2, for example, because you can fire between 200 and 250 pellets with one sparklet. Moreover, the power is improved since all of the CO2 used serves to propel the pellet. The initial velocity of October 2007 TEST The presence of a Picatinny rail makes it possible to install a Compact Set or other accessories. The markings on the S&W MP40 are painted onto the frame, but conform in every way to the original inscriptions. The sights are immovable, but the three red points ensure rapid aiming. Enlargement of the magazine and the system of installing the Sparklet. the pellets as they leave the barrel thus reaches around 100 to 105 m/s, expending about 0.8 Joules. With respect to functioning, the stopper for the CO2 capsule is different from that of the SIGMA CO2, for example. It is made of plastic and now you need a specific Allen key (supplied) to open it. The capacity of the magazine is 15 pellets. The presence of the black plastic additions on the grip ensure that the gun feels comfortable in the hand. You will note the position of the ejection button of the magazine. It is immediately accessible with the thumb. The safety lever is located on the right side of the frame. It is in fact the stop of the breech. Once the safety is activated, you can press the trigger but the gun will not fire, since the trigger is no longer linked to the firing pin. But in reality, this safety has a major flaw. The mechanical locking is not sufficient and when you press the trigger repeatedly, the safety disengages on its own and firing again becomes possible. This could be dangerous. I would advise you to always remove the magazine when you want to secure it. As for the sights, they are immovable. the center of the target. I could not often do better than 7/8. This lack of precision is due to the firmness of the trigger. You have to apply a lot of pressure for the shot to go off. In conclusion, this product is original and well thought out, particularly for use in cold weather. This replica is available under reference 280510. Texte : Laurent Kachler Photos : Stéphane Balle Finally, the M&P 40 has a non-adjustable BAX system that performs its role correctly. Thus, the shooting range is 40 meters, with an effective reach of targets 15 to 20 meters distant. The M&P 40’s performance in shoots Though the M&P 40 is equipped with a precision BAX system, the results when shooting at targets are disappointing. It is difficult to group shots and even to reach Recognizable markings of a Soft Air gun available on the American market: the end of the barrel is bright orange. Enlargement of the safety of the S&W MP 40 CO2. When positioned on the right you can activate the trigger and the shot will go off; when on the left, your Soft Air gun is in safety mode. For the European market, the M&P40 is black. More realistic... October 2007 13 Soft Air Mag TECHNOLOGY the battery in question (C). To be explicit, a 1 Ah battery can be charged to around 1A. The charging process will take around one hour. It is also possible to recharge it in 30 minutes at 2C if you use a suitable charger. The Charger is essential The power of NiMH Batteries Create a Revolution Batteries have changed a great deal over recent years. The Ni-Cd technology, which was deemed excellent in the 1980s, is nowadays considered to be environmentally unfriendly. For this reason, it has largely ceded its place to NiMH, which are modern, clean and now mature products. Ni-MH batteries overcome the principal shortcomings of Ni-Cd, such as loss of ‘memory,’ meaning recharging capacity over time. But the main advantage that arises from the move to NiMH from Ni-Cd is that given equivalent dimensions you get an increase of between 150 and 200% in the capacity available, meaning the number of shots per battery. Finally, the very weak internal resistance of these new batteries lets you keep a high level of voltage during very heavy demand for current such as is typical of our electric replicas (AEG). In practice, a higher available voltage increases the rate of fire. Batteries that are easy to keep alive Two chargers are available in the Cybergun range. The «universal» model is for batteries until 12v. The «automatic» charger is recommended for high capacity batteries and very fast charge. Soft Air Mag So that you can benefit from all these improvements, we are now offering a new range of Ni-MH batteries that are specifically suited for Cybergun products. These batteries are strictly compatible with Ni-Cd and rank among the best in the world. They were designed to be used in the most severe conditions such as R/C cars. They have been developed to combine very high capacity, very strong admissible current, negligible loss of recharging capacity and longevity. Their robustness means that they do not require any special care when used. In order to keep them in the best condition and for a long time, it suffices to recharge them with a good quality charger at regular intervals even when not used (every two months, for example). This care prevents loss of energy that is characteristic of Ni-MH batteries – called auto-discharge – does not discharge the battery too far, which can greatly reduce its service life. Once or twice a year, it is advisable to completely discharge the battery and then charge it fully again. For use in our AEGs, a good compromise in terms of charging current is at around one time the capacity of 14 To restore their full potential, Ni-MH batteries need to be recharged using a powerful and sufficiently precise charger that can detect without any possible error the end of the charge in an automatic and sure way. The precision of this detection, called Delta Peak, is essential to ensure the longevity and performance of Ni-MH batteries. The chargers which we offer obviously meet these demands. Their designs are suited to use with Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries, with a Discharge function for their maintenance and Delta Peak mode to ensure safety, tranquility and maximal charge. Finally, they let you discharge/recharge a battery when connected to the mains or via a cigarette lighter (12/24V). It is obviously essential that you scrupulously match up polarity before connecting a battery to the charger. The time needed to charge a battery obviously depends on its initial level of charge (a battery is rarely totally empty), as well as on the correlation between the capacity of the battery and the current of the charge. Thus, the approximate time for recharging a battery which is totally discharged is equal to its capacity divided by the current of the charge (t (h) = C/I charge). For example, a 3 Ah battery (3000 mAh) charged at a 1 A current will take around 3 hours to be charged. It’s quite logical. As regards the 2 Cybergun chargers, the Universal model is intended for batteries up to 12V and accepts a charging current of 0.5 or 1 A. The second model, called Automatic, intelligently chooses a number of elements and lets you charge 1 or 2 A. It is for this reason better adapted to high strength and very rapidly charging batteries (up to 2 C, i.e., charging a 1000 mAh battery in 30 minutes). As we have seen, these chargers have an automatic cut-off at Delta Peak. In fact, the charger determines the moment when the voltage in the battery has reached its maximum and will begin to fall again. This difference in voltage is called Delta Peak and it marks the full charge of the battery. You should be aware that if you use just any charger that at the end of rapid re-charging the voltage in the elements of the battery increases, raising the temperature of the pack, which can reach 40° C to 45° C. This means that your pack is charged. So a pack that feels slightly warm is a charged pack. The same phenomenon can occur during prolonged use. Ni-MH batteries perform best at between 10 and 30° C. If you wish to reduce their auto-discharge effect, you should keep them in a cool place. If you really want to enhance their performance, you should warm them just before using them (we are speaking here about the peak of performance and they should be heated mechanically and not by pressing their recharging). Specialists will recognize that we are at the other extreme compared to use of Ni-Cd, which could be stored empty and which were ventilated while charging. Take advantage now of the formidable advantages of the new Ni-MH batteries! Text: Marck Krief October 2007 NEW A GAME FOR ALL JUST FOR KIDS!
