PUBLISH NEW ITEMS ASAP
• Timely publications will eliminate manual keying and
related errors
– Initial manual item set up frequently provides poor data quality –
impacting both organizations
• Work with your rep so that all items to be presented to SV
have been published before presenting
• SUPERVALU accepts “preliminary” data as early as
possible
– We automatically update key weights and measure fields with any
changes
• Your rep still controls timing of the presentation to our
merchandiser

– At least 1 week before the merchant meeting (except
GM/HBC)
– GM/HBC should publish items that the merchant
accepts at the initial meeting

– Eliminates supplier data entry to create items in

• Global Data Synchronization Network™ (GDSN®) is the electronic transfer of standardized product and location information
– Continuous synchronization of that data for the life of an item
– Mandatory data elements (GTINs, Product Types and Product Descriptions)
– Attributes required in the supply chain (e.g. dimensions, weight and net content)
– Basic product marketing information (e.g. features, benefits)

• Wakefern interrogates the Trade Item Unit Descriptor to drive our new item process
–Developed a set of rules for each descriptor to drive efficiency and accuracy –Some Trade Item descriptors are interpreted to have conditional attributes needed for item set up
• MX – Mixed Mod containing multiple CA items • DS – Display containing one or more EA items
• PL – Pallet containing one EA or CA item

• Manufacturers use different unit descriptors for the same product packaging level
– Manufacturer #1 chose MX
– Manufacturer #2 chose DS
• Wakefern and other retailers have difficulty processing many item hierarchies containing MX, DS, PK or AP – Can not consistently process item data
– Disruption to the new item process
• With over 3,200 new displays/mix mods introduced in 2014, this has created numerous problems and delays in their processing

• The combination of ‘PK’ (Trade Item Descriptor) and the ‘specialItemCode’ attribute will need to be used to communicate this information (re ‘AP’ (Assorted Pack) )
• ‘quantityOfChildren’ can indicate the number of unique next lower level items that are contained, no longer relying on the ‘AP’, ‘DS’ or ‘MX’
• ‘MX’ and ‘DS’ have been saved from deletion
• New Attributes, – ‘IsTradeItemADisplayUnit’ and ‘displayTypeCode’ can communicate display information
– Indicates if the item is a display and the type of display

1. Once you have signed with a GDSN certified data pool, review the available documentation on the 1WorldSync landing page to become familiar with Wakefern’s processes and requirements, and your other retail customers.

2. Complete the Wakefern Data Sync Vendor Fact Sheet
– Return to datasync@wakefern.com 3. Wakefern will send a subscription for your data (Catalog Item Subscription CIS) based on your GLN to your GDSN – certified data pool.
– Prior to publishing data, verify that a subscription has been received for your item data (1SYNC users can verify using the “Subscription Visibility Report” on Item Management)

4. Register and load items into your data pool
– Ensure the accuracy of your product data (net content, pack, etc.)
– Load all item levels in your packaging hierarchy – Each, Pack, Case, Pallet
5. Use of Publication Types – Catalogue Item Notifications (CIN)
– New is used if a trading partner is introducing a new item.
– Initial Load is used to synchronize item data for items presently carried by Wakefern. All existing items must be synchronized using this publication type.
• Item Changes or Modifications are used for all Synchronized items to communicate changing item attributes.
– Delete is to be used when a item is being discontinued (not currently processed by Wakefern).
