The production uses improvisation and contemporary themes to illustrate the parables, bringing these lessons to life through the grand tradition of story theater. Overflowing with energy, this classic comes with a message of tolerance, kindness and hope through popular songs such as “Day By Day”, “Light of The World”, “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side”. Class will not meet on Friday, July 4. SESSION FIVE: July 21- August 1 Acting & Improvisation Ages: 6-17 • Time: 9am to 1pm • Cost: $295 Learn the basics of acting, improvisation, movement, vocal clarity, stage presence, character role-play and story development. Groups will be broken down by age and students will create their own original play to be performed on the last day of camp. No experience necessary. Musical Theatre I Ages: 6-10 • Time: 9am to 1pm • Cost: $350 All Classes meet Monday through Friday. Musical Theatre II Ages: 11-17 • Time: 9am to 1pm • Cost: $350 Instructors: Megan Donovan, Cat London, Ruben Nagy, Kerrianne Spellman Movement: Lauren Blake & Haley Long Learn the essentials of being in a musical cast through vocal, dance and acting techniques. Each group will learn scenes, songs and choreography from a popular Broadway musical. No experience necessary. Final performance onstage on the last day of camp. SESSION TWO: July 7- July 11 Instructors: Sheryl Linfante, Ian Moore, Ruben Nagy, Michael Olender All Classes meet Monday through Friday. Algonquin Glee Singers Ages: 9-17 • Time: 9am to 1pm • Cost: $255 Glee, unlike many vocal genres emphasizes a complete artistic expression on stage that involves singing, dancing, and acting. Glee performers will learn to sing and perform rhythmically. Music will be selected from popular songs of today. Final performance onstage on the last day of camp. Instructors: Michael Olender & Catlin Roman SESSION THREE: July 14- July 18 SESSION SIX: August 4 – August 8 All classes meet Monday through Friday. Royal Preparatory Ages: 6-9 • Time: 9am to 1pm • Cost: $255 Learn the songs and manners of Princes and Princesses. Stretch the imagination, creative dancing and develop body and vocal awareness through learned songs fit for a Prince or Princesses. Instructors: Mike Olender & Alexis Pellegrino All Classes meet Monday through Friday. Workshop: The Art of Auditioning On Camera Ages: 9-17 • Time: 9am to 12pm • Cost: $215 Lights, Camera, Action! Develop the right skills to ace that audition from a talent agency expert, Alison Swift. Each student can expect to gain knowledge of the business through segments of “selecting the perfect headshot” and “delivering commercial copy on camera.” Fun, improvisational activities will be exercised. Instructor: Alison Swift Actors Tool Box: Shakespeare Ages: 9 and Up / Time: 9am to 1pm / Cost: $250 Acquire the tools to perform in depth script analysis, achieve deeper understanding of language and story and the ability to take greater risks when making physical and vocal choices in performance. Director: Ian Moore & Co-Director: Julie Nagy Songwriting, Beginner Guitar & Vocal Studies Ages: 12-15 • Time: 9am to 12pm • Cost: $275 (*Includes Guitar Package) Inspire your unique "tune" as a beginner musician through a week study of songwriting, beginner guitar and voice. No prior experience necessary. Demystify the nature of songwriting and performing your own songs. Learn basic chords, note reading, music theory and rhythm in this collaborative music study. Final performance on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 7pm Shore Dance 2014: Ready for Prime Time A week-long residency with professional dancers. Ages: 7 and up • Time: 9am to 4pm / Cost: $295 Algonquin Arts Theatre welcomes Starbound founder and director Sandra Coyte who has recruited top dancers and choreographers from prime time television and the worldwide stage for this year’s week long Shore Dance intensive. Instructors’ credits include shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Glee” and the program will focus on getting participants “Ready for Prime Time” with training in floor barre, lyrical, Broadway jazz, hip hop and contemporary dance. Through the week, dancers and instructors will work together to choreograph a final public performance in which they will appear side by side on the stage. TEEN NIGHT Join us for a fun night of Improv Where: Algonquin Arts Theatre When: Friday classes to conclude Summer 2014 August 29th September 12th & 19th Ages: 10 and up • Time: 7:00-9:00pm • Cost: FREE! The teaching artists will customize an improv class based on social issues that are appropriate to class. Students can explore any one of the following areas: character development, bullying, emotional violence, peer pressure, pros & cons of labels and making choices.
