After he told me more about the organization and its mission, I said “So it’s industry people helping industry people who are facing a life crisis? Count me in.” Fast forward almost twenty years and I now proudly serve as the President of Ad Relief of Greater Los Angeles and I welcome you here today to our 31st Annual November Fundraiser. George, thank you for exposing me to this wonderful organization that has helped literally hundreds of people thanks to the generosity of caring people (such as you) who make up our vibrant industry. We have continued to provide financial and emotional support to our colleagues who need it the most. In fact, here are a few interesting statistics that help paint the picture of our current situation:our current situation: • In 2012, we have handled more cases than we did in any single year in the past 5 years • In 2012, we have disbursed more money to beneficiaries than we did for the previous 3 years • Disbursements in 2011 were 4 times greater than they were during the previous year and in 2012, they are already double of what they were in 2011 ADRELIEF.ORG 2 AD RELIEF OF GREATER LOS ANGELES PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE What this means is that now, more than ever, your continued support is critical to our ongoing work. We are all just one call away from a life-changing event that could place us in a position of needing help. Such a life crisis could happen to any of us at any time. I would like to extend a special thank you to those of you who have contributed to our November Fundraiser in the form of sponsorships, silent auction donations, show book advertising and to those who have contributed their time and effort in helping make today’s event a huge success. In addition, we especially want to thank Southern California Chevrolet Dealers Association for their gracious donation of the beautiful 2013 Chevrolet Volt as our Grand Prize this year. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we want to thank you for being with us today and for your generous support of our industry’s own charity, the Ad Relief of Greater Los Angeles. I wish you all continued success and a very happy Holiday Season! Dave Kovisto Ad Relief President ADRELIEF.ORG 3 THE 31 ST ANNUAL NOVEMBER FUNDRAISER WELCOME Nicole Levitt Executive Director We would like to thank everyone for attending our 31st Annual November Fundraiser. This event is a huge success because each of you are here today. As many of you already know, the mission of Ad Relief is to help those in our industry who, through no fault of their own, have fallen on bad times financially and emotionally. They may have experienced an injury, been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, or lost their home in a natural disaster. That is why Ad Relief exists. Like a family, we are here to be a safety net for friends and colleagues in our local advertising community. We have come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1972, granting over $2 million in critically needed supplies and services to beneficiaries. We could not have done so without the wonderful support we receive from event participants such as yourselves. At Ad Relief, we continue to find ways to involve you and the industry and you will begin to see some of these changes this coming year. We have already created a membership program that provides special benefits to our most dedicated supporters. We have a website at adrelief.org that will become the “go to” place for the Los Angeles area advertising community to post events, job changes and local industry news. And you can expect a couple of fun, new events in the coming years, which will raise Ad Relief’s visibility and inspire more people to support our work. Today, we have an exciting afternoon planned for you. We’d like to give special recognition to KNBC, Univision, KABC, KCBS/KCAL, KDOC-TV, Telemundo/KVEA, CBS Radio and Clear Channel Radio for their very generous support! Thank you all for joining us! All our best, Nicole Levitt Executive Director ADRELIEF.ORG 4 AD RELIEF OF GREATER LOS ANGELES congratulates the 2012 Lifesaver Award Recipient SUSAN FRANCESCHINI ADRELIEF.ORG 5 AD RELIEF OF GREATER LOS ANGELES 2012 LIFE SAVE AWARD Susan Franceschini Executive Director, thinkla Susan has spent the last 20+ years of her career immersed in the Los Angeles advertising, media and marketing community. A good portion of that was spent in Human Resources and recruiting for agencies such as Davis Elen and TBWA\Chiat\Day, and with her own company, AdJobsInc.com. Her early experience in HR and recruiting served as a perfect backdrop to her current role as Executive Director for thinkLA. For the past nine years, Susan has helped lead thinkLA to become the premier advertising and marketing association in the country. Under her leadership, the organization has flourished, including over 5,000 members and producing 50+ sell-out events for the industry each year. Since the beginning of her career, Susan has been involved with industry philanthropic partners, including the Multicultural Advertising Training Program, LA Futures Academy, and Ad Relief of Greater Los Angeles. In a collaborative effort to bring awareness to Ad Relief’s mission, thinkLA produces events such as Pokeraoke and AdJam, and coproduces Charity Golf Day, raising over $50,000 annually. Susan believes that if “we have the means to help, then we should do it. We all have a responsibility to support our peers.” Under Susan’s guidance, thinkLA’s latest endeavor is a partnership with Loyola Marymount University to launch mSchool: Institute for Marketing at LMU. The program will develop the next generation of marketing professionals who can make an immediate impact in the workplace upon graduation. mSchool will help fill the talent gap with a focus on core skills that are most relevant to today’s advertising roles, including social media management, creative content development, leveraging digital platforms to connect ideas and measuring effectiveness. Susan and the LA community she leads are spurring young advertising and marketing professionals to create, inspire and grow. All our best, Nicole Levitt Executive Director 28 ADRELIEF.ORG THE 31 ST ANNUAL NOVEMBER FUNDRAISER WELCOME Nicole Levitt Executive Director We would like to thank everyone for attending our 31st Annual November Fundraiser.
