PARKER SCHOOL 2014-2015 ANNUAL REPORT Class of 2015 PARKER SCHOOL founded in 1976 Mission Statement At Parker School, every student is known, valued and nurtured. Our small-school setting and dynamic program foster confident, compassionate individuals who are thoroughly prepared for college, who enthusiastically engage in life and who positively contribute to an ever-changing global community. 1 Table of Contents Message from the Board Chair 3 Board Membership4 Administrative Leadership4 Letter from the Advancement Office 5 Faculty and Staff 6 PTSO Executive Committee7 Financial Statement8 Annual Fund9 Golf Tournament10 Kahiau10 Class of 2015 2 13 John Richards Board of Directors Chair Aloha Parker School ‘Ohana, This year was a time of re-growth and the investments of time and finances allowed Parker School to weather the difficult economic downturn while maintaining the standards of excellence and spirit of the school. As our student body grows past 300 again, we all have the exciting opportunity to participate in the increasing forward momentum of Parker School. The academics of Parker School remain a model of excellence. With two U.S. Presidential Scholars in the last few years, seven of the Big Island’s twelve National Merit Scholar Finalists and a 98% AP exam pass rate, the success is undeniable. As a college prep school, the 100% acceptance of our 2014 graduating class to four year universities is another testament to the success of Parker School. Additionally, the integration of a full-time college counselor, Joanie Brotman, has not only assisted students’ acceptance into college, but connected them with the right college to maximize their potential. Academics and test scores are just part of the story. Parker School continues to grow in athletics, with successful paddling and soccer seasons. Performing arts shined with productions of the Twelfth Night, Cinderella and Aladdin Jr. While the arts department strongly represented in the 2014 statewide Congressional Art Competition with all three Big Island finalists from Parker School. Living on an island we all know the simple truth, no one succeeds alone. The outpouring of support for the school from both the school families as well as the greater community has been incredible. From the weekly success of the farmers market, raising 130% of our goal at the school’s annual Kahiau, to the ongoing support of the annual fund and scholarships, the schools continued success is a reflection of the generosity of the community. Plans to continue facility improvements, further implementation of the school’s new branding, recent addition of two class sections in the middle school, ongoing successful integration of the iPad initiative, increased student involvement in the community and a stronger connection with the alumni are just some of what will be continued and enhanced in the coming year. Your support is vital to our school’s operations and goals. Please join me, the Parker School board of directors and members of the community in our continuing investment in Parker School and the youth it teaches. Sincerely, John A. Because of you, we raised $121,061.88 towards the 2014-2015 Annual Fund, exceeding our goal of $100,000. We are extremely honored, as we know that each gift demonstrates a belief in the school’s mission and vision. Support for Parker School continues to thrive. Thanks to hundreds of donors, our school’s two signature events raised an impressive $253,000 in financial aid. Our 12th Annual Fairways & Friends Golf Tournament at Hualalai Resort on November 8 raised nearly $18,000, while our 10th Annual Kahiau dinner and auction gala at the Fairmont Orchid on March 7 raised a record $235,000 with over 280 people in attendance. Proceeds from both events directly support financial aid for our students. Mahalo to all sponsors, participants and donors for their support in making the Parker experience possible for all students. In addition, $70,000 was raised in restricted funds. These funds support the planning and implementation of a new K-12 robotics program and the purchase of two additional buses to grow our student and community enrichment programs. I invite you to learn more about the achievements of the past year outlined in this report. On behalf of Parker School administration and students, we deeply appreciate the generosity of our Parker School ‘ohana, faculty & staff, parents, grandparents, alumni, trust members, and board members in making these accomplishments possible. Thank you for your support. We strive to accurately publish our donor lists.
