The temperature of my region is cold but not freezing cold.
It rains almost all year.
shelter
My tribe and my region both had the same shelter called a plank house. For my region the shelter was
cedar wood. It was large and could hold up to ten families. They used long flat planks of cedar wood. To make
the house they cut down very tall trees, sawed them down to plank form then put the wood together with
notches. Other interesting facts are, Native American plank houses looked similar to old European houses.
The style of house was used on the Northwest coast long before Europeans arrived. For my tribe the
entrances was a large totem pole. The house was large 20-60 feet wide 50-150 feet long. All the relatives
lived in them. They were constructed of red cedar. My tribe made the shelter the same as my region did.
Food
This paragraph will be about what food my region hunted, gathered, and fished.
My region hunted deer, whales, fish and rabbit. They hunted the animals using
spears, bows, axes, tomahawks. First, they took the skin of the animal off then they
stripped it and hung it to dry and sometimes cooked it in the fire. My region
gathered berries, roots, fruit and lettuce. To gather the food they would bring big
baskets and pick the food of the trees or bushes. They prepared the food by washing
drying and sometimes cooking it. They caught salmon, cod, candlefish, halibut, bass,
hawkfish and horse fish. They fished using spears, nets or harpoons. They skimmed
striped and dried it to prepare the food.
What I was interested in learning.

I wanted to learn about how a tribe of the Pacific Northwest did different
things.
I also wanted to learn about the Pacific Northwest and how they made their
houses.
