In the spotlight No. 82 P A R I S N E W S // j u n e 2 0 1 3 Sightseeing with a difference on the water. Parisian boat trip companies vie with each other to offer more and more original boat tours to admire the wonderful places along the Seine and canal riverbanks. New itineraries, gourmet trips and shows are all part of a sightseeing trip along the water. Original guided tours On the Seine and canals, boat trips offer views of the capital’s finest monuments: Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais, Notre-Dame cathedral and numerous other historical buildings. The upscale Yachts de Paris offer an exclusive package for discovering the capital. Leaving from Port Henri IV, a luxurious fleet of yachts, synonymous with Parisian refinement and art de vivre, can be privately hired for talks on contemporary art, gardens and architecture; this can also include special access to major museums and exhibitions, cooking lessons … a whole range of subjects for a unique and unforgettable cruise, starting from 10 people. As well as classic boat trips, the Vedettes de Paris also offer an ‘Impressions de Paris’ boat trip on the theme of the Impressionist painters. Renoir, Monet, Jongkind, Morisot … all the major Impressionist painters chose the Seine as a model. A talk (in French and English) takes you back to the time of late 19th and early 20th century Paris to discover the inspiration and paintings of these great painters. The Vedettes de Paris has just launched a new boat and trip, the Batostar. Moored opposite the île Saint-Louis, this little electric boat, the only one in Paris, offers boat trips lasting 40 minutes around the historical centre of Paris. It navigates around the two islands to the Louvre and images of Paris in the Middle Ages are projected onto a screen so that passengers can get to the heart of the medieval city. On the quayside a large bar with a sun terrace, open daily and in the evening, is perfect for a relaxing drink before or after the boat trip. The Bateaux Parisiens offer a classic sightseeing cruise, leaving from the Eiffel Tower or Notre-Dame with audio guides in a choice of 13 languages. A bonus is the additional commentary about the more unknown side of Paris, provided on board by a hostess. Seeing Paris by boat remains the most delightful way of travelling through the city, by day or night. The Canauxrama boat company operates on the Seine and also on the canal Saint-Martin and the canal de l’Ourcq, the smallest navigable canal in France; several itineraries are offered leaving from the centre of Paris: original trips lasting from two hours to a day, or for an evening. Options include a musical cruise, a guinguette cruise, ‘old Paris’ cruise and even a horse-drawn cruise (as in the 19th century): all offer a real plunge into the Paris of the Parisians, presented in a lively fashion for groups and individuals. Paris Canal also offers various boat trips on the Seine and canals, aboard boats adapted to different types of itineraries: locks, guinguettes, restaurant or picnic … even the less well-known canal Saint-Denis is programmed, on request, taking passengers as far as the Stade de France and beyond via la Défense. Also on the programme, a boat trip along the river Marne and the river Seine to learn more about the Impressionist painters. Trips last from two hours to a whole day. The slow and gentle pace of the boats is an ideal pause from an often hectic stay in Paris! Batobus is an entirely different way of seeing Paris from the water: this shuttle boat operates every day all year long up and down the river. You can do the whole loop in one go or just hop on and off using the boat as a simple means of original transport. You can buy a one-day or two-day pass. A ‘Paris à la carte’ pass makes it possible to combine a Batobus pass with an Open Tour pass to give you total freedom between the bus and boat for two or three days, totaling 58 different stops throughout Paris. The lunch and dinner cruises offered by Bateaux-Mouches® are timeless moments on board a boat with a glass roof, panoramic windows and an upper deck, combining a sit-down meal and outdoor photo opportunities with leisure. Two options are available: ‘Paris pour un oui’ (Paris for a yes), reserved for real romantics, is an exceptional evening which includes a chauffeured car, a chance to meet the captain and a special table with roses, champagne and a commemorative photograph; the open air cruise-café invites you aboard for a lunch accompanied by accordion music, with dancing and a musical atmosphere all afternoon. Lunch and dinner cruises on the Bateaux Parisiens succeed in finding the delicate balance between a high quality meal, efficient and friendly service and relaxing moments with music. With an all-inclusive package, passengers benefit from a table with a view aboard a boat with panoramic windows, with a meal chosen from our à la carte menu and cooked on board. Musicians play throughout lunch and dinner, creating a timeless Parisian ambiance, or, depending on the day, a jazzy, or ‘glamour & pop’ atmosphere. At the Marina de Paris, lunch and dinner cruises take place on board boats with panoramic views, in a cosy atmosphere. Each night there are two dinner cruise packages to choose from; one is more informal and convivial, while the other is more chic and refined. Boarding takes place in front of the Musée d’Orsay. The menu presents a wide range of dishes to choose from (including vegetarian dishes), and a romantic option is available, with champagne, a special table and a commemorative photograph. Paris en Scène welcomes passengers right in the centre of Paris, in front of Notre-Dame Cathedral, for a one hour and 15 minute dinner cruise that is like no other: the food is freshly prepared on board, while the passengers Parisnews // paris convention and visitors bureau n0. 82 // in the spotlight // JUNE 2013 2 sit in comfortable armchairs looking out onto the panoramic view and then the dishes are served at their tables. During the dinner cruise, passengers are free to go out on deck to enjoy the scenery. There are several departures each evening, convenient for visitors, in particular for those who want to spend the rest of their evening doing something else, like going to a cabaret. A brunch package, which is unique to Paris, is also available on Sundays during a two hour cruise. Downstream, near the Eiffel Tower, Capitaine Fracasse takes guests on board every evening for a convivial, gourmet dinner cruise. A menu devised by Chef Martial, ‘Meilleur Ouvrier de France’, and comfortable seating on a panoramic boat with an open deck. The two hour cruise runs from one end of Paris to the other for an unforgettable evening. You can also customize parts of the cruise to suit you: position of tables, a birthday cake, champagne or a bottle of vintage wine, a bouquet of roses, etc. Plus, if passengers haven’t finished their bottle of wine, they can take it away with them to enjoy later! Yachts de Paris offers a dinner cruise that is chic, refined and gastronomic. Developed by Guy Krenzer, twice crowned Meilleur Ouvrier de France, and accompanied by wines selected by Olivier Poussier, winner of the World’s Best Sommelier competition, the menu aboard the Don Juan II is undoubtedly one of the best on offer on the Seine. Along the water, in an elegant atmosphere with discrete musical entertainment, guests can take advantage of the yacht’s deck to discover Paris at nightfall, magical! > BATEAUX-MOUCHES® Port de la Conférence, Paris 8th Tel +33 (0) 1 42 25 96 10 www.bateaux-mouches.fr > BATEAUX PARISIENS Port de la Bourdonnais, Paris 7th Tel +33 (0) 1 46 99 35 84 www.bateauxparisiens.com > CAPITAINE FRACASSE Île aux Cygnes, Paris 15th Tel +33 (0) 8 26 10 48 15 www.lecapitainefracasse.com > MARINA DE PARIS Quai Anatole France, Paris 7th Tel +33 (0) 1 43 43 40 30 www.marina-de-paris.com > PARIS EN SCÈNE Quai des Orfèvres, Paris 1st Tel +33 (0) 1 41 41 90 70 www.paris-en-scene.com > YACHTS DE PARIS Port Henri IV, Paris 4th Tel +33 (0) 1 44 54 14 70 www.yachtsdeparis.fr Paris in a bottle The most magnificent monuments along the Seine are even more enjoyable with a glass of champagne in hand or with an introduction to oenology. The Vedettes de Paris and Ô Chateau have teamed up to provide hour-long tasting sessions, in French and English, of a selection of three champagnes: dry, medium-dry, and rosé. It’s in the company of an experienced sommelier, in the privatized panoramic lounge, that visitors can admire Paris from the bay window or front deck, reserved for them at nightfall. Tasting also takes place on board a privatized yacht during a cruise with Yachts de Paris: during a buffet-dinner designed by Lenôtre, an oenology expert presents prestigious wines for wine-lovers and gourmets. Cruises by the Compagnie Joce provide an enchanting evening on the Seine, with shows on various themes. Aboard, passengers can enjoy a gourmet or themed dinner devised by chef Stéphane Augé, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, and see or even take part in a show: ‘Paris Caraïbes’ offers a Creole dinner and Caribbean show followed by an evening of dancing. Paris Cancan, the first floating cabaret in Paris, brings back the atmosphere of 20th century cabarets. A candlelit dinner, with French Cancan of course, but also java and frous-frous dancing until midnight. ‘Paris en chanson’ is typically French and combines a traditional menu of French and international songs with lunch or dinner; the public is invited to join in the singing and dancing! Finally, a DJ keeps the party going after the return to the quay. > 18th 17th On the19th Seine by day… and night 18th 17th 19th 10th 9th A unique 8th 7th 6th h h COMPAGNIE JOCE Port de la Rapée, Paris 12th Tel +33 (0) 1 55 26 80 80 www.cofrase-croisiere.com 14th > experience in Paris is to spend an evening aboard9tha yacht … and stay overnight on board!
