All classrooms and science classrooms will be modernized, in addition to upgrades to the auditorium, kitchen/cafeteria, locker rooms, art, music and performing art spaces. The Allentown School District acquired three adjacent parcels to accommodate construction of the new facility. Designed by Roberson Butz Architects, it will accommodate 750 students and is organized into three distinct masses. Each mass is composed of multiple “learning communities” for each grade level. Exterior materials include brick, concrete block, aluminum curtainwall and storefront systems, and glazed brick accents. The new Jackson Elementary School will be LEED-certified through the U.S. Green Building Council. The project will have sustainable features such as green roofs, reduction of existing impervious areas, native plantings, exterior sunshades, energy efficient mechanical and lighting systems, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, recycled/regional materials, abundant day lighting and curriculum enrichment opportunities for students. The new addition will provide new classrooms, gymnasium and kitchen/cafeteria spaces, increasing the overall capacity of the school from 500 to 750 students. A new three-story ninth grade academy and basement faculty parking garage will be constructed. Upon completion the academy will have silver LEED certification. The academy will feature 84,476 SF of classroom and administration space, 28 classrooms, a two-story cafeteria, a media center, a bridge to the main campus and a green roof. The existing campus buildings will be air-conditioned, in addition to receiving ADA, lighting, power, data and security upgrades. Over 100 classrooms will be modernized, in addition to auditorium, gymnasium, natatorium, kitchen/cafeteria, locker rooms, art, music and performing arts spaces.
