WILDSIDE walks, activities and events IN CALDERDALE April 2016 march 2017 Jerusalem Farm Campsite Jerusalem Farm is situated between Halifax and Hebden Bridge in the heart of the picturesque Luddenden Valley in rural Calderdale. The campsite is on a flat grassy area adjacent to Luddenden Brook and Wade Wood, which is designated as a Local Nature Reserve due to it being a good example of mixed deciduous woodland. The site offers campers all the basic facilities one would expect on a campsite without being commercialised and has an added bonus in that the site is not accessible to cars (the car parking area is a couple of minutes walk from the camping area) which helps create a feeling of peace and tranquillity on the site. Jerusalem Farm is ideal for people who wish to escape from the pressures of everyday life and offers visitors the opportunity to get back to nature in an idyllic setting. Site open: Friday 1st April - Sunday 2nd October P Jerusalem Farm Don’t overshootOnly 20 yards Points to note: No under 18’s unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Group is run by a small committee and holds an Annual General Meeting in December each year to which all volunteers are invited. The Friends Group was set up by volunteers and staff of Calderdale Countryside Service, helped with funding from BTCV (now TCV) and the Bearder Trust. One of the main aims of the Friends is to access funding from grant making bodies to enable it to carry out projects across Calderdale and support other groups with similar aims. Since the Friends were set up a number of years ago it has been successful in obtaining funds from a range of grant making bodies. This has enabled it to do work on the permissive riverside footpath at Foster Bridge in Hebden Bridge, improve and restore disabled access paths at Cromwell Bottom Local Nature Reserve and undertake improvement work at Beechwood Park in Illingworth. It has also purchased hedge laying tools and equipment including a moth trap, identification leaflets, wildflowers, tepee and marquee. One of the Friends most successful initiatives has been the production of 15 different leaflets of Walks around Villages in Calderdale. These leaflets have been a great success necessitating the reprinting of the most popular ones. Following the success of those leaflets the Friends have also produced five new leaflets this year. The Walks Leaflets are available from Tourist Information Centres, local libraries and other outlets across Calderdale. We are always open to suggestions for projects to make improvements, protect, look after and enhance the beautiful countryside we have in Calderdale and would love to hear from like-minded people. Please see our website: www.friendsofcountryside.weebly.com for more information and details of how we can be contacted.
