Fulfilling the Torah in Jesus Christ
The Helsinki Consultation on Jewish Continuity in the Body of Jesus the Messiah Fulfilling the Torah in Jesus Christ Theologians from different denominations (Messianics, Catholics, Christian-Orthodox and Lutheran) gather from all corners of the world to share their convictions as Jewish disciples of Yeshua. Mariagård, Akersveien 16, Oslo June 21, 2013 to June 23, 2013 HC in Oslo – Short presentation The Helsinki Consultation is a groundbreaking collaboration which brings together respected scholars – all of them Jewish – from a wide range of Jesus-believing traditions. It includes some of the leading thinkers in the Messianic Jewish world; the Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Hebrew-speaking Catholics in Israel and several brilliant researchers from the Russian Orthodox Church and the Lutheran world. The event is co-led by a French Jewish Dominican Priest and an American Messianic Rabbi. Despite the incredible diversity of background and theological orientation, this group of Jewish believers in Jesus has forged deep friendships, and has succeeded in articulating crucial points of agreement. All are convinced that Jewish identity has a profound theological significance, and that it should continue to be expressed within the Body of Christ by Jewish believers in Jesus. This year’s conference will take place in Oslo (June 21 – 23). Its theme is: “Fulfilling the Torah in Jesus-Christ”. A direct quotation from the Gospel according to Matthew (5.29), this statement articulates the most formidable practical and theoretical challenge facing Jewish believers in Yeshua. Can one at the same time keep Torah in its concrete Jewish dimensions and be faithful to the teaching of Christ? What happens when “Church Jews” rediscover the significance of Jewish mitsvot and when Messianic Jews take Yeshua´s conflict with rabbinic traditions seriously? Whatever message arises from these cross encounters, it will shape the quest for a Jewish expression of the Christian faith during the rest of our century.
