RECYCLING IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON
Did you know that Americans produce an
extra one million tons of trash each year
between Thanksgiving and New Year? Also,
about 38,000 miles of ribbons have been
thrown out and that’s enough ribbons to tie
around the earth! So please, instead of using
wrapping paper, use clothes or newspaper.
Here is one web site where you buy giftwrappings -www.greengirlgiftwrap.com/.
This web site has many designs like blue
diamonds, red and gold stripes, purple
stripes, and wedding gift-wraps.
Many recycled Christmas trees have
turned into other useful products.
A HOLIDAY SHOW TO REMEMBER
It was a holiday extravaganza! Mrs. Laws 1st
grade, Ms. Uribe’s 2nd, and a kluster of
kinders, Ibanez, Martinez, Rhoades, Coleman,
performed in adorable costumes with great
showmanship and terrific rhythm. The
students in the audience smiled through the
whole show. The parents loved it.
Mrs. Laws, the inspiration behind this and
many other shows, will be missed. Best
wishes to her and her family as they begin
their new life in New Jersey.
You may also want to note business or economic trends, or make
predictions for your customers or clients.
If the newsletter is distributed internally, you might comment
upon new procedures or improvements to the business. Sales
figures or earnings will show how your business is growing.

Communities that have these Christmas tree
recycling programs use the mulch in parks
and the flowerbeds around trees. Wood chips
are also made from recycling Christmas
trees, which is an excellent addition to
walkways, hiking trails, and paths. For more

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I am a little teacher! Can you
believe it!? I didn’t even graduate from
college. Today, half of my class and I
went to visit Mrs. Crandall’s class to
teach them how to make a brochure.
They were really excited, especially
Mrs. Crandall. “The students were
better teachers than I am on this
because I’ve never created a brochure
on the computer before. It was a
fabulous time of rich collaboration
between students in two 5th grade
classrooms,” said Mrs. Crandall. She
was really proud of us.
The gift of knowledge is always
passing down. It’s like this: someone
teaches Mrs. Pope about how to make
by Esmeralda Urena
brochures, she teaches us, and that’s
when we teach others. Someday
maybe Mrs. Crandall’s class will
pass it down.
In Ms. Gutierrez’s class we used our
brochures to invite people to a
planet. I choose planet Jupiter. In
Mrs. Crandall’s class, the students
are going to use it for the regions of
the US.

MRS. PEARMAN’S SINGING CLASS
Mrs. Pearman’s 2nd grade class proudly led the school in song during Friday’s flag
salute on the playground. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Jiggle Bells are the
two songs they chose. The whole school sang along with them. What great voices
they have!

There were more than
300,000 people there! People came
together to have fun. It was all in
Balboa Park on Friday, December
5th and Saturday, December 6 th. It
was just like a big Christmas party
where everyone was invited for
free. Also, for those who drove you
did not have to pay for parking.
This year there was a midway at
December Nights. Do you know what a
midway is? A midway is a place with fun
activities for kids. You can come there with
your families. There will be an ice skating
rink and it is the first time they had one.
Don’t worry there will also be lots of food,
crepe suzettes and other delicious foods to
TASTE!
MOST POPULAR TOYS
Do you know what you want for
Christmas yet? Well if you don’t,
the most popular things kids want
are Ipods, laptops, and other new
stuff that is popular. That is what I
have seen so far. At Toys R’ Us the
most wanted Wii games are Mario
Kart 2 Player Bundle with Extra
Psyclone Wheel and the one I know
that my brother will like is the
Rampage Total Destruction or the
Donkey Kong Barrel blast. If you
like Star Wars there is Lego star
Wars the Complete Saga or Star
Wars Clone Wars Light Saber Duels
for Wii. Now every kid doesn’t have
a Wii and another game console is
the Nintendo DS. The DS games
like Club Penguin Elite Penguin
Force or like Guitar Hero on Tour
are great games to buy. I have been
talking about what boys want but
what do girls want for Christmas?
by Felix Escalera,
Girls would like things at Toys R’
Us like a Barbie and the Diamond
Castle Horse with Carriage & Doll
or a Barbie Entertainment Princess
Ballerinas Annika and Rosella set.
If you are a girl that likes video
games, you could get a Nintendo
DS with the game Cooking Mama
or a Playstation 2 with Strawberry
Shortcake Sweet Dreams. If you
like pets and have a Wii you can
get Paws & Claws Pet Resort for
and if you like action, you will like
Super Smash Brothers brawl. If
you just still don’t know what you
want you could go to toysrus.com
or gamestop.com and other
websites with games and things
that you would like for Christmas.
Merry Christmas and hope you
have fun!

Once I entered the Reuben H. Fleet
Science Center I saw how many
cool objects they had. When I
entered an exhibit, it was filled
with tons of ships. Star trek was
nothing that I would imagine. Star
Trek was and is the imagination
for the future. As I entered, I saw
all the exciting and interesting
weapons and outer space ship from
the show. As you can see with a lot
of imagination, the creator of Star
Trek made movie and programs
about it. I once heard that Star Trek
was once as popular as the
Simpsons is today. I had never seen
Star Trek until two weeks ago but
what I saw was amazing. I saw the
battle ship uniform actors had
worn, but my all time favorite was
a room in the battle ship where you
can see outer space.

Are you bilingual? I am and I’m
proud of it because I’m able to
understand and speak two
languages. My family needs me
to be bilingual because when
somebody who speaks English is
talking to them, they don’t have a
clue on what they are saying so I
have to translate. I’m lucky
because other people don’t have
the opportunity to speak two
languages like I do.
It ‘s a privilege to be bilingual
because when you grow up you
can have a better chance of
getting a good job and career.
Being bilingual will help me
because when I grow up I want to
be a doctor. I can help people that
don’t speak English and those
who do.

In a bilingual class you
learn the same things as you do in
an English class. The only
difference is that we learn to read
and write in Spanish.
My native language is
Spanish. So, when I first started
to learn English I almost gave up.
I remember saying, “I can’t do
it!” Nut my parents pushed me
beyond my limits and told me
that I could do it. And I did! My
family is so proud of me.
Did you know that
bilingual people means they are
worth two? So that means that I
am worth two. I wish that all of
my dreams will come true with
me being bilingual.
