design by offering a
number of design
alternatives.
Surface Mount Connectors
As more and more PC board production is moving to SMT, Kycon
is adding surface mount designs to many of its connector lines.
Connectors currently available in surface mount are USB,
modular jacks, chip carrier sockets, DC power jacks, stereo
jacks, and mini-DINs.
PC99
Kycon’s PC99 connectors meet the Design System Guidelines for
PC systems and components. The colors assigned to each
connector are defined by its function within the PC or peripheral
and help end users properly connect and configure their system.
Reflow Compatible Connectors
Although PC board production is changing to surface mount
assembly, many connectors are ill suited for adaptation to SMT
designs. Kycon has developed a line of leaded connectors
compatible with reflow soldering processes to help
simplify the assembly process on SMT boards.
Shielded Connectors
Electronics equipment designers have been concerned with
electromagnetic interference (EMI) ever since unwanted signals
were first found to interfere with electronic performance. To
prevent problems associated with EMI/RFI transmissions, Kycon
has developed a number of products with varying shield options.
Ferrite Connectors
For PC board manufacturers who require additional filtering of
EMI/RFI transmissions, but don't want to redesign their board
layout, Kycon's ferrite D-subs and Mini-DINS provide an easy,
cost effective way of reducing both radiated and conducted
interference.
USB
Available in both Type-A and Type-B variants, these connectors
are compatible with modern surface mount soldering processes.
The Type-A jack is a hybrid design that features snap-in ground
pins for better PCB retention both before and after soldering,
while the Type-B jack provides notched SMT ground tabs for a
true surface mount solution.

Technical Information:
Ferrite filters provide an easy and efficient way of reducing both radiated and conducted
interference. KYCON uses a medium permeability nickel zinc ferrite material that is most
effective at attenuating frequencies above 30MHz.

temperature. Impedance will be reduced by increased temperature (down approx. 15%
at 100°C at 25MHz) and by increased DC bias (down approx. 15% at 1 amp at 25MHz).
