NOVEMBER 2015
November 12, 2015 is Georgia Gives Day, a special 24-hour
online giving event, and GSHG is a proud participant. If you
love Girl Scouts and support our work in building girls of
courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a
better place, please donate online and SHARE our profile
with everyone you know. Let's make Thursday the biggest
day of giving in Georgia!
Also, we are so thankful for you and all of our Girl Scout families, volunteers, and
supporters, and we wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!

for troop leaders and volunteers
Invite a friend to become a Girl Scout leader! You
know the one - she's fun and passionate about
helping girls reach their potential. When you recruit
a volunteer who starts a new troop between
November 1 and December 1, 2015, you'll receive
a $50 coupon to spend at girlscoutshop.com, the
new troop leader will receive a free volunteer
resource kit, and a troop of new girls will get all the
life changing benefits of Girl Scouting! Call your
friend today to encourage her to join the Girl Scout adventure.
If you are a returning Troop Cookie Manager, please take the necessary training through
the VIP eTraining Website beginning on Nov. 20, 5:00 p.m. A recording of this webinar will
be available for reference throughout the cookie season. Additional trainings will be held on
Nov. 30 (Cookie Rookies), Dec. 7 or Dec. 12. Register now!
We are looking for moms, dads, grandparents, and responsible older girl volunteers to help
keep our camp properties functional and beautiful. We need skilled and willing workers to

us refresh our beloved camps. Contact Teresa Laird today, at 706.621.5979 to sign up for
an Adopt a Camp Team near you! Next Adopt a Camp day is at Camp Tanglewood on

experience through adventures that include some of everything Girl Scouts has to offer,
then be sure to check out the requirements and application for GSHG's All Star Award!

your area at the annual meeting of Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia on January 23, 2016 at

Are you a Georgia Girl Scout alumna between the
ages of 19 and 35? We'd like to hear from you!
Please complete this brief survey to let us know
about your Girl Scout experience and beyond. Your
input will help us understand more about how Girl
Scouting impacts the lives of our members. The
survey is completely anonymous, and no one will
be able to connect you to your answers. We're
hoping to get at least 500 responses, so please
share this link with your Facebook friends!
GSUSA has partnered with Harris Connect to

world a better place. Postcards and emails have been sent to highest-award (including
Golden Eaglet, Curved Bar, First Class, and Gold Award) recipients, asking them to call

inclusion in the directory. If you are a highest-award recipient and have not been contacted
by Harris Connect, please call 1-866-770-3079. Lines are open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to

money makers
Girls need us! Helping them develop the skills
needed to succeed is worth the effort and our
investment. Juliette's legacy calls us to give our best
to the mission. We need your help to provide the
best Girl Scout experience for every girl. Invest in
girls. Change the world.
Congratulations to Chef 'Mama' Orchid Paulmeier,
owner of One Hot Mama's in Hilton Head, SC for
becoming champion of the first Thin Mint
Throwdown, held at the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort on September 26, 2015. She and
Chef David Weikert of The Pirates' House, Savannah competed before more than 300
people during this signature event for GSHG. The evening included a performance by an
all-girl dance troupe, live auction and presentation featuring Gold Award recipients from the
area. What a great way to celebrate Girl Scouts and raise some money to support our
awesome programs for Georgia girls. Thank you to everyone who came out to support
GSHG! Can't wait 'til next year!
Aside from a monetary donation and your personal investment in Girl Scouting, there are
lots of easy and fun ways to help raise money for Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia through

Community Rewards program, your membership expired on Aug. 31, so you will

troops on the move
1.) Girl Scout Troop #40436 from Adel won 1st place for their parade float in the 34th
Annual Hahira Honey Bee Festival Parade in October. The theme of their float was
"Honoring American Legion Post #218."
2.) Girl Scout Troop #50278 participated in the Paint the Town Pink event in Phenix City
and won 2nd place for their booth at the event.
3.) Girl Scout Troop #27021 from the Greater Clarks Hill Service Area planned their very
own Girl Scout re-"dead"-ication ceremony with a zombie theme! While the girls are now
freshmen and sophomores in high school, their troop has been together since first grade.
4.) Girl Scout Troop #30261 from Richmond Hill recently volunteered at the Georgia State
Park Clean-Up Day at Fort McAllister State Park in Richmond Hill, GA.
5.) Girl Scout Troop #20158 from the Augusta area visited Washington Farms in
Watkinsville, Georgia. The girls worked together as a team to get through the corn maze
and enjoyed the activities there so much that they've decided to go back every year as a
"Back to Scouting" tradition!
6.) Girl Scout Troop #30347 from Marshes of Glynn attended the "Wizards and Wands"
event at Camp Low in Savannah where they made jewelry out of computer parts, ate
hotdogs and s'mores by the camp fire and watched a Harry Potter movie in the lodge.
(They were some tired muggles and slept the whole way home!)
7.) Girl Scout Cadette Troop #30340 from Marshes of Glynn attended an all-day
"STEMfest" at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro that featured over 70 booths with
"hands-on" activities. Girls learned about handling unknown chemicals safely at the EPA
mobile center on site.
8.) Girl Scout Troop #40445 from Valdosta created foster care bags for Raintree Village, a
local foster care home. The girls cut and hand knotted fleece blankets out of a bolt of
donated fleece fabric and bought supplies (books, stuffed animals, travel toiletries, activities
and nightlights) for 10 separate foster care bags.
Is your troop doing cool things? Take a photo and send it to tnobles@gshg.org. Please
be sure to include your troop number, where you're from and a short description of the
event in your email.
Note: Only high-resolution photos can be used. Please do not send photo collages.
