Recent Event: Thanksgiving Field Trial
Our annual Thanksgiving Field Trial was another successful event held over the long
Thanksgiving weekend. The event was previously held in South Georgia at Wrightsville, but
this time we opted for Luke Weaver’s farm in
Jackson, GA. With a much closer venue, it
was easier to attend and to manage.
A BIG thanks goes out to Trish Burdin and
Tania Campbell for excellent judging, while the
visiting judges seem to enjoy our hospitality.
Thanks to Sue Masters for a stellar job at line
marshal, and Kathy Hansen and Mary Kenney
for serving up lunches. Karen Buerki did her
normal fantastic job at event secretary—
everything ran so smoothly! And, Dan Deckert
made bird-planting look easy! Lee Allison, our
horse wrangler, also helped several folks get
started on a horse, and provided several wellbehaved horses for the gallery.
The winners included several VCMA members:

Special Brag
This brag is a special tribute to our rescue angel, Kat Harrington. Kat fostered a total of 24 dogs in 2011, and continues to
be dedicated to helping Vizslas that need rescuing.
In 2011, Kat fostered NINE Vizslas for the VCMA.
In addition, she fostered a Vizsla for the ―Show Me Vizsla Rescue‖ group as well as one for the ―Texas Vizsla Rescue‖ club.
Then, there are the other 14 dogs she fostered who were not
Vizslas. That’s one busy household!
Thank you, Kat!!

Recent Event: VCMA Hunt Test
VCMA held our annual January Hunt
Test on January 7 and 8 at Milner Bird
Dog Club grounds. We finally broke our
tradition of nasty winter weather with
temperatures in the 60’s and no oncoming snow storms to beat. There were 26
dogs on Saturday and 24 dogs on Sunday competing in the AKC test. We
also held our second annual Hunting
Dog Stake, coordinated by Dave and
Jen Anderson. Several people took
advantage of the opportunity to introduce their puppy to birds or do some
onsite training. You have the option to
choose whether guns are used or to use
an e-collar or a checkcord, as this stake
is not an AKC stake and no judges are
present.
John and Tricia Sifford once again
cooked up some great breakfasts and
lunches that made everyone smile. And
the new barn provided a comfy place to
eat, relax, and congratulate!
There were several new faces in the
junior hunter test, who got absolutely
hooked on seeing their dog perform in
the field. They vowed to be back for
more!
Thanks to all committee members and
club members who pitched in to make
this event run as smoothly as always:
Claudia Park– Chairperson, Kathy Hansen– Secretary, Dan Deckert and Rock
Kenney– Gunners, Dave & Jen Anderson– Hunting Dog Stake, Sue Masters–
Line Marshal, Kaemmerle Deckert– bird
planting, and Mary Kenney, who pitched
wherever needed! Also thanks to Walt
Sanderson for keeping the grounds in
ready condition.

Rescue Update
It has been a busy couple of months in rescue with 7 Vizslas
coming into rescue from one home in November!!!
We received a call from a woman whose husband had passed,
leaving his 9 Vizslas on property that was going into foreclosure! Not only was the number overwhelming, but not a single
one of them had been spayed or neutered!!! As usual our Rescue Angel Kat Harrington, with help from Trish James, sprang
into action taking 7 Vizslas into her home and getting them
spayed/neutered and up to date on their shots! She is PAWSOME!!!
Not only did local members offer up their homes for temporary
housing, but other Vizsla Clubs put out the word and in less than
one month each and every one of these sweet Vizslas were in
their forever homes, going to Florida, Georgia, Illinois and Virginia!! From the reports, every single one of them has adapted
well to their new homes and are doing great!!! Thanks again to
everyone who helped and offered to help!!
One of the little girls, Gracie, was not so sure about humans so
Kat has been rehabilitating her to get her prepared to go into a
new home. We think she will do best in a one dog, no children
home where she can be the top dog and learn that humans are
good and loving. The Harringtons have made great strides with
her and are sure she will make a family very happy. We are
looking for just the right family so if you know someone who may
fit the bill, have them contact us. She is going to need a lot of
patience and socialization but she is as sweet as the day is
long!!
We also have a 4 – 5 year old boy, Charlie, who is just looking
for a family he can finally call his own. He has been passed
around from family to family who were trying to help but who
were all unaware of and ill-equipped for the high energy levels
of the beloved Vizsla. Charlie has had the fortune to live on a
farm and apparently has developed quite an amazing prey
drive and may make someone a fine hunting companion. Kat
is going to pick him up and take him to the vet to get him neutered and then do an assessment on him to see if he needs to
live in the country or if he may be able to adapt to a more urban setting. His current owners say that he is the most tolerant and sweet boy, but they prefer more subdued dogs.
Charlie is listed on our website and if you know anyone who
may make him a great home who has previous Vizsla experience, have them contact VCMA Rescue!

NO-BAKE DOG TREATS
(from BARK magazine)
You can mix them in a bowl or mash in a Zip-Loc bag.
You can shape them with your hands or a cookie cutter.
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup of peanut butter
1/2 cup water (or milk)
Mix in a large bowl until smooth. (Add more water if
mixture is too crumbly) You now have a dough which
you can shape into treats:
A. Roll dough into a log shape and cut into
coin shaped slices.
B. Scoop out small ball shapes and flatten
them.
C. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness and cut with a
cookie cutter. Dip the cutter in water between
cuts.
Now store treats in the refrigerator or freezer. YUM !

The Vizsla Club of Metro Atlanta (VCMA) was formed in January 2002 by a
dedicated group of Vizsla enthusiasts. Our members are devoted to protecting
the qualities of the breed through mentoring and education. We encourage involvement by hosting a variety of events for owners to showcase and enjoy the
