The 60-credit program includes a 36-credit core that teaches a solid foundation of digital media skills including 2D digital art such as illustration, conceptual design, and 3D skills that can be used in a wide variety of entertainment industries. The Digital Media concentration is primarily focused on the use of 3D software for artistic and professional studies that relate to the video game industry as well as feature film. Students who elect to major in Digital Media are required to take 16 credit hours in the Art and Design Program. These courses are your foundation for everything that follows in the Digital Media Major. BASIC DESIGN: Learn the fundamentals of design and color theory BASIC DRAWING: Learn to see the world through the eye of an artist, not a bystander. BASIC DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: Learn the ins and outs of the Digital DSLR camera. Once you get into the 3D modeling and animation aspect of the program, everything you do will be through a virtual camera. Hold on tight because it’s going to be a fast and deeply involved course! In this course, you will begin to apply your foundations from the Art and Design core. Edit and repair archival photographs, create entirely new imagery from existing photographs, use your own camera for truly original photo manipulations; turn yourself into a cyborg sipping a strange alien drink on the rings of Saturn...Only your imagination limits you. The illustration aspect of this course will introduce you to digital drawing and painting to create one of a kind illustrations. BASIC 3D MODELING AND TEXTURING: Are you really ready for this? Ever been to boot-camp? This is our “boot-camp.” You gotta love it and you gotta want it! Welcome to the new and ever changing world of 3D modeling and texturing. This course will introduce you to a set of 3D modeling tools that, once mastered, will allow you to create anything you can imagine. BASIC 3D SCULPTING: Congratulations! You made it through boot- camp and now you’re ready for the HARD STUFF! Time to learn anatomy and form as it is seen in a three dimensional space. The skills you learn in this course are the same as those used to create high-end costumes and special effect makeup for film. Do not forget about the toys (actionfigures), yep this is how they are made! Just like clay, but none of the mess! ADVANCED PHOTO EDITING AND ILLUSTRATION: Now it is your choice to focus your skills in either Photo Editing or Illustration. Pick your focus and hold on. You’ll be working day and night developing skills as well as your ability to see the world through the eyes of an artist. ADVANCED 3D MODELING AND TEXTURING: By this point, you are no longer a newbie. It’s time to focus. You will be creating geometry through the use of traditional polygon modeling tools, or sculpting in 3D. You will also be trying your hardest to create realistic renders using both photography and hand-painted textures. CHARACTER ANIMATION: Hit the ground running with this extremely intense course focused on Character Animation. You will be working with your own models and rigs, as well as professional models and rigs. The focus of this course is to develop a strong understanding of Character Animation using 3D content creation software. All artwork © Samuel Crowe 2014
