Missouri Chamber Music Festival (MOCM), JUNE 18-22, 2014 expands season
to the Sheldon.
(St. Louis, MO, 4/15/14) The Missouri Chamber Music Festival (MOCM) presents its fourth season
of concerts in St. Louis, June 18, 19, 21, and 22, 2014. MOCM’s 2014 Season expands to include
Souvenir at the Sheldon at the Sheldon Concert Hall June 22 at 2 PM. MOCM features exciting, worldrenowned musicians from around the country and St. Louis. Single Tickets are $10 to $25, four-concert
Festival Passes are $65 and can be purchased in advance by calling 314.882.0053 starting April 18, 2014.
Single Tickets may also be purchased online at mochambermusic.org and at the door the evening of the
performance. Single ticketing outlets for Souvenir at the Sheldon (June 22) include
sheldonconcerthall.org, metrotix.com, in person at the Fox Theatre Box Office or any MetroTix location.

Augusta Read Thomas: Dream Catcher for solo violin
Prokofieff: Sonata in D Major, Op.94a for violin and piano
Augusta Read Thomas wrote her solo violin work Dream Catcher for Maria Schleuning to “celebrate
Maria’s sublime talents and musicality”. Maria Schleuning and Angie Smart, violins, join pianist Hugh
Hinton in works by Shostakovich and Prokofieff. The concert is approximately one hour with no
intermission. General admission tickets are $10.

“A Light in Sound” celebrates the art of the harp, the joy of the flute and the composers who write with
crystalline clarity. The concert is approximately one hour with no intermission. Pre-concert “Harp
Encounter” begins at 4:30 PM with Saint Louis Symphony Principal Harpist, Allegra Lilly. included in
general admission ticket of $20.

Schumann: Fairy Tales for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, Op. 132
Ravel: Mother Goose for Piano 4-Hands
Brahms: Piano Quartet No. 3, in C Minor, Op. 60.
Schumann, Ravel and Brahms connect, in musical terms, the innocence, romanticism and passion of the
Fairy Tale. This concert features musicians Scott Andrews, clarinet Maria Schleuning, violin, Kurt
Baldwin, cello, Amadi Azikiwe, viola, and Nina Ferrigno, Hugh Hinton, pianos. The concert is
approximately one hour and 30 minutes with a brief intermission. General admission tickets are $25.

Ease, graciousness and popularity characterize the compositions on MOCM’s final concert of the festival.
The acoustic gem of St. Louis, the Sheldon Concert Hall, is the perfect place to hear these Russian
masters performed dynamically by MOCM Festival artists: Helen Kim, Catherine French, violins,
Shannon Farrell Williams, Amadi Azikiwe, violas, Jennifer Lucht, Bjorn Ranheim, cellos, Nina
Ferrigno, piano. The concert is approximately one hour and 30 minutes with a brief intermission. General
admission tickets are $25.

DIRECTOR COMMENTS:
Since the successful inaugural season in 2011, MOCM has been growing and flourishing. “It's
definitely exceeded our expectations—not only the music and musicians, which have been unbelievable,
but also the way that the festival has been received in Webster Groves and across St. Louis in general,”
says Nina Ferrigno, co-director of MOCM. “This warm reception to our programming and musicians has
made it possible for us to expand our 2014 season to include a fourth concert at the Sheldon Concert
Hall.”
Co-director Scott Andrews adds, “We're doing something you can't find anywhere else in St. Louis. We're
introducing our audiences to acclaimed international musicians performing with our own locally based
classical artists in collaborative concerts that are truly unmatched in substance and quality. We continue
to focus our efforts on presenting the best musicians around in a uniquely friendly atmosphere. We are
looking forward to our first ‘coffee concert’, MOCM Morning Music, to kick off our concerts in that fun
MOCM way our audiences have grown accustomed to”.

OTHER MOCM PROGRAMS: PRO-AM
In addition to the Festival concerts, MOCM runs the ProAm Intensive for adult amateur musicians
at the Community Music School of Webster University, June 5-8. Mr. Andrews says, “We’re very
excited about this year’s ProAm workshop. It continues to grow in popularity—we’ve doubled our
enrollment and increased our staff size for the event in the course of three short years.” Ms. Ferrigno
comments, “The ProAm Intensive helps foster and expand the sense of community among lovers of
classical chamber music throughout the area, but it also builds the reputation of St. Louis as a musical
destination. We have had participants from Ohio, Minnesota, Kansas City, Chicago, Iowa City, Virginia
and North Carolina.” Mr. Andrews says, “This program has offered many rewards to all involved:
exposure to wonderful music, honing instrumental skills, and building a network of like-minded music
lovers. But with the average age of our participants being over 55, it is the sense of life-long learning that
inspires us the most!”

Council, a state agency, and individual donors. The Missouri Chamber Music Festival (MOCM) was
formed in June 2010 by Scott Andrews, principal clarinetist of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and
pianist Nina Ferrigno, to educate, cultivate, promote, foster, sponsor, develop, and encourage
understanding of and public interest in classical chamber music. MOCM brings nationally recognized
professional musicians to St. Louis, MO to perform a series of chamber music concerts in collaboration
with local artists during an annual Festival each June. Diverse programming including new and
commissioned works are a defining attribute of the Festival illuminating the fine art of the small ensemble
genre.
