Interestingly pointed out in a BNSU letter to the P.F. Commissioner, Mumbai, is that the current interest rate of 7.5% paid by the Seamen's Provident Fund office is disturbingly less by a whole 1% than the 8.5% being paid by the Employment Provident Fund scheme. The question that BNSU General Secretary Mr. Suresh Salaskar has raised is “Why hold Indian seamen be getting a raw deal from their 2 NAVIK’S WELFARE TRUST DONATES MEDICAL & MONITORY HELP TO THE NEEDY PEOPLE Provident Fund, when they are indeed working in a more rigorous oceanic environment than those ashore?” Terming this almost 12% net monetary loss on interest as “Discriminatory towards Indian seamen”, Mr. Salaskar has requested the P.F. Commissioner to take up this matter urgently and remove the said incongruity with immediate effect. The Mumbai based BNSU has been taking a keen interest in the welfare of seamen and recently also raised the issue of unscrupulous operators recruiting seamen without registering under RPS rules. (Published in Marex Bulletin) Responsibilities. To implement the said object the trust has helped Mr. Jagdish who is employee of Herald Maritime Services Pvt. Shipping however he was expired due his illness. 15 NAVIK’S WELFARE TRUST DISTRIBUTES NOTE BOOKS TO THE NEEDY STUDENTS B.N.S.U.
