- A new three-year project period
The aim of the project Tillväxt Trädgård is to provide the conditions for improved
competitiveness and growth within the horticulture sector through innovation and
collaboration.
The objective of Tillväxt Trädgård is double the value of goods and services provided
by the horticulture sector within 10 years (2008-2017) within the areas of healthy
foods, ornamental plants and high-value industrial products grown in sustainable production systems

New Tillväxt Trädgård is being organised around two programmes:
• Development of businesses and
markets
• Development of research and
training
These programmes are linked by
three priority growth areas:
• Sustainable use of natural resources.
• Market and business development.
• Quality and health value added.
Interplay between actors creates
synergies that lead to value added for
the university and society.
Within the project, SLU Alnarp
is connected through partnership
agreements with a number of organisations and companies, including
LRF, GRO, the Rural & Agricultural
Societies in Kristianstad, Malmöhus,
HIR Malmöhus, Halland, Väst- and
Östergötland, Kalmar-, Kronoberg-,
Blekinge-, HS Rådgivning Nord AB,
Lovang Lant-brukskonsult AB, Grön
Kompetens AB, Virgo Konsult AB
and Cascada AB.
Another source of funding is the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
Horticulture is one of the most
interesting sectors in Swedish rural
development in terms of its potential
to increase employment and to create
new businesses, services and products.
Therefore the horticulture sector has
the best opportunities for stimulating
strong sustainable growth in Swedish
industry

Growth fund

The Growth Fund will comprise
around SEK 6 million in the coming
three-year period. SLU/LTJ Faculty in
Alnarp, LRF and the Rural & Agricultural Societies are contributing SEK
2 million each. The other advisory
companies are contributing smaller
amounts. The money in the Growth
Fund is intended for development
projects that in the short and long term
lead to growth and new research within
the horticulture sector. Objectives:
1. All projects approved must have a
growth perspective in that the results
contribute to growth or remove obstacles to growth.
2. Project proposals must lie within the
framework of the three priority growth
areas: Sustainable use of natural resources; market and business development;
and quality and health value added.
3. Projects must contribute to knowledge-based development through
strengthening the links between
research and industry.
4. Responsibility and activities in the
projects must be distributed throughout
the country and between the partners.
5. The projects must be industry-related,
innovative and of national value
1. Application
Project applications should be made on
the forms provided on the website.
2. Who can apply?
Researchers, advisors and other employees of Tillväxt Trädgård partners are
entitled to apply for funding. Subsidiaries, members and customers of SLU,
LRF, GRO, the Rural & Agricultural
Societies and other advisory companies
are also entitled to apply.
3. Reporting
Projects must be reported, e.g. as LTJ
Faculty factsheets or reports.
The Idea and Project Workshop is a tool for the Tillväxt Trädgård
programme. It comprises seven members, who prepare and present applications ahead of decision making by the
Steering Group. The Idea and Project
Workshop has overall responsibility for
ensuring that the collaborations between partners work to provide project
deliverables in relation to the objectives
of Tillväxt Trädgård as regards quality
and efficient use of resources.
Projects may be externally funded, e.g.
with the aid of private funding, the
rural development programme, regional
development funds or internal funding
from the Growth Fund and/or Partnership Alnarp. Combined funding may
also be used.

Steering Group
The task of the Steering Group is to make
the final decisions for Tillväxt Trädgård and
to decide on the allocation of project funding
from the Growth Fund. The spokesman for the
